Accommodation
Accommodation is available through the Student Services Office or on the private market. The Students' Union
offers mostly non-furnished rooms in one- to four-room apartments in the halls of residence. The apartments or
rooms of the Students' Union are in close proximity to the campus. The room size ranges from 12 to 38 sq m.
Depending on size and furnishing, the rent varies between EUR 180.- and 230.- per month. You also have to pay
a deposit of EUR 153.- when you sign the lease.
The number of rooms on campus is limited. As a consequence, submitting an application for a room does not
guarantee that you will actually get one. The first applicants have the greatest chances of getting lodging, so you
should submit the application as early as possible. www.studentenwerk-magdeburg.de

About the University
The university is named after Otto von Guericke (1602-1686), the renowned son of Magdeburg, who became a
world-famous figure for his ground-breaking research on the vacuum. Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg
was founded in 1993, and is thus one of the youngest universities in Germany. It evolved from the former
Otto-von-Guericke university of Technology, the Teacher Training College and the Medical Academy. With nine
faculties, the university is gradually gaining significance as an institution of teaching and research. About 13,000
students, approx. 1,400 of them international students, are currently enrolled at the University.
With 64 courses of study, Magdeburg University provides many options for education in different subjects and
fields of specialisation. Correspondingly, there is a great variety of possible combinations among the faculties'
range of offerings. The favourable study facilities include modern laboratories and high-end computer technology.
Conditions such as an optimal ratio between teaching staff and students, a thorough technical education at a high
theoretical level, as well as proximity to practice, are advantages which make studying at the Otto-von-Guericke
University Magdeburg a most rewarding experience.
