Product description : Barrier 77 is a tw o-pack zinc rich epoxy prim er that com plies w ith the com positional

l requirem ents for SSPC Paint 20 level 2. C an also be m ade to


order w ith A STM D 520 Type II zinc dust.
Recommended use : A s a zinc rich prim er on blast cleaned steel. Barrier 77 is used in com bination w ith advanced coating system s to further im prove protection against
corrosion.

Surface preparation : A ll surfaces should be clean, dry and free from contam ination. The surface should be assessed and treated in accordance w ith ISO 8504.
Bare steel : C leanliness: Blast cleaning to m in. Sa 2 (ISO 8501-1:1988) or for m aintenance U H PW J to W J2 (N A CE N o.5/SSPC -SP 12). Roughness: using abrasives
suitable to achieve m inim um grade Fine (ISO 8503-2).leanliness: Blast-cleaning to Sa 2 (ISO -8501-1:1988). Pow er tool cleaning to m in. St 2
(ISO -8501-1:1988)m ay be acceptable, subjected to exposure conditions.
Shopprimed steel : C lean, dry and undam aged approved shopprim er.
Other surfaces: The coating m ay be used on other substrates. Please contact your local Jotun office for m ore inform ation.
Condition during application : The tem perature of the substrate should be m inim um 5 C and at least 3 C above the dew point of the air, tem perature and relative hum idity m easured
in the vicinity of the substrate. G ood ventilation is required in confined areas to ensure correct drying.
Application methods :
Spray : U se airless spray.
Brush : Recom m ended for stripe coating and sm all areas, care m ust be taken to achieve the specified dry film thickness.

Mixing ratio (by volume): 3 part C om p. A (base) to be m ixed thoroughly w ith 1 part C om p. B (curing agent) Guiding data airless spray
Mixing : 30 m in.prior to use Pressure at nozzle : 15 M Pa (150 kp/cm 2100 psi).
Pot life (23C) : 24 hours (Reduced at higher tem p.). Nozzle tip : 0.38-0.53 m m (0.015-0.021").
Thinner/Cleaner: Jotun Thinner N o. 17 Spray angle : 40-80
Filter : C heck to ensure that filters are clean
Typical paint system : Barrier 77 1 x 25-75 microns (Dry Film Thickness)
Subsequent coating(s) by choice e.g.: Epoxy, A crylic or Vinyl.
Other systems may be specified, depending on area of use.
Storage : The product m ust be stored in accordance w ith national regulations. Storage conditions are to keep the containers in a dry, cool, w ell ventilated space and aw ay
from source of heat and ignition. C ontainers m ust be kept tightly closed.
Handling :H andle w ith care. Stir w ell before use. C ontinuous stirring during application w ill prevent the heavy zinc pigm ent from settling.
Packing size : 2.7 litres C om p. A (base) and 0.9 litres C om p. B (curing agent). Packing m ay vary from country to country according to local requirem ents.
Health and safety : Please observe the precautionary notices displayed on the container. U se under w ell ventilated conditions. D o not breathe or inhale m ist. A void skin
contact. Spillage on the skin should im m ediately be rem oved w ith suitable cleanser, soap and w ater. Eyes should be w ell flushed w ith w ater and m edical attention sought
