TA Series Moulded Case Current Transformers
Introduction
The TA Series is a range of moulded
case current transformers
manufactured to IEC 60185, the
International Electrotechnical
Commission Standard which
specifies the rating and
performance requirements for CTs to
be used with electrical measuring
instruments and protective devices.
The TA Series includes CTs only for
use with electrical measuring
instruments.
Product Features
Class 3, 1 or 0.5 with 5A and 1A
secondaries as standard
Compact design having apertures
designed for standard busbars up to
4000A
Choice of bar or foot mounting
Terminal cover and all fixings
supplied with each CT as standard
User Benefits
One range of CTs allows a wide
variety of CT applications to be
achieved from one supplier
Conforms with industry standard
dimensions for copperwork,
eliminates mounting problems and
reduces the requirement for special
CTs to accommodate the primary
circuit
Adaptable and easily mounted
Full package approach simplifies
ordering process

Applications
In addition to the class accuracy,
primary and secondary ratings,
when selecting a CT the aperture
size and VA rating must also be
determined.
Aperture size
The TA series is designed with
aperture dimensions that suit the
size of busbar for given primary
currents.
Table 1 shows the copper busbar
current ratings for different sizes of
busbar according to DIN 43761.

VA rating
The VA rating of a CT must be
greater than, or equal to, the total
VA burden of all the devices being
fed and the connecting cable. In
order to select a CT with an
appropriate VA rating, refer to
Tables 2 and 3 which show typical
device and cable burdens
respectively.

How to Order a CT
We require the following information:
1. Model type: to suit busbar size
2. CT ratio
3. Class/VA: to suit the loading
conditions
eg. TA250
800/5A
Class 0.5, 10VA
To ensure that you order the correct CT, refer to the tables on pages 4, 5 and
6 giving VA ratings for each class available. Dimensions are also given to
ensure that the CT is suitable for the busbar.
