Intro: Instructable Robot Magnet

Since 15 years I have been collecting fridge magnets from the countries where I traveled to.As a souvenir I buy a magnet related to the country. It can be a map / flag /
country picture or a tourist attraction that I have seen there.Other than these I don't collect any other type of magnets.
I have a whole lot of country magnets which my penfriends send me from different parts of the world.Unfortunately these do not go on to my fridge door.Unless I have
been to that country..The instructable robot has touched my heart and I decided to make one for my fridge door. The robot has a special place among my collection of
magnets.

Enlarge the robot picture to the size you want, and print out a copy.My robot print is 5 inches long.

Step 3: Trace to Fabric

Trace out the robot to the fabric.

Step 4: Patch work

The easy way would have been to just glue the yellow fabric over. But I wanted to do some thing creative. So I started doing patch work. This is fun and easy and I always
liked sewing.Cut the yellow fabric into small pieces.I cut them into different shapes and did the patch work according to how the pieces were.If you want, you can cut
them into exact size of your choice and place them accordingly. It took me only half an hour as I am pretty fast in hand sewing. :)

Step 5: Cut eyes & ears

Cut tiny eyes and ears out of red fabric.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Robot-on-the-Fridge/

Step 6: Give ears

I have used fabric glue to paste ears & eyes. This glue is washable in 60deg.Apply glue on to the red fabric ( ear) and insert under the yellow fabric and paste. (See
image 3)I have not sewn the yellow fabric on left side. On the right side paste over the yellow fabric.

Step 7: Attach felt

Cut a piece of fairly thick felt to the size of the robot and pin it on the wrong side.To do any embroidery stitches the fabric has to be a bit thick to protect gathers and it will
be neat and easy to sew.

Step 8: Outline
If you have applique stitch on your sewing machine use that to out line.I have used a different stitch because this is quicker. Some places I have done hand sewing.you
can view them in the next steps.

Step 9: Give Fingers & Wheels

Ah! my robot needs fingers and wheels.Hand sew with black thread.

Step 10: Antenna

I used the sewing machine to give him this pair of antenna on the ears.

Step 11: Eyes & dots

It is time to give a pair of eyes.So that the robot can see all my instructables. Paste the red fabric eyes and hand sew the the outline with black thread.Sew five black dots
on the border of the dress and both hands.

Step 12: Enlarge the chest buttons

I had time to do a little more creativeness. So here I am enlarging the chest buttons and filling with brown thread.it is easy to use two needles with different colors.Simply
fast to hand sew.Doesn't he looks nice?

Step 13: Filling wheels

Here again filling the wheels with grey thread. This is not the end of it. There is more... ...... go next step

Step 14: Glue it

How about giving a neatening on the back of the robot? Yes! this has to be done.Apply a thin coating of fabric glue and paste a piece of fabric to cover the whole mess.
Let it dry completely .

Step 15: Cut.. cut ... cut... all around

Finally .....it is time to cut.Cut away all the excess fabric around the robot. You need a good pair of scissors and a lot of patience. If you accidentally cut the black edging,no
fuss you can slowly hand sew with black thread.Watch out and be careful!!.I used the normal sewing scissors.Embroidery scissors will be great.

Step 16: Hello

Here I am ready for the magnet...............

Step 17: Hot glue

Thank you Tarun!I was really dissapointed to see that the Robot was not featured. There were some instructables which I didn't expect to get featured at
all, but it did. This was not and I wonder why? It's my own idea as in reall I am a magnet collector.Atleast this came to the finals....am happy about it.

No idea honestly, but it seems like most of us on the site in the beginning just assumed Robot was a he! I have it stuck in my head now. :P
