NEXT STEPS
Humbly serving one another and our
community is one of the ways we share
the love of Jesus and illustrate our own
redemption. You have unique gifts and skills
that God wants to use, and there are lots of
opportunities to get connected with ministries
that serve the poor, our church and the City of
Orlando. To learn more, visit fpco.org/servenow.
THIS WEEK
Thank you for your donations for Strike
Hunger month in July! Together we collected
more than 500 pounds of food for our friends
at Conway Cares. With the food from this week,
Conway Cares will assemble 300 weekend
snack packs to give to hungry students in local
elementary schools. If you would like to help
sort and pack some of the food, email Jef
Revels at jrevels@orlandorep.com.
Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of
Orlando this morning! So glad youre here. We worship
together as a church family in four services on Sundays:
Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and
Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am.
If youd like to connect and learn more about this church,
one of our leaders will be available at the front of the room
after worship, or you can visit fpco.org/guest.
Women Engaged, the ministry to women at
First Pres, is excited to welcome our new
Associate Pastor of Congregational Care,
Rev. Becky Davis. Women Engaged will host a
welcome reception on Tuesday, August 12 in the
King Parlor. Join us from 7:00-8:30pm for light
refreshments, learn more about Becky, and help
make her feel welcome. WE hope to see you
there!
If you lled out a 2013-2014 Commitment Card
last fall, look for yours in the mail soon. Cards
have been sealed and kept at the church; the
contents are part of a personal commitment
between you and God.

NOTES
Proverbs 30:7-9
7
Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before
I die:
8
Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me
neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily
bread.
9
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, Who is the Lord? Or I may become poor and
steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.
G E N E S I S WOR S H I P T R A D I T I ON A L WOR S H I P
Music has always been a key part of worship. Often
there are stories of how hymns came into being, a kind
of Paul Harvey Rest of the Story. The much loved Trust
and Obey has a story behind it. The evangelist, Dwight
L. Moody, was leading a series of meetings in Brockton,
Massachusetts. In one of the meetings, a young man
was moved and stood to give his testimony, saying, I am
not quite sure-but I am going to trust, and I am going to
obey. A Presbyterian minister, Rev. J.H. Sammis, jotted
that sentence down. It stuck in his mind and he wrote a
poem. He sent the poem to Dr. Daniel Towner, so it could
be set to music. Towner, who later became the head of the
music department at the Moody Bible Institute, struggled
to nd the right tune. He eventually threw it away in the
wastebasket one night. His wife found the manuscript in
the morning, thought it had great promise, and persuaded
him to work on it some more. She was right. Trust and
Obey has become one of the best-loved hymns of all time.

*Passing of the Peace
St. Paul always greeted with the words, The peace of God be
with you. This is an appropriate way to greet fellow brothers
and sisters in Christ, and so we say, The peace of the Lord be
with you and respond, And also with you. We then pass this
greeting of peace to one another. At the passing of the peace
we should earnestly desire Gods peace upon each person we
greet.

RECYCLE YOUR BULLETIN
8:30am & 9:45am worshipers can help the church be better
stewards of our resources and environment by placing this
worship bulletin in one of our recycling stations as you leave
today.
There are two right outside the Sanctuary: one in the Grand
Hallway leading to the Edington Ministry Center, and one
across from the entrance to the Prayer Room. If youre in Lee
Fellowship Hall, look for one to the right of the exit as you
leave.
The bulletins are reused for the 11:00am worship
service, and recycled on Monday morning.
