research. Dr. Lee is a respected clinical-research scientist, and is one
of a handful of orthopaedic surgeons nationally to have received R01

Orthopaedic Cancer Research
Cancers involving the bone and muscle are not common and
as a result have not drawn much public attention.
Orthopaedic (musculoskeletal) tumors account for 15% of all
pediatric cancers and can have a poor prognosis.
Metastatic bone cancers arise from breast, prostate, lung,
kidney, thyroid and melanoma cancers and can result in
severe pain and fractures.
Musculoskeletal tumors are resistant to radiation and chemo-
therapy.

Our research efforts to target cancer cells at the molecular level will
help us to achieve our goal of improved patient outcomes for children
and adults faced with musculoskeletal cancer.
