Typical system
Control panel ECA 9020 in a central heating system with ECL 9550
The optimiser function supplies sufficient
heat during the selected periods.
The room temperature influences the flow
temperature.
In this example zone 1 is used for the
radiator circuit, zone 2 for the floor heating
circuit and zone 3 for the hot water circuit
The control panel 9020 time controls the ECL
weather compensator to switch between
comfort and economy periods.

The control panel is supplied with a built-in room sensor. Instructions and user guide are enclosed.

When the built-in sensor cannot be used, a separate room sensor is available. See paragraph "Mounting"
Data sheet Control panel ECA 9020
Application The control panel ECA 9020 is primary used
for optimised time and remote control of the
weather compensators ECL 3000 and ECL
9000.
The control panel has
- 4 time controlled outputs each with an
optimiser
- Room temperature control
- Boost (zone 1 only)
- Holiday program
- Monitor program.

Mounting However, a separate room sensor ESMR is
used
- when the built-in room sensor will be
influenced by sunshine, draughts etc.
- when the reference temperature is to be
measured in a room other than the one in
which ECA 9020 is installed.
The control panel ECA 9020 is designed for
wall-mounting. Instructions enclosed. ECA
9020 is best mounted where there is
sufficient light to read the display - also in the
evening.
Temperature sensors
ECA 9020 is delivered with a built-in sensor -
in most cases a separate room sensor is not
necessary.
Wiring
Cable entries
ECA 9020 has two flat cable entries in the
side and two knockouts in the base.
Room sensors
When mounting a separate room sensor
ESMR, the built-in room sensor is to be
disconnected.

ECL 3000 or ECL 9000:

Monitor program The system temperatures and reference
values can be monitored on ECA 9020.
When several weather compensators are
connected to the same BUS, each weather
compensator has its own address.
So ECA 9020 can monitor large systems as
well.
Room temperature
controlled functions
The built-in or separate room sensor in the
reference room is used for room temperature
control of heating systems to reduce energy
consumption and improve comfort. The
control panel has the following room
temperature controlled functions:
Adjustable room temperature reference
If the room temperature deviates from the
set reference value, the ECL weather
compensator will change the flow
temperature accordingly.
The relationship between the room
temperature deviation and the flow
temperature change is called amplification.
The amplification is adjustable - one value for
the max. limiting function and one value for
the min. limiting function.
The amplification set on ECA 9020
determines the extent of the flow
temperature change. The larger amplification
the larger temperature change.
Adjustable boost limit
ECA 9020 zone 1 controls the boost function
- after a period of economy temperature flow
temperature is increased to a maximum to
rapidly reach comfort temperature. When
room temperature has reached the set boost
limit, flow temperature is adapted to the
selected comfort temperature.

Operation The control panel is operated by push-
buttons. A single or a few pushes and the
following functions are set:
- temporary change of usage pattern
(for example during holidays)
- comfort and economy periods of
the 4 zones
- setting and readout of room
temperature references
- summer cut-out temperature
- optimiser setting of each zone
- time and week day setting
- holiday program
At push-botton request the display will further
show:
- outdoor and room temperature
- temperature limits
- programmed usage patterns
The control panel operation is described in
detail in the user guide.
The display is easy to read and shows
- time and week day
- status of the 4 zones
- activated boost
- limit function

The optimiser value has two digits. The first
digit indicates system type and building
construction. The second digit indicates
heating capacity (necessary heat-on period)
Optimiser value 25 is the factory value of
zone 1, 2 and 4. This value suits a standard
building construction with radiator
thermostats.
Optimiser value 00 is the factory value of
zone 3. This value suits the hot water zone.
The optimiser function automatically cal-
culates when heating is to be turned on and
off to ensure the required temperature during
the entire comfort period as well as a
minimum of energy consumption. The op-
timiser function is adapted to heating system
by keying an optimiser value into ECA 9020.
Above figure shows the relation-ship between
various optimiser values and heat-on/heat-off
periods.
The optimiser function has to suit the heating
system and the building construction to
ensure required temperature during the
entire comfort period.
