Welcome to

In the highly competitive global economy,
the traditional MBA toolkit is a pre-
requisite for aspiring leaders. But top MBA
graduates are looking for more: new ideas,
new products, new opportunities. These
require a new set of insights and skills.
To stand out, leaders need to be able to
innovate and think creatively. They need
to know how to make things happen.
At Melbourne Business School, we go
beyond the traditional MBA curriculum of
case studies and established disciplines.

agility, resilience and the ability not only
to manage complexity, but also to seize
the opportunities it presents.

the way things are done, deliver
new approaches and craft innovative

you think about business.

1 year 1 world-class MBA
Melbourne Business Schools one-year full-time MBA is an intensive
experience designed for maximum impact. In a class of highly motivated
individuals with a track record of achievement and supportive faculty
who are leaders in their elds, you will be challenged and stretched to
unlock your potential. It will transform how you think about the world
and how you think about yourself.
I dont believe that I would be in the role that Im in, or that
I would have enjoyed my previous roles as I have, if I hadnt
done the Melbourne Business School MBA. The MBA provided me
with a far broader set of skills than I would have achieved through either the
undergraduate degree that I had, or the University of Life.

We keep our full-time MBA classes
intimate because we know you value an
environment in which you can form close
and lasting relationships. We also know
diversity makes a real difference.
Within the class, the broader the spectrum

It is the diversity of experience that
you and your colleagues bring to your

understanding of all aspects of business
theory and practice, challenge your
assumptions and extend your thinking.
Living and working in the intense
environment of your MBA is an
opportunity to navigate a variety of
opinions and to tap into the rich resource
of your collective expertise. The legacy
will remain with you forever.

Collaborate for success
Working with such a diverse group of people can be
challenging, yet creating amazing and innovative outcomes
together can be exciting, and in addition very strong learning
opportunities result opportunities that would be extremely
hard to replicate elsewhere.
My MBA gave me the courage to question my assumptions,
and challenge what we do and why. Its a way of thinking that
spreads to people that surround you at work. It constantly
breathes new life into business challenges.

approached by the worlds leading luxury brand house to become
their branding adviser, to run a program to train their executives,
it started a relationship which is still going to this day.

Thrive on innovative
teaching techniques
Management concepts and analytical
skills become truly powerful when
they are combined with experience
and insight. Through your faculty and
your peers, you will approach problems
from multiple perspectives.

We teach using a variety of techniques,
including case studies, simulations and
projects. These allow you to take a real-
life situation and drill down into the
details, think critically and articulate
your position.

Our focus on actual business
challenges means that your
learning has real-world resonance.
At Melbourne Business School, we
bring it further to life by integrating
our teaching. Integrated Fridays are
co-taught by faculty members from
different disciplines. Together, they
examine a case and analyse the
issues it raises from their different
perspectives and cross-fertilise their
disciplines. To complete the learning
process, we also invite business
practitioners to join the discussion,
contributing a pragmatic, hands-on
point of view. After all, the real world is
messy and we know that solutions do
not come in a one-size-ts-all format.
Finally, we understand that decisions
are often made in the face of debate
and opposition. In a supportive
environment, we show you how to
build coalitions, how to persuade and
inuence and how to lead.
You go from black and white television
to colour when you overlay the core
faculty and disciplines. Business is multi-
dimensional. There is always another consideration.

Real business problems are complex and
cross disciplines. We bring faculty together
from different areas of expertise to teach real
world business cases, examining real world
problems. We then approach key issues
from these diverse faculty perspectives,
and the students apply their own past
experience and classroom learnings. Thats
much more realistic than the traditional
approach of teaching in silos. You dont
see this interdisciplinary teaching
in any other business school. This
is something unique that grows from the
cooperative culture of the faculty here, and it
has a terric impact on our students.

I did the one year for the intensity. I didnt want to waste any
time doing anything less or slower. And when you go into business, or
into consulting, every day is intense, at every level. You learn how to perform under
pressure, and in a safe environment. You learn discipline.
The Melbourne Business School MBA is an intensive one year
program, with all the core subjects of a traditional MBA, plus a
range of extra options, that ensures the MBA you leave with is
the MBA that will drive your ongoing career success.
Marketing
Operations
Internships and
consulting projects
Working on a particular project within an
organisation, you have the opportunity
to immerse yourself in the issues and
challenges facing the company. Its an
experience that adds value to your learning
and enables you to explore a specic
industry as part of your career planning.
Exchange programs
All our full-time MBA students are eligible
to apply to participate in our international
exchange program with more than 40
partner business schools in Asia, Europe
and the Americas.
The program also attracts exchange students
to Melbourne Business School every year.
These students work closely with their
Melbourne colleagues in syndicate groups
and join in with class activities, increasing
diversity and boosting your learning.

Business in Asia
Fifty per cent of the worlds economic
growth is centred in South East Asia.
Understanding business in Asia is
central to understanding business
today. It is a core module of our MBA.
You will not only study the dynamics
of the worlds largest economy, you
will have the opportunity to spend
an intensive week on the ground in
the city of Shanghai, the engine of
Chinas economic growth.
You will design a project with your
syndicate team that draws on your
learning in class, and which reects
your own career interests and
ambitions: launch a new product
or venture into Asia, consider an
industry in-depth or examine export
opportunities for Chinese services or
products. What better way to gain
practical insights into the workings
and cultural parameters of this
booming region? They are insights
that will inform your future
business thinking.

During their time in Asia, students apply what they have learned
in class in the messy, unpredictable real world of business. China
is challenging the US as the worlds largest economy and is Australias largest

A day in your MBA life
Every day of the program is intense. Apart from preparing
and taking part in classes, theres an array of extra
curricular activities to enjoy, as well as all that Melbourne
has to offer as a busy, cosmopolitan city.
Youll have downtime for sports and other relaxation
activities too, with a midday break to allow you to refocus
energy for the afternoon.
7.30am
In early for a
syndicate group
meeting to
resolve some
questions about
the project work.
Also time to
compare notes on
todays case study.
10.00am
Short break.
Good to stretch
the legs and get
a coffee.
8.30am
The rst class begins. Can be a bit nerve
wracking waiting to see whether the
professor cold calls anyone to share
their analysis. Once the debate begins,
energy in the roomrises and the number
of opinions and perspectives is incredible.
Like any business issue, theres rarely
a single right way. Exploring options,
applying learned techniques to test the
scenario is where the learning happens.
3.30pm
More reading and
analysis. Also getting
ready for the consulting
event tonight. Doing
background research on
the rms coming
in, to be well prepared
for the panel discussion.
5.00pm
Meet with syndicate group to brainstorm ideas
about marketing assignment. Even working on
an individual piece, brainstorming as a group
broadens the thinking. Coming from a nance
background, you learn a lot from the marketers in
the class.
11.00pm
Home, sleep
ready for the
next day.
7.00pm
All the study done, theres
an opportunity to join in one
of the many school or club
events. Perhaps the consulting
group panel, with alumni now
employed in the top 4 global
rms coming in to share their
insights, or the women and
management speaker event.
8.20am
Aquick catchup on
email before class.
Line up career
coaching and
consider which
events to attend
this week. Plenty
to choose from.
12.30pm
Lunch in the courtyard then off to train for the
inter-school sports competition against AGSM.
2.00pm
Syndicate group
presentation in the
Business in Asia core
module. The data
research, the industry
benchmarking
and the on the
ground interviews
in Shanghai come
together to deliver
some great insight
into exporting into
the Chinese market.
