WebSphere (r) DataPower XC10 Appliance virtual image is an open virtual appliance (OVA) package that you can import into your virtualization environment. With this image, you can use the caching appliance software for creating and managing simple, session, and dynamic cache data grids. With the virtual image, the container and catalog servers are managed by the appliance.

DataPower XC10 Appliance virtual image is an open virtual
appliance (OVA) package that you can import into your virtualization environment. With this image, you can use the caching appliance software for creating and managing simple, session, and dynamic cache data grids. Before you begin v On the server where you are running the virtual image, edit the BIOS settings to enable virtualization. v Install virtualization software to which you can deploy the OVA package, such as VMWare Player or VMware ESX. v You must have WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client installed. For more information, see Installing WebSphere eXtreme Scale Client. About this task The WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance virtual image is a purpose-built appliance that is optimized for cost-efficient, rapid, drop-in caching for WebSphere applications. The administration of the WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance virtual image is simpler than the WebSphere eXtreme Scale environment. With the virtual image, the container and catalog servers are managed by the appliance. To configure an application to use the caching function in the virtual appliance, you create a data grid in the appliance user interface. Then, you use the IP address of your appliance when you connect your application to the data grid. The number of container servers that are used is determined by the amount of memory that is allocated to the virtual machine. For each 4 GB you allocate to the virtual machine, one container server is started. One catalog server is started on each virtual machine. Procedure 1. In your virtualization software, import and start the WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance virtual image OVA package. 2. Log in and accept the WebSphere eXtreme Scale license agreements. Log in to the appliance command-line interface with the user name and password: xcadmin / xcadmin. Before you proceed for the first time, you must accept the licenses. Type Accept (1), Reject (2), or StartOver (3) at each license prompt. 3. The image load process takes 5-10 minutes. The following information is displayed on the screen: 1 WebSphere DataPower XC10 2.5.0.0-a1308.19075213 eth0 addr: 192.168.56.7 eth1 Volume 1 mounted Catalog server started. Grid configuration service started. Container server 01 started. Starting administrative console. Grid administrative service started STARTED While the image is loading, you can also view the startup status of the appliance at: https://<appliance_IP_address>:9443/, where appliance_IP_address is the eth0 addr value. For example: https:// 192.168.56.7:9443/. 4. Optional: Configure network settings for your virtual appliance. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and host-only mode are enabled by default. Host-only mode restricts the guest operating system to communication with the host only. The OVA package is built with the networking interfaces set to use host-only mode. With bridged mode, the guest operating system has full network access, but an IP address must be furnished by applicable network administration tools. Network address translation (NAT) mode is typically not useful because clients that are external to the host cannot access the virtual machine. You can use the following commands to edit the Ethernet interface settings: Console> edit ethernet-interface eth0 Console ethernet-interface:eth0> ip CWZBR02205I: Entering "ip" mode Console ethernet-interface:eth0 ip> address x.x.x.x/24 Console ethernet-interface:eth0 ip> exit Console ethernet-interface:eth0> exit Console> force-recycle 5. Log in to the appliance user interface. In a web browser, go to the host name of the server or the IP address that was listed in the startup status. https://<appliance_IP_address>/, where appliance_IP_address is the eth0 addr value. For example: https://192.168.56.7/ Log in with the user name and password: xcadmin / xcadmin. 6. Optional: Turn off SSL. If you are using the virtual appliance for development, you might not need transport layer security. To disable security, click Collective > Settings. Under Transport type, click Data grid TLS disabled. Save and apply the changes. The image restarts as a result of this change. What to do next v If you plan to use more than one virtual appliance, you can connect the appliances with a collective. A collective is the equivalent of a catalog service domain in a WebSphere eXtreme Scale environment. For more information, see Configuring collectives and zones. v Configure a data grid in the virtual appliance user interface. For more information, see Configuring data grids. v Develop applications to access simple data grids. For more information, see Developing applications to access simple data grids. 2 Running the WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance virtual image
