Carry Out began
Mikel said she learned
about “kitchen ministries” at
a conference in Orlando in
January 2009. She had lunch
with Hamberger soon after-
ward and the rest is history.
“Maggie is really passionate
about this!” said Mikel.
In late summer, volunteers
met with four principals of
Title 1 schools the church al-
ready partners with for
mentoring and reading bud-
dies. More than a dozen
people have volunteered so
far. “The generosity of the
community is just over-
whelming!” said Hamberger.
Mikel believes there are
many churches that would
want to partner with local
schools. “My dream is that
every school would have a
Carry Out for Kids program.
It is a great thing!”
