How to Apply for an RWTH Masters Degree Programme

Since 2000, RWTH Aachen University has been offering various Masters programmes in the engineer-
ing sector geared towards international students. The Masters programmes are taught alternatively in
German or in English. The RWTH Master's Degree is particularly popular with international students as it
is equivalent to the RWTH Diplom (German diploma at university level) and meets the requirements for
admission to doctoral studies.

The specific strength of RWTH's engineering departments is the combination of education and advanced
research. Students have numerous opportunities to pursue project and thesis work (Studienarbeiten,
Diplomarbeiten, Doktorarbeiten) in the context of ongoing research activities.
RWTHs engineering departments closely interact with national and international industries. This co-
operation helps create a strong environment for joint research on both a national and international level.
Industrial experts contribute to RWTH's engineering education by teaching special courses. In turn, the
RWTH engineering departments provide continued education and training for industrial personnel. The
study programmes have a duration of about two years.
The educational goal of the RWTH Masters programmes is to generate engineers who are willing
get involved in R&D, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
