The one whose body hue is like the colour of the rising sun, who crossed the ocean and dispelled the grief of Shri Jankiji (a title of Sita, the daughter of Janaka), whose hands are long enough to reach the knee(sign of great warriors), the one with an intimidating face, who seems the eventual destiny of kaal (time of death) itself. Tulsidasji says that by attending to the needs of Pawan Kumar (a title of Hanumanji, the son of wind), the one who defiantly torched the dense forest of Lanka which was not worth burning, who has slanting eyebrows and shatters the proud arrogance of powerful demons, the god becomes easily accessible, always staying close to be good to those who serve him. And he annihilates terrifying disasters when we sing his glories, propitiate him, meditate upon him and chant his name. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 2 nd Verse Svaran-saail-sankas koti-rabi-tarun-tej-ghan | Ur bisaal, bhujdandh chand nakh bajra bajratan || Ping nayan, bhrikutee karaal rasnaa dasnaanan | Kapis kes, karkas langoor, khal-dal bal bhaanan || Kah Tulsidas bas jaasu ur maarutsut moorti bikat | Santaap paap tehi purush panhi sapnehun nahin aavat nikat ||
The one whose physique is like SuMeru, the sacred mountain made of gold, who is eternally brilliant like crores of midday suns, is magnanimous, has extremely strong arms, is endowed with a body and nails which can be equated to the hardness of a diamond. His eyes are yellow whereas the eyebrows, tongue, teeth and face are dreadful, hair are brown in colour, the tail is unrelenting and destroys the force of the wicked.
Tulsidasji says that grief and sins do not dare to pester a person even in his dreams if the fearsome form of Hanumanji resides in his heart.
The warrior who is capable of surpassing Lord Shiva,Kartikeya, Parshuram, demons and gods in daring feats on the battlefield. Bards of the Vedas acclaim you to be a shrewd soldier who keeps his promise and is highly famed plus honoured. The tale of whose virtues were extolled by the divine Shri Raghunathji himself. Whose valiant deeds dried up the world and ocean filled with surging waves Who else can annihilate the demons' chaos except the Lord of Tulsi who is the handsome Rajput (Pawan Kumar, equipped with martial prowess)? (Nobody) Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 4th Verse Bhanuson parrhan hanuman gaye bhanu man- anumaani sisukeli kiyo pherphaar so | Paachhile pagni gam gagan magan-man, Kramko na bhram, kapi baalak-bihaar so || Kautuk biloki lokpaal hari har bidhi Lochanani chakaachaundhee chitni khabhaar so | Bal kaaidhaun beerras, dheeraj kai, sahas kai, Tulsi sareer dhare sabniko saar so ||
Hanumanji went to the Sun God to acquire education. Assuming it to be a childish prank, the God made an excuse (that I can not stand still at one place and it is impossible to study without facing each other). Walking backwards, Hanumanji delightedly circulated in the sky like a child with his face towards the sun. And with this act there was no sort of confusion in the sequence of his education. Seeing this miraculous feat, the eyes of Indra, other deities, Vishnu, Rudra and Brahma were dazzled and they stood in awe. Tulsidasji says all of them wondered at Hanumanji's body made up of the very essence of awesome power, heroic sentiment, steadfastness and courage. Shri Hanuman Bahuk; 5th Verse Bharatmein paarthke rathketu kapiraaj, Gaajyo suni kururaaj dal halbal bho | Kahayo Dron Bheesham sumeersut Mahaabeer, Beer-ras-baari-nidhi jaako bal jal bho || Baanar subhaay baalkeli bhoomi bhaanu laagi, Phalang phalaanghoonten ghaati nabhtal bho | Naai-naai maath jori-jori haath jodha johain, Hanuman dekhe jagjeevanko phal bho ||
Kapiraj (lord of the monkeys), Hanumanji, posited himself in the flag on Arjuna's chariot and roared, hearing which Duryodhana's army was terrified, in the Mahabharata. Dronacharya and Bheesham Pitamah confirmed that this is the very powerful Pawan Kumar (the son of wind god), whose strength has been the water of the heroic ocean. His instinctive jump from the earth to the sun made the vault of the sky appear less than a step away, just like child's play. All the valiant heroes bow their heads and adulate him with folded hands. Having darshan or sighting Hanumanji in this fashion they have got the fruition of living in this world. Hanuman Bahuk: verse 6 Gopad payodhi kari holika jyon layee lank, Nipat nisank parpur galbal bho | Dron-so pahaar liyo khyaal hee ukhari kar, Kanduk-jyon kapikhel bel kaaiso phal bho || Sankatsamaaj asmanjas bho Ramraaj Kaaj jug-poogniko kartal pal bho | Saahsee samatth Tulsiko naah jaaki banh, Lokpaal paalanko phir thir thal bho ||
Making the ocean seem like a cow's hoof, the one who fearlessly burnt the well-guarded city of Lanka like Holika, leading to panic in the city of the foreigners (enemies). The one who playfully uprooted the heavy mountain Dron and lifted it like a ball.Soon enough it became a plaything for amusing that Kapiraj (lord of the monkeys) like a fruit of the wood-apple tree (bel). During the reign of Lord Rama) uncertainty surfaced due to dire difficulties(Laxman shakti). The task which was to be accomplished in several eras came under their control in seconds(by his valiant deeds during that time). The Lord of Tulsi is very courageous and powerful, whose arms were used for supporting deities and were instrumental in settling them once again. Shri Hanuman Bahuk : 7 th Verse Kamathkee peethi jaake gorhnikee gaarhain maano Naapke bhaajan bhari jalnidhi-jal bho | Jaatudhaan-daavan paraavanko durge bhayo, Mahaameenbaas timi tomaniko thal bho || Kumbhkaran-Ravan-payodnaad-eendhanko Tulsi prataap jaako prabal anal bho | Bheesham kahat mere anumaan Hanuman- Saarikho trikaal na trilok mahaabal bho ||
Hollows made on the tortoise's back (Hindu mythology endorses that the earth is supported on the back of a tortoise) with Hanumanji's feet became receptacles for storing the ocean's water. While destroying evil forces that very ocean became a stronghold where the demons fled and hid. Tulsidasji says that the one whose raging valour became fire for burning the fuel of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnadh. Bheesham Pitamah affirms, In my opinion there was no one as extremely powerful as Hanumanji in all the three worlds (cosmological regions) and ages (satva, treta and dvapara.) Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 8 th Verse Doot Ramrayko, sapoot poot paunko, too Anjaneeko nandan prataap bhoori bhaanu so | Seey-soch-saman, durit-dosh-daman, Saran aaye avan, lakhanpriya praan so || Dasmukh dusah daridra daribeko bhayo, Pratak tilok aok Tulsi nidhaan so | Gyan-gunvaan balvaan sevaa saavdhaan, Saaheb sujaan ur aanu Hanuman so ||
You are the envoy of King Ramchandraji, the perfectly capable son of the Wind God, giving joy to Anjani Devi, brilliantly energetic like innumerable suns, the one who alleviates Sitaji's sorrow, the destroyer of sins and vices, protecting those who seek refuge and dear to Lakshmanji like his very life. To put an end to Tulsidasji's Ravana of unbearable wretchedness you incarnated in the three lokas (cosmological regions) as shelter. I say people! You must make a clever Lord like the knowledgeable, virtuous, mighty Hanumanji who is alert in attending to our needs (giving respite to others) dwell in your hearts. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 9th Verse Davan-duvan-dal bhuvan-bidit bal, Baid jas gaavat bibudh bandeechor ko | Paap-taap-timir tuhin-vightan-patu, Sevak-saroruh sukhad bhaanu bhorko || Lok-parlokten bisok sapne na sok, Tulsike hiye hai bharoso ek aorko | Ramko dulaaro daas baamdevko nivaas, Naam kali-kaamtaru kesri-kisorko ||
The one who is renowned the world over for his valiant deeds which destroyed the troops of demons. The Vedas sing his glories that who else except Pavan Kumar (the son of the Wind God) could release the deities from prison? You are expert in reducing the frost of dark sins and suffering, and are very much like the early morning sun in pleasing the lotus like devotee.Tulsi's heart implicitly trusts Hanumanji and he does not worry about the mundane world or the next world even in his dreams, being free from grief. The name of the son of Kesari who is the darling of Ramchandraji and the living presence of Shiva (one of the eleven Rudras) is like the kalpavriksha (one of the fabulous trees of Krishna's paradise that grants all desires) in the yuga of kali (name of the last and worst of the four ages, at the end of which the world is to be destroyed). Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 10th Verse Mahaabal-seem,mahaabheem,mahaabaanit, Mahabeer bidit barayo Raghubeerko | Kulis-kathortanu jorparai ror ran, Karuna-kalit man dhaarmik dheerko || Durjanko kaalso karaal paal sajjanko, Sumire haranhaar Tulsiki peerko | Seey-sukhdaayak dulaaro Raghunaayak ko, Sevak sahaayak hai saahsee sameerko ||
You have reached the pinnacle of valour, are intensely fearsome, very courageous and the greatly powerful renowned warrior chosen by Raghunathji. Having a body as hard as a diamond when Hanumanji makes use of his might, pandemonium breaks loose on the battlefield.Willingly he acts with loving tenderness and steadfastness at every place. For the wicked he is as terrifying as kaal ( Yama, the god of death) and is a protector of the virtuous, who alleviates the sorrow of Tulsi when we do smarana or contemplate upon him. Pavan Kumar is the giver of joy to Sitaji, the darling of Raghunathji and he is very daring (bold) in helping sevakas or devotees. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 11th Verse Rachibeko bidhi jaise, paalibeko hari, har Meech maaribeko, jyaibeko sudhaapaan bho | Dharibeko dharni, tarni tam dalibeko, Sokhibe krisaanu, poshibeko him-bhaanu bho || Khal-dukh-doshibeko, jan-paritoshibeko, Maangibo maleentaako modak sudaan bho | Aaratkee aarti nivaaribeko tihoon pur, Tulsiko saheb hatheelo Hanuman bho ||
You are like Brahma for creating the universe, Vishnu for preserving the world, Rudra (a title of Shiva) for dissolution of the world and ambrosia for conferring immortality; the earth for carrying us, the sun in getting rid of darkness, the fire for drying up, the moon and sun for nurturing us; unleashing misery on the wicked and disgracing them, satisfying sevakas or devotees and the bestower of delight for utterly destroying the dirt of demands. The svami or Lord of Tulsi, Shri Hanumanji has been true to his promise of alleviating grief of the downtrodden, in the three lokas. Hanuman Bahuk: 12th Verse Sevak syokaee jaani jaankees maanai kaani, Saanukool soolpaani navaai naath naankko | Devi dev daanav dayaavane havaai joraain haath, Baapure baraak kahaa aur raja raankko || Jaagat sovat baithe baagat binod mod, taakai jo anarth so samarth ek aankko | sab din rooro paraai pooro jahan-tahan taahi, jaake hai bharoso hiye hanuman haankko ||
Understanding the service of his devotee Hanumanji, Jankinath (a title of Rama the husband of Janki) was embarassed or highly obliged in other words, Shivji and Indra, the lord of the heavens, pay obeisance to him. Gods-goddesses and demons become the recipients of his mercy and fold their hands, then what standing do kings and the other wretchedly poor who suffer have. Which doctrine has the ability to bring harm to (Pavan Kumar's) devotee, when he is awake, sleeping, sitting, wandering, sporting or absorbed in joy? Whoever has faith in calling out to Anjani Kumar, all his days will pass in an excellent manner wherever he may be. Hanuman Bahuk: 13th Verse Saanug sagauri saanukool soolpani taahi, Lokpaal sakal lakhan ram janki | Lok parlokko bisok so tilok taahi, Tulsi tamai kahaa kaahu beer aankee || Kesrikisor bandeechorke nevaaje sab, Keerti bimal kapi karunanidhaankee | Balak-jyon paalihain kripaalu muni siddh taako, jaake hiye hulsati haank hanumanki ||
Lord Shankar, Parvatiji, their devotees, deities presiding over the lokas, Shri Ramchandraji, Janki and Lakshmanji are all pleased with the person whose heart joyfully calls out to Hanumanji. Tulsidasji says thereafter how can a grieved person long to seek the refuge of any other warrior in the three lokas or worlds? On pleasing the compassionate son of Kesri, the clear-hearted Hanumanji, all great sages have mercy on that devotee and bring him up like a child. So pure is the glory of that supremely compassionate, Kapiraj (a title of Hanumanji. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 14th Verse Karuna nidhaan, balbudhike nidhaan, mod- mahimanidhaan, gun-gyaanke nidhaan hau | Baamdev-roop, bhoop Ramke sanehee, naam lait-dait arth dharm kaam nirbaan hau || Aapne prabhav, Sitanathke subhaav seel, Lok-baid-bidhike bidush Hanuman hau | Mankee, bachankee, karamkee tihoon prakar, Tulsi tihaaro tum saheb sujaan hau ||
You are the trove of mercy, the abode of intelligence-power, the shrine of bliss, and the temple of virtues-knowledge; loved by Raja Ramchandra, you are the incarnate form of Shankarji, and by chanting your name we are granted meaning, religion, work and salvation. Oh Hanumanji! You are learned in Shri Raghunathji's virtuous nature, the world's conventional norms and rules of the Vedas because of your energy! Tulsi is your slave in all three perspectives of mind, word and action and you are the clever master. Or in other words know everything which is happening outside and within us. Hanuman Bahuk: 15th Verse Manko agam, tan sugam kiye kapees, Kaaj mahaaraajke samaaj saaj saaje hain | Dev-bandeechor ranror Kesreekisor, Jug-jug jag tere birad biraaje hain || Beer barjor, ghati jor Tulsiki aur Suni sakuchaane saadhu, khalgan gaaje hain | Bigree sanvaar Anjanikumar keeje mohin, Jaise hot aaye Hanumanke nivaaje hain |
Oh Kapiraaj! Maharaj Ramchandraji's task which was not mentally feasible for the entire armed troops, arrayed in finery, you accomplished that feat with the body and made it easily accessible. Oh KesriKishor (son of Kesri)! You are the one who freed the gods from prison, created an uproar in the battlefield, and since ages your fame is renowned the world over. Oh valiant warrior ! Why did your power reduce for Tulsi, hearing of which the ascetics are embarrassed and the wicked are rejoicing. Oh Anjani Kumar (son of Anjani)! Set right my pitiable agony in the same way as it had improved earlier when you are pleased. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 16 th Verse Savaaiya or Quatrain
Jaansiromani hau Hanuman sadaa janke man baas tihaaro | Dhaaro bigaaro main kaako kahaa kehi kaaran kheejhat haun to tihaaro || Saaheb sevak naate te haato kiyo so tahaan Tulsiko na chaaro | Dosh sunaaye tain aagehunko hoshiyaar havai hon man tau hiye haaro ||
Oh Hanumanji ! You are the paragon of knowledge and you forever dwell in the minds of sevakas or devotees. In which manner do I spoil anyone's matters. Why are you displeased when I am at your service. Oh Svami! You have dismissed me from the bond of a devotee, and Tulsi has no say in this matter. Even if the mind has lost in winning you over, tell me my fault so that I can be careful in the future.
Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 17 th Verse
Tere thape uthapaai na mahes, thapaai thirko kapi je ghar ghaale | Tere nivaaje gareebnivaaj biraajat baairinke ur saale | Sankat soch sabaai Tulsi liye naam phataai makreeke-se jaale | Boorh bhaye, bali, merihi baar, ki haari pare bahutaai natt paale ||
Oh king of the moneys! Even Lord Shankar can not ruin the person you have settled. And who can set up a household which you have doomed? Oh Lord, kind to the poor! The ones you are pleased with, dwell as pain in the hearts of enemies.
Tulsidasji affirms that by taking your name, all adversities and concerns are torn to shreds like a spider's web. Balihari ! (the affectionate one)! Have you grown old during my plight or else are you fatigued because of looking after so many poverty-stricken people? (Therefore you are lax in getting rid of my agony.) Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 18 th Verse
Sindhu tare, barhe beer dale khal, jaare hain lankse bank mavaa se | Taain ran-kehri kehrike bidle ari-kunjar chaail chavaa se || Toson samath susaaheb sei sahaai Tulsi dukh dosh davaase | Baanar baaj barhe khal-khechar, leejat kyon na lapeti lavaa-se ||
After crossing the ocean and utterly destroying huge evil demons, and burning a fearsome stronghold like Lanka.Oh the lion of battle in the jungle! The demons our enemies seemed like the adorned young of an elephant, and you vanquished them like a lion.
It is shocking that Tulsi has to bear the fire of offence and sorrow while attending to the needs of a Lord as powerful and virtuous like you. Oh hawk in the form of a monkey! Several birds of wicked men have increased in number, why don't you entangle them like a quail? Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 19 th Verse
Oh Hanumanji, the slayer of Akshay Kumar ! You created havoc and destroyed the Ashok Vatika. And did not even look at the awesome energy of a brilliant warrior like Ravana or were least bothered about him.You are a lion in the prime of his youth, in crushing the frenzy of elephants like Meghnath, Akampan and Kumbhkaran.
The valour of Lord Rama acts like fire for a stack of the opposition's straws and Pavan Kumar (title of Hanuman, son of the wind god) works like the wind. The very same son of the Wind God is going to rescue Tulsidas from sins, curses and suffering, all three of them, forever. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 20th Verse Ghanakshari (polysyllabic name of a Hindi metre) Jaanat jahaan Hanumanko nivaajyau jan, Man anumaani, bali, bol na bisaariye | Sevaa-jog Tulsi kabhoon kahaa chook paree, Saheb subhaav kapi saahibee sanbhaariye || Apraadhee jaani keejaai saasti sahas bhaanti, Modak maraai jo, taahi maahur na maariye | Saahsee sameerke dulaare Raghubeerjooke, Baanh peer Mahaabeer begi hee nivaariye ||
Oh Hanumanji ! I implore devotedly that you must not forget your promise. Consider what the world knows that the person who is a recipient of your grace is free from distress and always delighted. Oh Svami Kapiraj ! Was Tulsi worth being your sevak (attending to your needs) once ? What mistake has he made, please take control of your lordliness. If you consider me at fault make me miserable in thousands of ways, but do not kill a person by poison if he can die by giving him laddus (a sweet consisting of balls of gram flour). Oh Mahabali (a title of Hanumanji, very powerful), courageous darling of the wind, and dear to Raghunathji! Quickly get rid of the pain in my arms. Hanuman Bahuk: 21 st Verse Baalak biloki, bali baareten aapno kiyo | Deenbandhu dayaa keenheen nirupaadhi nyaariye | Raavro bharoso Tulsike, Raavroee bal, Aas raavreeyaai, daas raavro bichaariye || Barho bikraal kali, kaako na bihaal kiyo, Maathe pagu baleeko, nihaari so nivaariye | Kesreekisor, ranror, barjor beer, Bahunpeer raahumaatu jyaun pachaari maariye ||
Oh Deenbandhu (friend of the poor)!I devotedly implore that since you made this boy Tulsi your own in boyhood itself, were uniquely merciful and not illusory on seeing him. Just consider him to be your slave, having implicit trust in you, your might and relying on you.Who has not been disturbed by the extremely terrifying kali yuga or age? Be kind enough to remove the foot of this powerful force trampling my forehead as well.Oh son of Kesri, the valiant hero! Because of you pandemonium breaks loose in battle. Dash down the pain hurting my arms like the lioness who is the mother of Rahu (name of a demon supposed to seize the sun and moon in his mouth and so cause eclipses) and kill it. Shri Hanuman Bahuk : 22 nd Verse Uthape thapanthir thape uthpanhaar, Kesreekumar bal aapno sambhariye | Ramke gulaamniko kaamtaru Ramdoot, Mose deen doobareko takiyaa tihaariye || Saheb samarth toson Tulsike maathe par, Sou apraadh binu beer, baandhi maariye | Pokhree bisaal banhu, bali baarichar peer, Makree jyaun pakrikaai badan bidaariye || Vibhishan Oh KesriKumar! You are the one settling those who have been ruined (Sugreev- Vibhishan) and uprooting those who are prospering (Ravana & others), contemplate on that power of yours. Oh envoy of Rama! You are like the kalpavriksha (a tree that grants all desires) for the sevakas or devotees of Ramchandra. The wretched and weak like me totally rely on you. Oh valiant one! Even with a powerful svami like you being resplendent on Tulsi's forehead, he is bound and thrashed. I entreat that since my arms are like a huge pond and this pain is similar to an amphibious animal living in it, you catch hold of this amphibian and tear open its mouth very much like a female crocodile. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 23 rd Verse Ramko saneh, Ram saahas lakhan siya, Ramkee bhagti, soch sankat nivaariye | Mud-markat rog-baarinidhi heri haare, Jeev-jaamvantko bharoso tero bhaariye || Koodiye kripaal Tulsi suprem-pabbyaten, Suthal subel bhaalu baaithikaai bichaariye | Mahabeer bankure baraakee banhpeer kyon na, Lankinee jyon laatghaat hee marori maariye ||
By the grace of Ram-Laxman and Jankiji I have affection and religious devotion for Ramchandraji along with boldness (for firmly facing hardships), therefore get rid of my critical grief. The monkey of delight has been defeated mentally on seeing the infinite ocean of ailments, whereas the Jambvant (the king of bears who was oldest of the soldiers in Rama's army and his counsellor as well.) of living beings has implicit trust in you.Oh merciful one! Jump from the mountain of Tulsi's loving tenderness since Jambvant (of living beings) waits expectantly while sitting on the powerful mount of the heart which is the most excellent place. Oh Mahabali (most powerful), the bold warrior! Why do not you get rid of my Lankini (the principal guard of the city of Lanka guarding the gates) of painful agony by twisting it with a blow of your leg. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 24 th Verse Lok-parlokhoon tilok na bilokiyat, Tose samrath chash chaarihoon nihaariye | Karm, kaal, lokpaal, ag-jag jeevjaal, Naath haath sab nij mahimaa bichaariye || Khaas daas raavro, nivaas tero taasu ur, Tulsi so dev dukhee dekhiyat bhaariye | Baat tarumool banhusool kapikachhu-beli, Upjee sakeli kapikeli hee ukhaariye ||
When I look all around the mundane world, the next world and the three lokas (cosmological regions) I can sight no one as capable as you. Oh Nath ! Karmas (actions), kaal (time or age), lokpaals (deities presiding over regions of the universe) and the entire fixed plus moving multitude of living beings is in your hands.Consider your majestic grandeur. Oh god! Tulsi is your personal attendant, you dwell in his heart and he seems to be suffering immensely. The pain which arises from wind (as a bodily humour) is like the creeper of kevaanch (a medicinal plant). Gathering its roots which have sprouted, uproot them like an amusing sport of a monkey. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 25 th Verse Karam-karaal-kans Bhoomipaalke bharose, Bakee bakbhaginee kaahooten kahaa daraaigee| Barhee bikraal baalghaatinee na jaat kahi, Baanhubal baalak chabeele chote charaaigee|| Aaee haai banaae besh aap hee bichaari dekh, Paap jaaya sabko guneeke paale paraaigee| Pootna pisaachinee jyaaun kapikaanh Tulsikee, Baanhpeer mahaabeer, tere maare maraaigee||
Will demoness Putana, the sister of Bakasura, be scared of anyone, relying on the terrible king Kamsa of karmas? Very dangerous in killing children, whose lila or play can not be narrated, she will deceive small gullible infants. You reflect and consider. She has come in the guise a beautiful woman and in case she falls into the clutches of a virtuous person like you, everyone's sins will be annihilated. Oh Kapiraj, the most powerful one!
The pain hurting Tulsi's arms is like demoness Putana and you are very much like child Krishna. She will only die when you kill it. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 26 th Verse Bhaalkee ki kaalkee ki roshkee tridoshkee hai, Bedan bisham paap-taap chalchaanhkee | Karman kootkee ki jantramantra bootkee, Paraahi jaahi paapinee maleen manmaanhkee || Paaihhi sajaay nat kahat bajaay tohi, Baavree na hohi baani jaani kapinaanhkee | Aan Hanumaankee dohaaee balvaankee, Sapath Mahaabeerkee jo rahaai peer baanhkee ||
This excruciating pain is destiny or time, an outcome of anger that is tridosh (a triple disorder of bile, blood and phlegm) or my horrible sins, sorrow or else a mirage. The manner of killing or yantra is the fruit of a tree of mantras (incantation); Oh sinner Putana, you are evil-minded! Run away or else I openly announce that you might become insane on getting to know the wrath of Kapiraj. If the pain afflicting my arms continues, I will swear and cry for help to the greatly powerful and mighty Hanumanji (or in other words she can not stay as of now.) Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 27 th Verse Sinhika sanhaari bal, sursaa sudhaari chhal, Lankinee pachhaari maari baatika ujaaree hai | Lank parjaari makree bidaari baarbaar, Jaatudhaan dhaari dhooridhaanee kari daaree haai || Tori jamkaatari Madodri karhori aanee, Ravankee raanee Meghnad Manhtaaree haai || Bheer baanhpeerkee nipat raakhee Mahaabeer, Kaaunke sakoch Tulsike soch bhaaree haai ||
Slaughtering the power of Sinhika (The female rakshasa, Sinhika, rises up out of the waters and swallows Hanuman as he nears Lanka. Inside the demoness, Hanuman crushes her heart and escapes through her ear.), reforming the deceit of Sursa (the demoness who blocked the sea to Lanka,Becoming very small, Hanumanji went in through her ear and came out of her mouth thus fulfilling the boon that everyone who ventured here must pass through her mouth), killing Lankini (a demoness guarding Lanka) and ravaging the Ashok Vatika (a garden in Lanka where Sita was held captive by Ravana). Burning the city of Lanka to ashes, you repeatedly annihilated the troops of demons, shredding them apart like a female crocodile. Tearing Yamraj's sword or in other words exposing him, you brought out the mother of Meghnad and Ravana's patrani, Mandodri, from the royal palace.Oh the greatly powerful Kapiraj! Tulsi is very concerned since you have abandoned the fear of his arms' pain intimidated by someone. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 28 th Verse Tero baalkeli beer suni sahmat dheer, Bhoolat sareersudhi sakra-rabi-rahukee || Teree baanh basat bisok lokpaal sab, Tero naam lait rahaai aarti na kaahukee || Saam daan bhed bidhi baidhoo labed sidhi, Haath kapinathheeke chotee chor saahukee| Aalas anakh parihaaskaai sikhaavan haai, Aite din rahee peer Tulsike baahukee ||
Oh brave one! Hearing the play of your boyhood, the courageous are also terrified, while Indra, the sun and Rahu lose consciousness of their body. With the might of your arms all lokpaals (deities presiding over the universe) settle down without any grief and by taking your name everybody is free of sorrow. Superior to what is ordained by incantation, bribery, threat and guile (the traditional means of a king to attain his purposes) and even by study of the Vedas, is that thieves and businessmen are mere puppets in the hands of Kapinath (a title of Hanuman). Is the painful agony hurting Tulsidasji's arms for the past so many days due to your laziness or fury, ridicule or teaching. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 29 th Verse Tookniko ghar-ghar dolat kangaal boli, Baal jyon kripaal natpaal paali poso haai | Keenhee haai sanbhaar saar Anjaneekumar beer, Aapno bisaarihaain na merehoo bharoso haai || Itno parekho sab bhaanti samrath aaju, Kapiraaj saanchee kahaaun ko Tilok toso haai | Saasti sahat daas keeje pekhi parihaas, Cheereeko maran khel baalkaniko so haai ||
Oh Kripanidhaan (store of grace) who looks after the poor! Stricken by poverty I wander from house to house for scraps of food. Beckoning me, you have brought me up like a child. Oh brave Anjani Kumar! Primarily you have protected me, and I have absolute faith that you will not forget your devotee. Oh Kapiraj! (Lord of the monkeys). You are competent in every fashion as of today. I am telling the truth, who can be equated to you in the three lokas (cosmological regions)? But I am regret that this sevaka (devotee) is bearing such misery. The bird is dying like a child's prank and you are watching the spectacle. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 30 th Verse Aapne hee paaptein tritaapatein ki saaptein, Barree haai baanhbedan kahee na sahi jaati haai | Aaushadh anek jantra-mantra-totkaadi kiye, Baadi bhaye devtaa manaaye adhikaati haai || Kartaar, bhartaar, hartaar, karm, kaal, Ko haai jagjaal jo na maanat itaati haai | Chero tero Tulsee too mero kahyo Ramdoot, Dheel teree beer mohi peertein piraati haai || The pain in my arms has escalated due to my own sins, the three fevers and curses. Neither does it leave me nor is it bearable. Several medicines, charms-incantations- magical practices were resorted to, deities were propitiated but everything was in vain. The ache continues to increase.
Who amongst Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, karmas or actions, kaal or ages and the illusionary entanglement of this world, not abide by your order. Oh Ramdoot! (envoy of Rama) Tulsi is your attendant and you have stated that he is your sevaka. Oh valiant hero! Your laxity in this matter is hurting me more than the pain. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 31 st Verse Doot Ramrayako, sapoot poot baayko, Samathh haath paayko sahaay asahaayko | Baankee biradaavlee bidit baid gaiyat, Raavan so bhat bhayo muthikaake ghaayako || Aite barhe saaheb samarthko nivaajo aaj, Seedat susevak bachan man kaayako | Thoree baanhpeerkee barhi galaani Tulsiko, Kaun paap kop, lop pragat prabhaayako || Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 31 st Verse
You are the emissary of King Ramchandra, the virtuous son of the Wind God, physically competent and the supporter of those seeking refuge. The tale of your splendid fame is renowned, the Vedas sing of your glory and a warrior like Ravana who is triumphant in the three worlds was wounded by your blow.
Even with such a greatly competent svami like you showering his grace, your most excellent sevaka (who attends to your needs) is grieved mentally, physically and by speech. Tulsi is very depressed about this slight pain of the arms.Your visible effect has vanished due to which sin of mine or anger.
Gods and goddesses, demons, humans, sages, accomplished siddhas and snakes; big plus small rooted plus living beings, along with demoness Pootna, the devious rakshasas and rakshasis, all of them implicitly obey the command of Pavan Kumar (Hanumanji), an envoy of Rama.
Horrifying magic, deceit, fraud and the onslaught of wretched diseases leave their stand on listening to Hanumanji's appeal. Be furious on my evil deeds, give advise to Tulsi, and rectify the vices which give us sorrow, Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 33 rd Verse Tere bal baanar jitaaye ran Raavanson, Tere ghaale jaatudhaan bhaye ghar-gharke | Tere bal Raamraj kiye sab surkaaj, Sakal samaaj saaj saaje Raghubarke || Tero gungaan suni geerbaan pulkat, Sajal bilochan biranchi Hari harke | Tulsike maathepar haath phero keesnaath, Dekhiye na daas dukhee tose kanigarke || Your might made the monkeys triump over the demons and these evil forces were dispelled from every home because you ruined them.
Relying on your valour, king Ramchandraji fulfilled the complete task of the gods, and you were the one who decorated the array of Raghunathji's social order. The deities are ecstatic on hearing your glories being sung, while Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh turn teary-eyed with emotion. Oh the svami of vanaras or monkeys! Caress Tulsi's forehead. Your slaves are never seen to be suffering since you know how to protect the honour of your dignity. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 34 th Verse Paalo tere tookko parehoo chook mookiye na, Koor kaaurhee dooko haaun aapnee aur heriye | Bhoraanaath bhorehee sarosh hot thore dosh, Poshi toshi thaapi aapno na avderiye || Anbu too haaun Ambuchar, amb too haaun dimbh, so na, Boojhiye bilamb avlamb mere teriye | Baalak bikal jaani paahi prem pahichaani, Tulseekee baanh par laameeloom pheriye || I have been brought up on your leftovers, do not become silent on my making a mistake. I am a worthless adopter of the wrong course, but you must have a look at yourself.
Oh Bholenath! (a title of Shiva, the simply innocent one, Hanumanji is an incarnation of Shiva) It is due to your gullible nature that you become offended by a slight mistake. Becoming content, settle me by taking me into your shelter. Do not make me miserable by assuming that I am your sevak (attending to your needs). If you are water I am like a fish and in case you are the mother I am an infant. Do not delay since I solely rely on you for support. Protect me by knowing that your child is distressed, and by identifying love. Caress Tulsi's arm with your long tail (which will eradicate the pain.) Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 35 th Verse Gheri liyo rogni kujogni kulogni jyaaun, Baasar jalad ghan ghata dhuki dhaaee haai | Barsat baari peer jaariye javaase jas, Rosh binu dosh, dhoom-mool malinaaee haai || Karnunaanidhaan Hanumaan mahaabalvaan, Heri hansi haanki phoonki phaaujen taain udhaaee haai | Khaaye huto Tulsee kurog raadh raaksani, Kesreekisor raakhe beer bariaaee haai ||
Ailments, bad configurations (of planets) and evil people have beset me like dense gathered clouds speedily flooding the sky, during the day. Showering the water of pain and getting enraged without any offence they have singed me like the fire of jvasa (a thorny shrub used medicinally, it loses its leaves in the rainy season) of glory and made me faint. Oh Hanumanji, the trove of compassion, the extremely powerful one! Smiling, you look intently, and challenging the troops of your enemies, blow them up with your breath. Oh the valiant son of Kesri!(a lion)The heartless demon of a malicious disease has devoured Tulsi and you have protected me with your might. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 36 th Verse Raamgulaam tuhee Hanuman Gosaain susaain sadaa anukoolo | Paalyo haaun baal jyon aakhar doo Pitu maatu son mangal mod samoolo || Baanhkee bedan baanhpagaar Pukaarat aarat aanand bhoolo | ShriRaghubeer nivaariye peer Rahaaun darbaar paro lati loolo ||
Oh Goswami Hanumanji! You are the supreme master and always support the sevakas or devotees of Ramchandraji. Both the words (Ram-Naam) which are the basis of joyfulness, have brought me up like parents. Oh the one who gives refuge to the arms! Forgetting all delight due to the pain in my arms, I am calling out to you in suffering. Oh heroic one of the Raghu Dynasty! Vanquish my agony so that I can grace your royal court despite being weak and disabled. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 37 th Verse Kaalkee karaaltaa karam kathinaaee keedhaaun, Paapke prabhaavkee subhaaya baaya baavre | Bedan kubhaanti so sahee na jaati raati din, Soee baanh gahee jo gahee sameerdaavre || Laayo taru Tulsee tihaaro so nihaari baari, Seenchiye maleen bho tayo haai tihoon taavre | Bhootanikee aapnee paraayekee kripanidhaan, Jaaniyat sabheekee reeti Ram Raavre||
God knows whether it is the terrifying form of kaal (eventual fate) or the harshness of karmas or actions, the effect of sins,or the madness characteristic of nature.I am having excruciating pain day in and day out, which is unbearable. And it has gripped the same arm which Pavan Kumar (a title of Hanumanji, son of the wind god) had held. The tree of Tulsi has actually been planted by you. It has withered because of being charred by the three fevers (adhyatmika, adhidaivika, and adhibhautika). Looking intently, water it with your grace. Oh Ramchandraji, the repository of mercy! You very well know your own ways and the ways of those who have been deserted plus evil spirits. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 38 th Verse Paayanpeer petpeer baanhpeer munhpeer, Jarjar sakal sareer peermaee haai | Dev bhoot pitar karam khal kaal grah, Mohipar davri damaanak see daee haai || Haaun to bin molke bikaano bali baarehee tain, Aot Ramnaamkee lalaat likhi laee haai | Kumbhajke kinkar bikal boodhe gookhurani, Haay Ramraay aisee haal kahoon bhaee haai || Ache in the feet, pain in the stomach, aching arms and a face which hurts-the entire body is writhing in pain and has become decrepit.Gods, evil spirits, paternal ancestors, karmas (actions), kaal (eventual destiny) and base planets-are touring together and firing a volley of cannons at me. I implore devotedly! Ever since boyhood I am your slave for no price in particular and I have written the name of Rama on my brow (destiny) as my patron. Alas king Ramchandraji! Has such a miserable state every arisen that a devotee of sage Agastya (greatest of the seven sages) has been drowned in anxiety? Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 39 th Verse Baahuk-subaahu neech leechar-mareech mili, Munhpeer-ketujaa kurog jaatudhaan haain| Ram naam japjaag kiyo chahon saanuraag, Kaal kaise doot bhoot kahaa mere maan haain || Sumire sahaaya RamLakhan aakhar douu, Jinke samooh saake jaagat jahaan haain| Tulsee sanbhaari Tadhka-sanhaari bhaaree bhat, Bedhe bargadse banai baanvaan haain ||
The base strength of the arms's pain, demon Marich (who had assumed the form of a golden deer and beguiled Rama) of the weak body and the Tadka(wife of the demon Sund and mother of Marich) of facial aches plus others are conspiring with evil rakshasas. I want to do the yagya of chanting the name of Ram with loving tenderness, but are these fiends, equivalent to the messenger of death, in my control?( Absolutely not.) Doing smarana or recollecting both the alphabets (Ra and M) which are being celebrated the world over, with concentration will certainly help me. Oh Tulsi! You contemplate on the great warrior who slaughtered Tadka. Making her the target of his arrow, he will pierce her (dismiss her from her stand) like a banyan tree. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 40 th Verse Baalpane soodhe man Ram sanmukh bhayo, Ramnaam leit maangi khaat tooktaak haaun | Paryo lokreetimein puneet preeti Ramraaya, Mohbas baaitho tori tarkitraak haaun || Khote-khote aachran aachrat apnaayo, Anjanikumar sodhyo Rampaani paak haaun Tulsee gosaaen bhayo bhonrhe din bhooli gayo, Taako phal paavat nidaan paripaak haaun ||
Ever since childhood I came face to face with Shri Ramchandraji directly.Chanting the name of Ram vocally, I begged for scraps of food and ate them.Thereafter absorbed in conventional norms, I broke off the pristine love I had for the feet of Shri Ramchandraji by quickly jumping into this mundane world (in youth) due to ignorance. While doing wicked deeds at that point of time, Anjani Kumar (Hanumanji) made me his own and had me reformed at the pure hands of Ramchandraji. Tulsi was acclaimed as a gosain and forgot about the worthless days of the past. Finally he is having to face the consequences of those evil acts in abundance as of today.
Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 41 st Verse Asan-basan-heen visham-vishaad-leen, Dekhi deen doobro karaai na haay-haay ko | Tulsee anaathso sanaath Raghunaath kiyo, Diyo phal seelsindhu aapne subhaayko || Neech yahi beech pati paai bharuhaaigo, Bihaai prabhu-bhajan bachan man kaayko | Taaten tanu peshiyat ghor bartor mis, Phooti-phooti niksat lon Raamraayko || Who was there who did not lament over the wretched and weak state of mine, stripped of food and clothes, and steeped in terrible dejection.
Adopting such an orphaned Tulsi, svami Raghunathji, the ocean of compassion, gave him the best reward, in accordance to his nature. Meanwhile this base person became arrogant on getting fame and abandoned singing devotional songs for Rama physically- mentally and vocally. Ramji's salt can be seen breaking out as eruptions of terrifying bartor (a pimple which is caused by breaking up of the root of a hair) on the body because I was ungrateful to him. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 42 nd Verse Jiaon jag jaankeejeevanko kahaai jan, Maribeko baaraansee baari sursariko | Tulseeke duhoon haath modak haai aise thaun, Jaake jiye muye soch karihaain na lariko | Moko jhootho saancho log Ramko kahat sab, Mere man maan haai na harko na hariko || Bhaaree peer dusah sareertain bihaal hot, Souu Raghubeer binu sakaai door kariko ||
May I live in this world termed as the slave of Ramchandraji who is the life of Janki, whereas for dying there is Kashi and banks of the divine river Ganges.Tulsi is lucky either way with laddus in both his hands. Even children will not be concerned about his life at stake.( as it hangs between life and death) All the people acclaim me as a servant of Ram in every way . My mind is also proud of the fact that apart from Ramchandraji I am neither a bhakta of Shiva or Vishnu. Distraught am I due to the excruciating pain in my body and who can get rid of it except for Raghunathji. Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 43 rd Verse Sitapati saaheb sahaay Hanuman nit, Hit updesko mahes maano gurukaai, Maanas bachan kaay saran tihaare paany Tumhare bharose sur maain na jaane surkaai || Byaadhi bhootjanit upaadhi kaahoo khalkee, Samaadhi keeje Tulseeko jaani jan phurkaai | Kapinaath Raghunaath bholaanaath Bhootnaath, Rogsindhu kyon na daariyat gaay khurkaai ||
Oh Hanumanji! Svami Sitanathji (husband of Sita) is your perpetual rescuer and Mahesh (Shiva) is your guru or spiritual guide as far as profitable advice is concerned. I have the refuge of your feet, physically, mentally and vocally. Having implicit faith in you I did not consider the gods as deities. Bearing in mind that Tulsi is your true devotee, get rid of the pain arising due to illness, maybe an evil spirit, or the conspiracy of some wicked person and calm this ache. Oh Kapinath (lord of the monkeys), Raghunath (a title of Rama), Bholanath and Bhootnath (titles of Shiva)! Who don't you transform the deep ocean of ill health into a cow's hoof? Shri Hanuman Bahuk: 44 th Verse Kahon Hanumanson sujaan Raamraayson, Kripanidhaan sankarson saavdhaan suniye | Harash vishaad raag rosh gun doshmaee, Birchee biranchi sab dekhiyat duniye | Maya jeev kaalke karamke subhaayke, Karaaiya Raam baid kahaain saanchee man guniye | Tumhaten kahaa na hoy haahaa so bujhaaiye mohi, Haaun hoon rahon maaun hee bayo so jaani luniye ||
Listen attentively to what I have to say to Hanumanji, the discerning king Rama, and Shankarji who is the trove of mercy. It has been seen that the creator has made the entire world, delightful, dejected, loving and raging, virtuous and sinful. The Vedas affirm that Ramchandraji is the preserver of the illusory world, mankind, kaal (eventual fate), karmas (actions) and temperament. Mentally I have acknowledged this fact to be the truth. I beg that you make me understand what is it that can not be done by you. Thereafter I will keep quiet on knowing that I reap what has been sown by me.
