Hinduism

Hinduism means the main Religion of India which includes the worship of many gods and the
belief that after you die you return to life in a different form.
CASTE SYSTEM:
Brahma- He is the Universalspirit, he was part of Trimutri,or one supreme being in its three
manifestation as there creator.
Vishnu- the preserver
Shiva- the destroyer
Kshatriyas- which include the king warriors.
Vaisya- or laborers and farmers.
Sudra- or the slave caste.
Vedas: the book of Hinduism.
Vedas contains of 4 books this are the:
Rig Veda
Sama Veda
Yajur Veda
Atharva Veda

KARMA, REINCARNATION, AND LIBERATION:
Samsara- transmigration of the soul from one body to another.
Karma- sum of one action whether good or bad.
Atman- universal soul and how each individuals inner soul.
Artha- which includes the persuit of ones well being, weath and power.
Kama- fulfilment of the aesthetic, sensual, and sexual pleasures.
Moksha- the purification of ones soul in order to be united with Brahma.
HINDU RITUALS:
Jati- a region.
THREE TYPES OF RITUALS:
1. Yajna- involving a sacrificial fire.
2. Puja- devotional offerings such as flowers.
3. Dhyana- performing meditations.
Samskaras- sacraments, festivals, and even public baths became rituals to express their
devotion.

Buddhism
A Religion of eastern and central Asia that is based on the teaching of Gautama Buddha.

Siddhartha Gautama Buddha
The creator of Buddhism. A Hindu prince from Kapilavastu , Nepal who lived between 563 BC
and 483 BC.
King Suddhad Hana and Queen Maya
The parents of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha.
Yana ( vehicles ) the several schools of thoughts.
THE SCHOOLS OF BUDDHISM:
Mahayana
Theravada / Hinayana
Vajrayana
Zen Buddhism
1.Theravada / Hinayana is one of the earliest schools of Buddhism that developed in COMBODIA,
LAOS, MYANMAR, THAILAND, and SRI. LANKA.
Tripitaka sacred book of Buddha.
2. Mahayana Buddhism or the Greater Vehicle they believed that Buddha is a superhuman being and
his followers both in past, present, and future can save the people through their compassion. This type
of Buddhism spread in JAPAN, KOREA, TIBET, and some regions of CHINA.
Nirvana- in order to relieve suffering through his acts of compassion.
3.Vajrayana mean DIAMOND VEHICLE also called the MANTRAYANA- which they gave much impotance
to the sacred recitation or tantric Buddhism. It spread in MONGOLIA, some parts of JAPAN.
Mantra- a special bond with his disciples and spend time reciting spells
4.Zen- was developed in JAPAN which became an integral part of Japanese culture.
Satori- an individual faith that was aimed at the attainment of a state of spiritual enlightment.
