Ayurved has defined %ife in a uni5ue 6ay as a combination of
body, senses, mind and sou%. 7ife is further divided into three subcate&ories 4

In the above sutra, 8hara!acharya has e9p%ained the concept of
Satm!a.
Satmya can be defined as continuous or perpetua% use of any food
substance by 6hich the body &ets accustomed to that substance and there is no i%%
effect on the body due to consumption of that substance.
7on&evity of %ife is direct%y re%ated to many factors in Ayurved,
one of 6hich bein& Satmya. 2hus the concept of Satmya is very vita% 6ith respect
to %ife and has to be studied in detai%.

Samhita it can be noticed that %on&evity of %ife is direct%y re%ated to the concept of
Satmyasevan.
(asasatmya means consumption of the number of rasas from
the diet on re&u%ar basis by 6hich the food becomes habitua% to the body 6ithout
producin& any i%% effects. Satmya has been c%assified into three subcate&ories
dependin& upon the no of rasas consumed.

It has a%so been stated that persons consumin& ma9imum no of
rasas is considered to be %on& %ived. 2herefore it is important to e9p%ain the e9act
re%ationship bet6een (asasatmya and Deer&hayushya.
So it 6i%% be my sincere efforts to e9p%ain the concept of (asasatmya 6ith
respect to Deer&hayushya so that it 6i%% he%p in better understandin& the concept
and for other research scho%ars in future.

(asasatmya in 8hara! Samhita.
