Course Objectives:

1. To develop skills in proper typing techniques.


2. To understand what computers are, how they function, and how they are used in society.
3. To develop skills in using Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
4. To develop skills in using Google Docs and presentation programs such as Prezi
5. To develop skills in using the iPad
6. To understand what it means to have good Internet etiquette
7. To learn together with respect, responsibility, communication and cooperation.
Examples of Class Activities:
Using keyboarding software such as Typing Web to develop keyboarding skills and speed
Using Microsoft Office and Google software to learn word processing, spreadsheet,
presentation, and web page creation skills
Reading, writing, lecture, discussions, hands-on activities, creating pictures & diagrams and
other activities to learn about computers
Required Materials:
A 3-ring 1 binder for all projects, in class homework and quizzes. Save all class work for
this class until the end of the quarter!
Lined paper, 2 or more pencils and 2 or more pens
Agenda book
In Class Assignments/Homework:
In-Class Assignments (Microsoft Office Assignments, Google Docs Assignments, Etc.)
Since not everyone has a computer at home, no computer-based homework is ever assigned.
However, additional practice or work time on a computer, as needed by individual students,
may be necessary in order to practice basic skills or complete class assignments. Students are
expected to do this work in the computer lab. Some activities may require the student to use
Microsoft Office 2010
Late Work:
If you are absent, you should make up work you missed. Only work completed promptly
will be given full credit. It is the responsibility of the student to find out what work has
been missed.
Late work turned in the next morning will be accepted on most assignments, for partial
credit (Up to 90% credit). Some assignments must be handed in or otherwise completed on
the due date in order to receive any credit at all.
If You Want Extra Help:
Ask for Help! Please ask for help during class.
If you want extra time in the lab, or additional help outside of class, ask me. I am happy to
help if at all possible.
Assessment & Grading:
Formal assessments will include:
o Keyboarding Accuracy and Speed Test (Once or Twice Quarterly)
o In Class Assignments
o Projects
o Paper-and-pencil quizzes
o Project Review quizzes
The grading scale can be found in the schools handbook
Extra Credit opportunities are available, but students must already have completed the
regular assignments before they are eligible for extra credit.
Course Expectations and Rules:
Show RESPECT to yourself, other people, and the lab equipment.
Accept RESPONSIBILITY for your work, your decisions, and your actions.
COMMUNICATE what you think, feel, want and need. Ask for help!
Work COOPERATIVELY with your classmates.
Be PREPARED and Stay FOCUSED.

Consequences:
Students who do not follow the rules and procedures will face some or all of the following
consequences. Severe infractions such as fighting will be immediately referred to the school
administration.

3. Demerit Will contact parent/guardian
4. Office referral
