2. FUNCTIONAL NORMATIVE REQUIREMENTS
2.1 Operative environment
The products described in this specification are meant for a marine operative
environment and are to meet the functional requirements specified below taking
into account this intended purpose. Materials and components which are not
subject to the specific functional requirements mentioned in this document or
specified in the normative references are in any case to be supplied by the

Contractor so as to ensure optimum technical performance in the marine operative
environment.
2.2 Functional requirements
The functional requirements which the hoses are to meet are those contained in the
national and international rules in 1.2.1, 1.2.2 and 1.2.3.
In particular, the following requirements defined in the reference rules are always
to be complied with:
General requirements
- performance requirements:
pressure rating
operating pressure
flow velocity
resistance to temperature
resistance to oil products
resistance to ageing
- length and tolerances:
standard hose length
tolerances on length
tolerances on permanent and temporary elongations
- flexibility and stiffness requirements:
minimum bend radius
additional stiffenings for certain applications
- construction requirements:
construction of the hose (body layers, cover, reinforcement wire)
nipples
flanges
electrical continuity

Specific requirements for submarine hose
depth requirements
arrangement of the collars for the underwater floats, construction of the fittings
and of the underwater floats
striping of hose for the underwater installation
weight tolerances (in air and seawater)
marking.
In addition to and in order to detail the above general and specific normative
requirements, the following recommendations are to be taken into account.
Unless required otherwise, the standard diameters and lengths of the hoses stated
in the reference standards are to be considered and in particular those established in
1.2.3 d; the construction of non-standard hoses intended for special projects may
be specified separately through ad hoc requirements or Company specification.
The connection of the hose consisting of the nipple-flange assembly is to be
suitably treated so as to ensure maximum adhesion when vulcanised.
The flanges used can be ANSI B 16.5, 150 - 300 rating, either slip-on welded or
welded neck; slip-on welded flanges are advisable only for diameters of less than
twelve inches (300 mm).
Unless stated otherwise, the materials used for the construction of the nipples and
flanges are to be selected from those mentioned in the reference standard 1.2.3 d.
All flanges and nipples are to be hot galvanized.
The reinforcement of the hose, which is to be dipped in rubber, can consist of:
packs of metal cords
thicker packs of metal cords without metal spirals
two metal spirals of different sections
packs with additional reinforcement made of metal and textile cords
The reinforcement of the hose is to be smooth and capable of resisting abrasion,
ozone, oil products and seawater (chloroprene rubber). If not required otherwise,
all hoses are to have a smooth sub-surface layer in N.B.R. rubber capable of
resisting oil products.

2.3 Boundaries, limits and exclusions
2.3.1 Applicability limits
Unless specified otherwise in the contract, this specification is to be understood as
applying to products intended for AGIP offshore in Italy.
With regard to the above, the Contractor shall guarantee that the design,
construction and testing of the supplies described in this document comply with the
requirements of the normative references and also with any rules imposed by the
relevant Italian authorities. In particular, the requirements stated in article 78 of the
Italian Presidential Decree no. 886 dated 24.5.1979 relevant to underwater
production systems are to be complied with.
2.3.2 Specific requirements for assistance and installation
The Contractor is to provide all necessary assistance during the guarantee period.
Moreover, all repairs and/or replacements needed to restore the efficiency and/or
reliability lost due to material defects or to fabrication defects, ruptures and/or
failures are to be carried out in as short a time as possible. Technical assistance
during assembly, installation and operational adjustments of the products may be
required.
2.4 Ergonomics
The design and arrangement of the products described in this specification are to
satisfy the applicable ergonomic requirements and criteria mentioned in the rules
1.2.2 c.
2.5 Safety
Unless specified otherwise in the contract or in a Company ad hoc specification,
the safety requirements to be complied with for the supply of the products
described in this specification are those in the reference standards in 1.2.
2.6 One-off functional requirements
If the supply is intended for fixed offshore installations situated in international
waters, any additional requirements or compulsory technical rules other than those
mentioned in para. 1.2 are to be specified separately or through a Company ad hoc
specification.
2.7 Requirements for Quality Management and Quality Assurance
The additional requirements for Quality Management and/or Quality Assurance (if
any) are contained in the applicable management specification attached to the
request of tender.

- reference rules
- operating pressure (indicate whether it is possible to operate in depressure or
not)
- compatible fluids
- allowable velocity of the fluid
- operating temperatures (specify if t>82C or < -20C)
- utility at a different depth from the standard one (unless specified otherwise it is
assumed to be 76 m with the hose full of fluid with a specific gravity of 0.8
while immersed in seawater)
- electrical continuity or discontinuity
- construction and structural characteristics
- type of flanges to be used
- conditions for technical assistance during assembly and commissioning
