Under Fire
ENVI-Green Pacific Consultants
have refuted claims by residents and
environmental groups that Pacific
Building Solutions (PBS) was
not transparent when it sought an
environmental impact assessment on
Lot 1 Waibola, in Wailekutu, Lami.
The
Fiji
Environmental
Law
Association, residents of Waibola and
other groups have criticised the EIA
saying there was a lack of transparency
and public consultation given the
proposed size of the development
project and the conservation value of
Draunibota Bay.
Environment consultant Dr Paulo
Vanualailai, the man who conducted the
EIA, said PBS did not fully understand
the processes they had to follow when
it sought the EIA.
"I don't agree that PBS is being less
transparent. In fact, it was a confusion
of the processes to get their land
rezoned from residential to commercial
property," Dr Vanualailai said.
"The reason public awareness was
not carried out is because during the
time of assessment, from April to May
2011, detail engineering plans and
civil engineering works were not yet in
place."
Dr Vanualailai said only an artist's
impression was given in the earlier
plan, which was why he did not hold a
public consultation.
"I specifically held on to the public
awareness because of lack of
information. I didn't know that a
scheme plan was yet to be drafted,
let alone the detail civil engineering
works.
"I submitted the original EIA on the
basis that upon receiving the final plans
of the scheme plan and detail civil
engineering plan, then I shall carry out
the public awareness program."
"It was for this reason that only a
conditional approval was given for
the Waibola EIA by the director of
environment.
"That is why PBS went back to the
drawing board to correct its processes.
That is where we are right now."
PBS has refused further comments on
Waibola.

Director
Immigration
Nemani
Vuniwaqa made the comment in
response to concerns by the Fijian
community in Tonga that about 250
members were without proper travel
documents.
Mr Vuniwaqa said the Department of
Immigration Fiji was willing to send an
immigration official to Tonga.
But he added the number of Fijians
who needed assistance would have to
be established first.
"There are several ways to go about
this. One is to get a contact point and
their passport renewals is sent across to
us. Secondly, an officer can go to Tonga
and receive applications from there but
a valid contact point and numbers are
to be verified," Mr Vuniwaqa said.

Those in Fiji and Solomon Islands
wanting to fly between the two
countries are now being forced to
travel via Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu
or Australia.
George Faktaufon, secretary-general
of the Association of South Pacific
Airlines, says currently "no one is
talking".
He says the relevant government
ministries have been unable to resolve
the dispute.
"There needs to be some dialogue
between the two leaders," he told Radio
Australia's Pacific Beat program.
"The direction must come from the
top."
Mr Faktaufon says it is the first time
services between two Pacific countries
have been severed.
The main aim of the Association of
South Pacific Airlines is to improve
co-operation and transport links within
the Pacific.
But Mr Faktaufon says the Association
is powerless in the dispute.
"We have no control over the bilaterals
and we have no real control over what
the airlines do."
"The resolution rests entirely on the
airlines and the governments."

Fraser Health Stroke Patients Face Less Than Ideal Care: Report
Fraser Health hospitals are diverting
or transferring stroke patients to
Vancouver hospitals, creating less
than ideal care, according to an
external report prepared for the
provincial government.
This is despite the fact two hospitals
Royal Columbian and Surrey Memorial
are designated stroke sites and have
stroke specialists including stroke
neurologists and other experts on
staff, the review found.
Rapid care is key in the treatment of
stroke patients since a special class
of drugs called thrombolytics may be
used to break up blood clots in the
brain that cause ischemic strokes. But
they must be administered within 4
hours from the onset of symptoms to
be potentially effective.
So when every minute counts, those
in the Fraser Health region who are
transported to Vancouver hospitals
instead of their nearest local facility
face critical time delays, the Fraser
Health Review report states.
A Fraser Health medical director
downplayed the criticisms in the
report on Tuesday, saying steps
have been taken to address many of
the concerns since the review was
conducted, although he acknowledged
some patients are still transferred to
Vancouver.
I cant change whats written there ...
and its not a question of disputing it,
said Dr. Dave Williams, Fraser Healths
program medical director of medicine.
But we do use thrombolytics and
patients are receiving the best stroke
care, whether they go to Royal
Columbian or Surrey.
The Fraser Health Review, ordered
by Health Minister Terry Lake last
year, was released earlier this month.
It flagged numerous areas of concern
in the region, including adverse events
suffered by patients in hospital and an
over-reliance on acute care hospital
beds. When it was released, Lake
announced an injection of $60 million
more over the next two years, on top of
the $3.1 billion Fraser Health already

he said.
The anti-gang unit launched its
investigation in early July and
arrested the men last week. A search
at a Langley apartment building turned
up large quantities of drugs. Sgt.
Houghton said police seized $150,000
worth of cocaine, $100,000 of
methamphetamine, $55,000 of heroin
and $80,000 of a cocaine cutting agent.
He said the cutting agent was a

was once a pain reliever but was found
to be unhealthy for humans. He said

Prostate Cancer
pressure on the spinal cord and prevent
numbness of the legs or paralysis.
Prognosis and survival for prostate
cancer
Men with prostate cancer may have
questions about their prognosis and
survival. Prognosis and survival
depend on many factors. Only a doctor
familiar with a person's medical history,
type of cancer, stage, characteristics
of the cancer, treatments chosen and
response to treatment can put all of
this information together with survival
statistics to arrive at a prognosis.
A prognosis is the doctor's best estimate
of how cancer will affect a person,
and how it will respond to treatment.
A prognostic factor is an aspect of the
cancer or a characteristic of the person
that the doctor will consider when
making a prognosis. A predictive factor
influences how a cancer will respond
to a certain treatment. Prognostic and
predictive factors are often discussed
together, and they both play a part in
deciding on a treatment plan and a
prognosis.
More than 95% of prostate cancers
are adenocarcinomas. The majority
are slow growing and respond well to
treatment. Rare types of prostate cancer
include sarcomas, small cell carcinomas
and transitional cell carcinomas. These
make up less than 5% of all prostate
cancers, and their prognosis is different.
The following are prognostic factors
for adenocarcinoma of the prostate:
Stage
Stage is an important prognostic factor
for prostate cancer. The less advanced
a prostate cancer is at diagnosis, the
more favourable the prognosis.
Tumours confined to the prostate (T1
and T2) have a better prognosis than
tumours that have spread outside the
prostate (T3 and T4).
Gleason score
The Gleason score indicates the
aggressiveness of the prostate cancer:
Scores less than 7 indicate a more
favourable prognosis.
A score of 7 indicates an intermediate
prognosis.
Scores greater than 7 indicate a less
favourable prognosis.
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level
The prostate-specific antigen (PSA)
level at the time of diagnosis may
indicate how much prostate cancer is
in the body (tumour burden). Higher
PSA levels indicate that there is a
higher tumour burden in the body. A
PSA less than 10 is favourable, while
a PSA greater than 20 is considered
unfavourable. A PSA between 10 and
20 is intermediate.
Other factors
Other factors may have an effect on a man's
overall prognosis for prostate cancer:
cancer
Oncologists may classify prostate
cancer into groups based on the risk of
recurrence (low risk, intermediate risk
or high risk). These levels of risk can
guide treatment plans for a man with
prostate cancer.
Men in the high-risk group are offered
aggressive treatment. Those in the low-risk
group may be offered active surveillance
without immediate treatment.
Survival statistics for prostate cancer
Survival statistics for prostate cancer
are very general estimates and must
be interpreted very carefully. Because
survival statistics are based on the
experience of groups of people, they
cannot be used to predict a particular
person's chances of survival.
There are many different ways to
measure and report cancer survival
statistics. Your doctor can explain the
statistics for prostate cancer and what
they mean to you.
Relative survival
Relative survival looks at how likely
people with cancer are to survive after
their diagnosis compared to people
in the general population who do not
have cancer, but who share similar
characteristics (such as age and sex).
In Canada, a 5-year relative survival
statistic is reported for prostate cancer. The
5-year relative survival for prostate cancer
is 96%. This means that, on average, men
diagnosed with prostate cancer are 96%
as likely to live 5 years after diagnosis as
people in the general population.
Survival by stage
Survival varies with each stage of prostate
cancer. The following factors can also
affect survival for prostate cancer.
-Prostate cancer grows slowly. Many
older men will die from diseases other
than prostate cancer.
-Generally, the earlier prostate cancer
is diagnosed and treated, the better the
outcome.
-Sometimes prostate cancer is not found
until it is at an advanced stage, which
can make it more difficult to treat.
-Prostate cancer is very responsive to
treatment.
-There are many effective treatments
available for prostate cancer.
-Advanced, recurrent and hormoneresistant prostate cancers can be
difficult to treat because these do not
respond well to some cancer treatments.
-The grade of prostate cancer is also a
strong predictor of survival.
UICC prognostic grouping of prostate
cancer of the prostate is based on the
stage, PSA level and the Gleason score
of the prostate cancer. This is a more
accurate grouping than stage grouping
to assess prognosis.

Vyjayanthimala Bali
Daughter of Shri M.D.Raman
and Shrimati Vasundhara Devi,
Vyjayanthimala was born in Madras
(Chennai) on August 13, 1936.
Schooling was in Presentation Convent
and Good Shepherd Convent, both in
Madras. She started taking lessons
in Bharatanatyam dancing from
a very early age and was already
performing on stage while still in
high school. A family friend, Shri
M.V.Raman, after watching her dance
performance, launched her in AVM's
Tamil film Vazhkai in 1949. Initially,
Vyjayanthimala's orthodox family did
not want her to enter the film industry.
But eventually, her foresighted
grandmother, Yadugiri Devi, who often
watched over young Vyjayanthimala's
life and guided her career, consented
and let Vyjayanthimala play a role in
Vazhkai. The film was such a great
success that it was re-made in Telugu
(Jeevitham). The Telugu version was
also a hit. AVM Productions then
decided to go to Bombay and do the
film in Hindi. Vyjayanthimala was
chosen to do the Hindi version too.
Vyjayanthimala had the advantage
of being fluent in Hindi as she had
studied Hindi at Hindi Prachar Sabha
in Madras. The Hindi version of the
movie, Bahar, was released in 1951
and it was also a commercial success.
Tamilian Vyjayanthimala thus entered
the world of Bombay based Hindi
films.
Vyjayanthimala is also interested in
politics and has actively participated
in Indian politics. She was elected to
the Lok Sabha (Lower House of the
Indian Parliament) twice and was also
nominated to the Rajya Sabha (Upper
House of the Indian Parliament) once.
She was very close to the then Indian
Prime Minister, Shrimati Indira Gandhi.
Vyjayanthimala, now over 70, still
actively pursues her number one
passion - dancing. She continues to do
dance research and choreography and
on special occasions even performs
on stage. She is the Life President
and Trustee of Natyalaya Academy of
Classical Bharatanatyam and Music in
her hometown Chennai. She is also the
Founder Trustee of Dr. Bali Pharma
Foundation - a charitable trust, to
serve the poor and downtrodden and
to look after the welfare of women
and children. She has now distanced
herself from the movie industry and
Mumbai (Bombay).
At age 15, she got a break in an AVM
(production house) Tamil movie,
Vazhkai, which was produced by M.
V. Raman, a family friend. The movie
was a success, and was remade in Hindi

Chances Are, After The Online Job Application, No Human Eyes Will
Ever See Your Resume
Al Kamal, MBA
Arza Employment Serv Ltd
When you fill out the online job
application, your application enters a
database of applications, sometimes
called the automated applicant tracking
system, or the online application
repository. Most people know of it
as the resume black hole. How many
times have you heard of people filling
out dozens or even hundreds of online
applications without even getting one
response back!
Automated systems sort and process
the applications. If your application
isnt processed and brought to the top
of the list of applications, it simply
wont even be reviewed by human
beings.
What do you need to get to the top
of the automated list, and get past the
autobot filters designed to weed out
applicants before HR or anyone else
needs to spend any time on it?
You will need three things:
1.
Exact keywords and phrases
2.
Find jobs that closely match
your skills and abilities
3.
The right contacts to follow up
with.
Exact Keywords And Phrases
If you dont have the exact keywords
and phrases that the automated system
is looking for, your application will
fail. It is that simple. For an example,
I will assume most everyone has done
a Google search before. In the Google
search window, a person will type in a
know it.
Companies often hire people who
are a known entity. They are friends
of someone in the company, or have
worked with someone in the past. This
is where the saying comes from, who

know
No place is that more evident than
when it comes to getting hired. As it
turns out, knowing who to contact and
how to contact them is a key component
to becoming that known entity, and
