WORK EXPERIENCE

Resource Mobilization Consultant Singapore & India, 2004 onwards

 Ecosphere, India (www.spitiecosphere.com): Ecosphere is promoting eco-livelihoods in the


ecologically fragile region of Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. A high altitude desert, Spiti is a remote
mountain economy with unique assets but limited options. Ecosphere’s focus is currently on
harnessing 2 key surplus resources and developing sustainable livelihoods around them. These
are Seabuckthorn and Eco-tourism, both very niche concepts.
Key areas of consultancy to Ecosphere were institution building and business development:
• Conducted market feasibility study for launching a social enterprise to market Seabuckthorn
products & Eco-tourism services in the national and international sector.
• Developed business model, marketing strategy, production range
• Project received the World Bank India Development Marketplace Award 2007
 National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre-NVPC, Singapore (http://www.nvpc.org.sg/):
Developed publication titled ‘The State of Giving’ for NVPC. It is the first comprehensive exploration
of the philanthropic landscape of Singapore.
 Trainings:
• Conducted a specialized training on ‘Strategic Fundraising’ in March, 2005. Board members,
senior management and fundraisers of various organizations in Singapore attended it.
• Facilitated a special session for members of the Facilitators Network Singapore (FNS) on
applying the technique of ‘Ghosting’ in capacity building.
 IT4Me: Initiated and co-ordinated a collective corporate social responsibility project of Information and
Communication Technology-ICT companies in Singapore.

IFRC India Delegation New Delhi, 2002-2003


Resource Development Advisor, Organization Development Unit
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC India Delegation’s mandate is
to develop the capacities of Indian Red Cross Society-IRCS 1 as an effective and leading national
humanitarian organization.

In the organizational development process, the Resource Development Advisor’s role was to guide and
support IRCS in broadening its resource base for long-term financial sustainability. Key initiatives
undertaken were:

 Drafted a guidance document on the proposed resource mobilization process. It detailed the:
i. Policy, Procedures and Systems
ii. Three-year strategic action plan.
 Planned a national fundraising campaign scheduled to be run for one month with special activities in
three major cities of India.
 Established strategic corporate partnerships for IRCS.
 Worked towards ‘change management’. The core challenge was to enhance the staff and
organizational understanding of resource mobilization, build their belief and support for the
process.

AHAM Social Development Network New Delhi, Aug 2000- Nov 2002
Co-ordinator
AHAM was a network of professionals from different fields keen to apply their skills/knowledge to develop
innovative developmental solutions and capacity building of organizations. AHAM worked on diverse
projects with the corporate and non-profit sector including:
 Market feasibility study to gauge the potential for an international fundraising organization to initiate its
operations in India and formulate its entry strategy.
 Developed the Train the Trainer Program on understanding and applying Social Accountability 80002
standard for companies in India. It explored the social components in the Indian context, outlined
methods of workplace need assessment, corrective and preventive strategies. The project was for the
Confederation of Indian Industry-CII, Delhi.
 Conducted training for the Sahara Group of Companies on the ‘Discrimination’ component of
SA8000.
 Compiled case studies for the ‘Investing in Ourselves’ project of the Asia Pacific Philanthropy
Consortium. These were incorporated in the India publication and used in international training programs 3
for fundraising professionals in Asia.

South Asian Fundraising Group New Delhi, Feb-August 2000


Consultant
SAFRG is the South-Asian partner of Resource Alliance4, London. It focuses on broadening and
strengthening developmental oriented resource mobilization and management. The consultancy with
SAFRG incorporated:
 Compiled an information intensive reference book titled ‘A Guide to Resource Mobilization for the
Voluntary organizations in India’, June 2000.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences -TISS Mumbai, 1998-1999


Lecturer, Masters in Social Work
Since 1936, TISS has been a premier university in development studies in India. Its Masters in Social
Work program has a two-fold approach of integrating classroom learning with field-based experience. As
a faculty member focusing on the subject of economic empowerment, the work profile included:
 Mentoring and Field work supervision of eight students for their concurrent internship5.
 Teaching assignments and research.

National Institute of Small Industry Extension Training Hyderabad, 1997


Consultant
 Associated with the Small Industry Development Bank of India -SIDBI sponsored evaluation study of
the mentoring project called the ‘Escort Services Scheme’ and its impact on the women
entrepreneurs in seven districts of Andhra Pradesh.
 Identification and conceptualization of projects on micro enterprise development.

Shrujan Kutch, Gujarat, 1997


Intern
Shrujan is facilitating economic empowerment of rural women in the Kutch region through its income
generation activities. During the internship:
 Studied the enterprise – the process of formation of women’s group, training, production, quality
control, marketing, entrepreneurship development and individual (social and economic)
empowerment methods.
 Conducted a study on the quantitative and qualitative impact of Shrujan’s efforts on the beneficiaries
and the development of the region.
