ESTABLISHMENT
• Established in 1854AD by Lord Dalhousie.
• It is named after him.
• At the time of independence it was a part of Punjab .
• It was merged into Himachal on Ist November,1966.
• Then after Himachal Government started Developing it as a main tourist
attraction.
• Since it was surrounded by dense forests, therefore government
concentrated on eco-tourism.

 Location : Between Dhauladhar and Pirpanjal range.


 Altitude : Between 1525m and 2378m
 State : Himachal Pradesh.
 District : Chamba.
 Status : Upper Himachal
 Legislative Constituency: Earlier Banikhet now Dalhousie

How to Reach?
Dalhousie is easily accessible as the nearest Railway Station and Airport of
Pathankot is 76Kms.It is well connected to the other major cities of the
state by roads.

KALATOP WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Overview
To protect wild life a Sanctuary has been setup at Kalatop under
Indian Wild Life Protection Act, 1972
• Kalatop wildlife Sanctuary covers the Area from the Deodar forest
between the slopes of Khajjiar and Dalhousie in the state of
Himachal Pradesh.
• This is one of the well known and frequently visited wildlife
sanctuary in Himachal Pradesh.
• It is an ideal place for camping and spending the wildlife holiday.
Dian Kund Valley
Kalatop wildlife Sanctuary is spread over a Lush green area of 1962
hectares.
• It is abundant in Flora and Fauna that consists of rich vegetation of
Deodar, Blue pine and Oak.
• It is also rich in small shrubs and herbs along with other wild plants.

 12Kms long trek to Khajjiar.
 2.5Km Long trek by the stream to Ahla Water Reservoir on Bakrota
Hill.

 3Km long stretch on upper Bakrota loop and back.(Dhupgadi)

Need to Improve
• Himachal should take example from Haryana and Kerala tourism.
• We need to sell Dalhousie in an effective way as a tourist
destination.
• Chamera lake should be developed as a tourist spot.
• Web matter of Dalhousie is minimal as compared to other spots.
• Road links need to be increased in the form of Volvo Buses.
• H.P Government should concentrate on eco-tourism
Dalhousie is a beat in the Heart of
Himachal Pradesh.
