Understand These Two Concepts When It Comes to
Effectively Selling High Priced Programs!
Commodity Value Vs. Dividend Value.

Lets look first at the definition of Commodity Value. A commodity is something
that can be found just about anywhere. Items that can be purchased just about
anywhere are in great supply. These kinds of items are sold at discount stores
such as Home Depot and Wal-Mart. To leverage the power of Zipfs Law, you do
not want your product and services to be listed in the Home Depots and the Wal-
Marts of the world.

Dividend Value on the other hand is focused on creating an
asset that grows over time. This asset grows in two different
ways. The first way in which it grows is through appreciation.
In business parlance this means accelerating your cash flow by
creating higher end products and services. The second method
of developing dividend value is by means of having the asset create residuals for
you.

Dont turn your value into a commodity. Create value that sustains long term
dividends. Later on I will reveal to you nine reasons why you do not want to
compete on value.

Commodity Value Vs. Dividend ValueA Case-Study In
Numbers
Grab a calculator and I want you to see for yourself what commodity value and
dividend value look like in terms of specific numbers for you business.
Consider that you have some good copy on a homepage where you are selling a
lead product such as a DVD or a CD. Lets consider for this example that you have
1000 people driven to your site with good conversion rate to purchase your $20
DVD or CD. And lets consider that you get 5% to purchase this product.

We are also going to examine the above stats from two situations which we are
going to refer here to as Situation A and Situation B.

Lets look at the stats.

Situation A

With a 5% conversion rate from 1000 people who see your product page, 50
people purchase your $20 lead product. The numbers look like this.

Situation A:
50 people X $20 = $1000 Gross Sales

Consider now that on average there is a return rate of 20%...therefore Gross is
$800.

Note: With most programs the return rate is much higher than 20%
because of poor dividend value.

Now lets examine a conservative conversion rate into a higher program and
service, such as a $3,000 coaching program. Its typical for conversion rate to be

6% of those purchasers who bought the $20 lead product. Therefore, three (3)
people purchase your high end program and service

3 people X $3,000 = $9,000

Total Gross Sales = $9,800 ($800 + $9,000)

Situation B

Again, 50 people purchase your lead product just as in Situation A. It looks like
this.

Situation B:
50 people X $20 = $1000 Gross Sales

If focused on strong differentiation (i.e. strong dividend value) returns can be as
small as 2%-5%. In fact, I have return rates of less than 2% for my lead products.
Lets use 5% to be conservative. Therefore, the gross is $950 after 5% request
their money back. (Compare with $800 in Situation A).

Now conversion rates into a higher end program and service for a lead product
positioned with high dividend value can often be 20% or higher. Lets use 20% to
be conservative.

Therefore, 10 people from the original 1000 visitors will purchase your $3,000
coaching program.

10 people X $3,000 = $30,000

Total Gross Sales $30,950 ($950 + $30,000)

But the story doesnt end here!

Now consider the stats on using a book as a lead generator versus a CD and DVD
in Situation B. Conservatively, there is a 3X better conversion rate for a book
versus CD and DVD. Lets consider 2X for a conservative approach.
Therefore this doubles all of our above stats for B. Instead of 50 purchasers, there
are now 100 purchasers (10% conversion rate). That produces on the front end,
$1,900 in Gross Sales after a 5% return rate.

Double the number of people entering your $3,000 programs will result in
20 people X $3,000 = $60,000!

Total Revenue in this situation (Situation B with an entrepreneurially
sound book) is now $61,900!!! ($1,900 + $60,000)

To reach this in Situation A doing what 95% of typical marketers do, you would
need over 6X the number of leads to make the same dollar value.

But the story still doesnt end here

The Power of A Business Assessment Instrument

Lets look at Situation B. This person has not only written an entrepreneurially
sound book, but has created a Business Assessment Instrument to help ones
target market to self reflect on key criteria to consider before purchasing any lead
product in ones market place.

Again, conservative stats are that you will increase by 2X that people will
purchase your book. And here is a powerful concept, by setting forth the key

Once ones manuscript is accepted and finished it takes 2 years to get
published (and do you really think the material is going to be current?

An Analysis Of This Flowchart

First of all any system can be flowcharted out. What you are really doing is listing
in order the standard set of procedures. Procedures are really just a list of action
steps stated in logical sequence to accomplish a task.

Each stage (separated by arrows) in the flowchart listed above can in and of itself
be flowcharted out further. So when I analyzed the First Stage (What is a typical

everything down and do not pre-judge anything. This is the creative phase and

subconscious to begin to find relationships among your ideas. Remember, you

There are three relationships that your mind will look at when analyzing your

Think of following a recipe to bake a cake. Think in incremental steps of what is
required to accomplish this task.
