Shatabhisha

Shatabhisha is taken as the twenty fourth nakshatra among the 27 nakshatras which
are considered important in Vedic astrology for making calculations from horoscopes.
The literal meaning of the word Shatabhisha is translated as Hundred Doctors or
Hundred Medicines and accordingly many Vedic astrologers believe that this
nakshatra is related with diseases as well as their cures and medicines. Vedic astrology
considers an empty circle as the main symbol of Shatabhisha and this symbol of empty
circle renders many characteristics to this nakshatra. Many Vedic astrologers believe
that a circle conveys the idea of containment of something as well as the idea of
limiting something within its boundaries and accordingly Shatabhisha as a nakshatra
has lot to do with containing many things in itself and limiting many outer things or
persons from reaching its innermost cores thereby providing a sense of security to the
native. An alternate name of Shatataraka is also mentioned for this nakshatra and the
word Shatataraka literally translates into Hundred Stars and some Vedic astrologers
believe that the circle symbol of Shatabhisha contains these hundred stars within itself
which shows that Shatabhisha can contain many things in itself which may not be
known to the outer world or which may not be available for the outer world as they
are protected by a circular boundary from all the sides. Thus it can be said that
Shatabhisha also possesses the characteristic of hiding things from the other people and
as a result Shatabhisha natives are considered as one of the most secretive type natives
compared to all other nakshatra type natives. Hence Shatabhisha has a lot to do with
protection, diseases and their cures, limitations, hiding and secrets which make this
nakshatra one of its own kind among all the nakshatras.
A circle also represents an idea of completion as a circle is
complete in itself and accordingly some Vedic astrologers believe that Shatabhisha
gives a sense of completion to the natives under the strong influence of this nakshatra
and such natives have good confidence in themselves and they believe that they can
take anything they have started to completion and many a times they are able to do so.
Some Vedic astrologers on the other hand believe that Shatabhisha natives are narrow
minded and cut off or aloof from the other people as a circle conveys a sense of cutting
itself off from the rest of its surroundings and accordingly it restricts sharing with the
outer world. Vedic astrology assigns Varuna the god of water as the ruling deity of this
nakshatra and the influence of Varuna relates Shatabhisha to all kinds of water bodies
present in this world and particularly to the large water bodies like oceans and in fact
some Vedic astrologers believe that the characteristics possessed by an ocean influence
this nakshatra more than anything else. For example, an ocean is known to hide
hundreds of secrets and treasures within itself and accordingly Shatabhisha is also
known to hide many secrets and many kinds of secret knowledge in itself. Oceans are
considered to contain many hidden herbs and medicines which can cure even the most
difficult to treat diseases and accordingly an ocean can be considered as a collection of
Hundreds of Doctors or Hundred of Medicines which is the main symbol used for
Shatabhisha. Like a circle, an ocean is also limited by its boundaries from all the sides
which restrict its interaction with the things lying outside its boundaries. There are
many more characteristics possessed by the Ocean which are relayed through this
nakshatra and hence Shatabhisha has a strong connection with the ocean.
Vedic astrology assigns Rahu as the planetary ruler of
Shatabhisha and the influence of Rahu enhances the hiding, curing and mysterious
aspect of this nakshatra as Rahu is known as a planet of illusions, secrets and secret
knowledge, mysteries and magical events in Vedic astrology and all of these qualities of
Rahu are exhibited through Shatabhisha. Some Vedic astrologers believe that the
characteristics of Rahu which are in tune with the characteristics of an ocean are
relayed through Shatabhisha and this fact again asserts the idea of strong relation of
ocean with this nakshatra. All parts of this nakshatra fall in the sign of Aquarius ruled
by Saturn and therefore Shatabhisha comes under the influence of Aquarius and
Saturn and the influence of these two bring characteristics like patience, organization
and practicality to this nakshatra. Shatabhisha natives are known to be the most
secretive among all the nakshatra type natives and secrecy and secrets are what form
the core of their personality and strength, most of the times. Some Vedic astrologers
believe that most of Shatabhisha natives reach success on the basis of some hidden
knowledge, secrets or something else which is hidden and not known to the world.
Shatabhisha natives are considered to be very good at keeping secrets and most of these
natives will guard theirs as well as other peoples secrets just like an ocean guards
hundreds and thousands of things which are hidden deep inside it. For this reason,
Shatabhisha natives are considered to be very trustworthy when it comes to sharing a
secret with them and most of Shatabhisha natives know so many secrets of the people
around they but they hardly let these secrets out and they look so calm after digesting
all these secrets like they do not know anything in the first place.
Shatabhisha natives have a strong urge to learn about the things,
knowledge and practices which are hidden or mysterious and accordingly many
Shatabhisha natives can be seen practicing in the fields which have something to do
with hidden and mysterious things. Shatabhisha natives are usually suspicious in
nature and they do not trust other people easily and it takes them long time to start
trusting new people. Shatabhisha has a natural tendency to guard and protect its
boundaries just like an ocean or a circle and accordingly the natives under the strong
influence of this nakshatra guard themselves against anything that is new and foreign
and due to this characteristic possessed by them, Shatabhisha natives are known to be
the ones which can take a very long time to get intimate with someone as they take
long time to accustom to new people and things and they constantly keep on doubting
other people and things until they have reached a level of very good understanding.
For these reasons, Shatabhisha natives are not known to be very social people as it is
very hard for the other people to get in their circle of trust due to the reason that such
natives are very hard to approach and many times they do not respond well to
someone who approaches them for the purpose of social bonding or friendship. It is
interesting to note that even though Rahu is known as a social planet according to
Vedic astrology, Shatabhisha tends to be not so social at the same time and therefore
Shatabhisha is very different from the other nakshatras ruled by Rahu which are
Ardra and Swati and some Vedic astrologers believe that Shatabhisha works in quite
an opposite fashion in comparison to Swati which is another nakshatra ruled by Rahu
and which is known as one of the most social nakshatras and which at the same time
does not have much to do with hiding secrets or dealing in secrets. Hence, it can be
said that a completely different side of Rahu is exhibited through Shatabhisha.
Many Shatabhisha natives like to stay alone instead of being
in company of the other people and accordingly these natives have a good tendency to
connect to the hidden and mysterious worlds though some natives can suffer from
depressions and other such problems due to their tendency to stay alone and away
from other people. Shatabhisha natives are very good at learning new languages,
hidden sciences and other practices which are considered to be mysterious and hidden
and in fact most of Shatabhisha natives love to solve the mysteries and gain mastery in
the fields which are related to the field of mysteries. Vedic astrology assigns various
professional fields to Shatabhisha and accordingly the natives under the strong
influence of this nakshatra are seen practicing as psychics, astrologers, paranormal
mediums and healers, magicians, black magicians, tantrics and other such kinds of
people practicing in similar kinds of fields, astronomers, space researchers, scientists
and analysts, astronauts and other people dealing in similar kinds of fields, ocean
explorers, treasure hunters, scuba divers, coast guards and other people practicing in
similar kinds of fields, doctors, physicians, surgeons, chemists, Ayurvedic doctors,
homeopathic doctors, and other people dealing in similar kinds of fields and many other
kinds of people dealing in many other kinds of professional fields. Natives under the
negative influence of Shatabhisha can be seen practicing as drug dealers, narcotic
smugglers, liquor smugglers, prostitution mafia and other people practicing in similar
kinds of professional fields.
Coming to some other facts associated with this nakshatra which
are considered important for making calculations like gun Milan for the purpose of
horoscope matching for marriage, Vedic astrology considers Shatabhisha as Neutral in
gender and some Vedic astrologers explain this gender classification on the basis that
Rahu, the planetary ruler of this nakshatra is considered as a neutral planet in Indian
Jyotish. Jyotish considers this nakshatra as movable in nature and active in
functioning and these two classifications are not hard to understand after looking at
the working of this nakshatra. Most astrologers assign the Varna of Shudra to this
nakshatra and this classification of Shatabhisha is again explained on the basis of its
association with Rahu. Shatabhisha is considered as Tamasic in Gun and Rakshas in
Gan and both of these classifications are again explained on the basis of its association
with Rahu as well as on the basis of the fact that most of the working of this nakshatra
has something to do with hidden knowledge and practices and Rakshasas are the one
who are supposed to be the masters of such knowledge. Vedic astrology assigns the
element of Ether to this nakshatra.
