Segment Management with BR*Tools

Use
You can manage the segments that is, tables and indexes on your Oracle database
with BR*Tools.
This section describes how you manage segments with BR*Tools.
For more information on the approach to manage segments, see egment !anagement.
Integration
BR"#$ or BRTOO% calls the &' tool BRSPACE. You can also manage segments
by calling BR'&() from the command line. *owe+er, unless you choose batch mode
with the o,tion c force, BR'&() dis, lays menus to hel, you enter the re-uired
o,tions.
.e recommend you to normally use BR"#$ or BRTOO% rather than BR'&(). This
is because the menus in BR"#$ or BRTOO% sim, lify entry of the correct o,tions.
$f re-uired, set the following ,arameters for BR'&() in the $nitiali/ation 'rofile
init01B$12.sa,3
scroll4lines and show4,eriod. to control the screen dis,lay
reorg4table to s,ecify a list of tables for reorgani/ation
rebuild4index to s,ecify a list of indexes for rebuild
ex,4table to s,ecify a list of tables for ex,ort
im,4table to s,ecify a list of tables for im,ort
Features
You can ,erform the following functions for segment management with BR*Tools3
Reorgani/e tables
Rebuild indexes
)x,ort tables
$m,ort tables
&lter tables
&lter indexes
Activities
...
5. You choose egment management in the BR"#$ or BRTOO% menus or directly from
the command line. You can use -uic6 mode if you 6now which ob7ects you re-uire. For
more information on -uic6 mode, see BR*Tools #ser $nterface
8. $f re-uired, you change the default +alues for the ,arameters in the initiali/ation ,rofile
init<DBSID>.sap and restart BR"#$ or BRTOO%.
9. $f re-uired, you choose egment !anagement Reset input values to set the defaults
used to the +alues set after BR"#$ or BRTOO% initiali/ation.
:. You start segment management.
You chec6 the results of segment management in the BR'&() logs.
Selecting !"ects
You can select the ob7ects that is, the tables or indexes for segment management
functions in one or more of the following ways3
By s,ecifying tables or indexes directly by name
By s,ecifying a tables,ace name all ob7ects in the s,ecified tables,ace are selected
By s,ecifying the owner name all ob7ects with the s,ecified owner are selected.
This is useful for systems with !ulti,le (om,onents in One 1atabase ;!(O1<.
Selecting Multiple !"ects
.hen s,ecifying tables or indexes directly by name, you can use wildcards or a
,arameter in the initiali/ation ,rofile init01B$12.sa, to select multiple tables or
indexes.
.ildcards
.hen you use BR"#$ or BRTOO%, or call BR'&() from the command line, you can
use one of the following ty,es of wildcard3
Final selection wildcard, using the character =*>
$f you enter dba*, BR'&() selects all tables or indexes beginning with the characters
=dba.>
BR'&() dis, lays a list of tables or indexes meeting your selection criterion, but this is
only for confirmation. You cannot ma6e a further selection.
're?selection wildcard, using the character =@>
$f you enter dba%, BR'&() ,reselects all tables or indexes beginning with the
characters =dba.>
BR'&() dis, lays a list of tables or indexes meeting your selection criterion. You can
now ma6e a #urther selection from this list, if re-uired.
Aote the following features when using wildcards3
You must always ,ut the wildcard at the end.
For exam,le, dba* is +alid, but db*a is not +alid.
.ildcards are not +alid for tables, aces or owners. That is, you can only use
wildcards to directly s,ecify grou,s of tables or indexes.
$f you use wildcards on the final ob7ect to select multi,le ob7ects in $uic% mo&e,
BR'&() dis,lays a list of ob7ects for confirmation.
The final ob7ect is the one s,ecified in the function name that is, ta!le for the functions
reorgani/e, ex,ort, im,ort, or alter tables, or in&e' for the function alter or rebuild
indexes.
You can ma6e a final selection with wildcards onl( on the #inal o!"ect for the
function.
For exam,le, for the function =&lter index> you can only ma6e a final selection with a
wildcard by entering =*> or =0,refix2*> in the index name field. $f you enter =*> or
=0,refix2*> in the table name field for =&lter index,> this is treated as a ,re?selection
wildcard.
You can use the following ,arameters from the initiali/ation ,rofile init01B$12.sa,
to s,ecify a long list of ob7ect names3
reorg4table s,ecifies a list of tables to reorgani/e
rebuild4index s,ecifies a list of indexes to rebuild
ex,4table s,ecifies a list of tables to ex,ort
im,4table s,ecifies a list of tables to im,ort
