Subhasitas - Introduction
Prithvyayam treeni ratnani Jalam, Annam, Shubhashitam,
Mudhai Paashankhandeshu Ratnasangnya Pradiyate.
There are three jewels in this earth. They are water, food and Subhaashita!! But
the Fools call the pieces of rocks as Jewels!
Subhashita : Sanskrit aphorisms or maxims. Subhashita : Sanskrit aphorisms or maxims.
Su in Sanskrit means good; bhashita means spoken; which together means well
spoken. Subhashitas in Sanskrit are short verses that convey thoughtful messages
or words of wisdom. It is a collection of vast experiences of people seen as pearls
of wisdom.
They are known for their inherent moral and ethical advice, instructions in worldly
wisdom and guidance in making righteous deeds.
Subhasitas - Introduction
Subhasitas are compiled as collections (Books) or used as slogans.
Many precious words from our ancient texts are used in Modern days Institutions.
May it be Technical, Financial , Defense or Educational institutions.
Knowingly or UN-knowingly we use, touch upon these gems of words in our Knowingly or UN-knowingly we use, touch upon these gems of words in our
daily life.

Hey Lakshman, Even though Lanka is full of gold (Swarna Mayi),
it doesn't give me happiness.

Meaning:
That person who is awake in those that sleeps, shaping desire after desire that,
indeed, is the pure. That is Brahman that, indeed, is called the immortal. In it all the
worlds rest and no one ever goes beyond it. This, verily, is that, hamam hamam :
desire after desire, really objects of desire. Even dream objects like objects of
walking consciousness are due to the Supreme Person. Even dream consciousness
is a proof of the existence of the self.

Meaning:Yaksha Asked: By What, King, does one become a Brahmin? Is it behavior? Or birth? Or Study? Or learning?
Yudhishthira Said: Listen, Dear Yaksha, neither birth, study nor learning make one a Brahmin.
Its behavior alone, without a doubt. ABrahmin especially should take pains to guard his behavior. The man
whose conduct does not fail is not corrupted, but one can be undone again and again in line with ones behavior.
Teachers and others who study the texts, all work hard at being stupid; its the man who performs religious rites who is
a learned authority. Even a man who knows the four Vedas is inferior to a servant if his behavior is bad.
It is the restrained man, who concentrates on the offering into the fire, who is designated a Brahmin.
