Nova is one of the highest ranking women
in the elite Global Military Police. She is
attractiv e but maintains a hard outer
shell. She is a good soldier who goes by
the book. Her devotion to ideals causes
her to betray friendships in order to
rebuild a society out of the ashes of the
RO BOTECH W ARS. Nova is envious of
Dana Sterling and considers her to be a
rival. Her jealousy stems in part f rom her
stern dissapproval of Dana's care-free
attitude and fun Ioving disposition. Nova
has the thankless job of trying to
interrogate the captu red ROBOTECH
MASTERS Bioroid, Zor Prime. This
situation proves to be the g reatest
challenge of her life,

Drawing your ROBOTECH characters in action is easy if you remember to
start by drawing The Line of Action. The Line of Action is a tem porary line
that is drawn in to plan your character and its details to accentuate this Iine.
Generally The Line of Action is best used when two or m ore characters are
interacting, or when a character is acting on or being acted on by an
inanimate object. The Line of Action then helps you to establish simple
action and reaction which strengthens the dramatic effect of any scene.

adjustments will be made since Nova
is not ip a straight up and down pose.
We will use the double diamond
method to make her body shape.-rhis
will aid in making her shoulders and
hips at the proper angle. This would
be a good time to use the Iine of action
instead of a straight centerline since
her head is tiited to the Ieft, her body
is tilted to the right, and her legs are
angled to the Ieft. Nova is 6 1/2 heads
tall with crotch at the 1/2 mark, and
breast and knees at the 1/4 mark.
W atch out for the foreshortened arm
on the left.
You've got your foundation down,

masses. Sticks become cylinders.

istline, 2 K down to the crotch, the wa
kneepads are between 3%to 4 inches,
the foot on the Ieft rests on the 5 W
inch Iine, and the toe of the right foot
touches the 5 1.4 inch mark, Now use
the double diamonds to construct the
torso and a triangle to construct the
head. Add your ball and sticks for
arms and legs.
Draw the oval of the head in the
triangle and make the sticks into
cylinders. Start blocking in the shield
which is essentially a wedge shape.

In drawing the Veritech Hovedank yo can choose to drpwthe flgure on the
right or not. He's only included to show size com parison. In this mode the
Hovertank is essentially a box shape. (That may sound pasy bqt drawing a
three dimensional box in two point perspective can sometiMesblough. We
will discuss perspective in future issues.) Establishing front ,sides, back, top
and bottom is important to drawing complex objects so it's necessal to
staq with the simple box shape.
Now start finding the sm aller shapes. Look for boxes, triangles, rectangles,
andbvals. Try to get the outlinew of the form sketched in based on the three
dimensional box.

Now start tightening up details on the Hovertank. Don't be afraid to erase
and redraw. The reason forthe tracing paperatthe end of each drawing is so
you can get as sloppy as you need in this rough version.
As soon as you feel your drawing Iooks right then trace over it for your final
version.

To draw this version of the Hovertank, start with the basics. The body is an
angled box. The legs are trlangles and the barrel is a simple rectangle.
Make sure your box is angled correctly
