PREPARED BY MR TREVOR DUNNE 2015

SUMMER SPORT COMMITMENT

Whilst summer sport is optional for all boys we encourage all boys in years 3 to 6 are encouraged to participate in
summer sport that is played throughout the year on Saturday mornings. In summer Cricket is the main sport offered
but there is also Basketball and Tennis for those boys who do not wish to trial for cricket teams. Cricket is played in
Year Groups. Water polo is also offered in for boys in Years 5 and 6 with two combined teams. For Years 3/4
combined there will be two basketball teams during summer for which the boys may trial and if not successful they
may trial for Cricket.

Boys who have prior commitments in club cricket may choose to continue to play club cricket instead of for the
school should they wish to finish out the season with them but it is important to remember that those boys who do
not play cricket for the school in Term I cannot play for the school in Term IV as it is a continuation of the season.
Boys in Year 3 are given the choice to play Cricket in Term I and IV for the school but may continue to honour club
commitments if this is applicable. All players will attend all training sessions, fitness sessions and Saturday games

SATURDAY GAMES
Attendance at Saturday morning sport is compulsory for those boys who elected to participate in either
summer sport. The only exceptions are:
Sickness on Saturday morning (wet weather contact notified to pass on message to coach)
Midweek absence due to sickness - school will assume absence will also include Saturday sport
Rostered off - this may occur in some grades and families may have the opportunity to nominate
which weekend their son would like off
Extended injury resulting in match restriction - boys are still required to attend Saturday matches to
assist and support their peers in roles to be determined by the coach and the within the parameters
of the injury
Principals exemption - there may special circumstances surrounding your son not participating in
Saturday sport where the Principal can allow leave from the particular season.

CLUB SPORT- this is encouraged where possible and when it fits into or around school sport.

MID WEEK TRAINING ABSENCES
If your son is going to be absent from a mid-week training session, he will need to notify me in writing,
including the details surrounding his absence.

If your son is sick on the morning of his game you will need to notify the team manager or captain ASAP so
that a suitable replacement from another team can be found.

If your son is absent from training or a game and I have received no explanation prior to the game, then he
will make up the time during a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon detention.

It is vital that all boys are accounted for and that no team is disadvantaged as a result of boys not turning
up to their game.

Boys are expected to meet their coach 30min before the scheduled start time of their game, unless
otherwise stated by the coach.

Boys are also encouraged to inform other coaches within the same age group that they are able to fill in if
they require extra players.

COMMUNICATION AND ACCESSING INFORMATION (3 WAYS)

(1) MANRESA THROUGH THE SCHOOL WEBSITE

In the history of the Jesuits, a cave features prominently. It is on the edge of Manresa, a town in northern Spain
beside the river Cardoner. Here Ignatius Loyola lived for about a year, where the Lord guided him slowly and
sometimes painfully in his spiritual growth and transformation. Manresa is our digital cave where you can access
all information relating to Winter sport for the Junior School.

STUDENT LOG ON DETAILS FOR MANRESA
These were provided in Term 1.

All sport notes will be placed electronically on our Manresa site for your information and for you to
download/confirm etc. Each week I will publicise in the newsletter what documents have been uploaded;
Each sport we offer in the Junior School has a separate area for all information including admin, structure, reports
and photos. Please choose which sport you are after for all information relating to that particular sport
If you are after season draws, training time tables and other important information please see the SPORT
NOTICES link at the top right of the page. This will direct you to all documents that have been uploaded.
Please note regarding draws that any late changes will be posted on our Junior School twitter site.

(2) EDMODO

Edmodo provides teachers and students a secure place to connect, collaborate and share content. Teachers are also
able to post grades, assignments and quizzes to students.

Functionally, it allows me to post messages regarding winter sport, or advertising that new documents can be now
downloaded. Most of these posts will be placed in the SPORT group on Edmodo.

STUDENT LOG ON DETAILS FOR EDMODO
Usernames have been allolcated to you in Term 1. The password is 4 letters of your first name and some numbers
(to be allolcated).

(3) TWITTER

MIDWEEK SPORT TRAINING
Notice for ground closure by local councils for the same day is usually communicated to me by 1.00pm where
grounds may be closed. When this is the case I will leave a tweet online and may include ground changes if
applicable. If training venues are changed as a result of grounds being closed and others open I will try to include all
this info on the same tweet. Also this information will also be available through Debbie in reception.

SATURDAY SPORT MATCHES
Due to the nature of JS sport (where we play over 11 different schools in any one round) compared to SS sport (1
school per round in major sports) sportsmasters communicate with each other at 6am on Saturday mornings. This is
after we hear from local council rangers in regards to their grounds being open or closed. This timeframe tied in with
some games starting at 7.30am with travel time not included does not allow for a large window for all parties. A
tweet will be placed online between 6.30am and 6.45am regarding all games. Please note that JS policy is that if
games are cancelled at this time and the weather improves games are not rescheduled.

In winter, notices for cancellation or amendments for both midweek sport training and Saturday matches will be
available on twitter. This notification system will also be used by me to advertise that new notices have been
uploaded to our intranet (Manresa).

I would recommend though that you set up an account as messages can be sent directly to your smart phone or as a
text as soon as they are placed. This is extremely useful when trainings are cancelled and or amended or when
notices are advertised.

If you are not a fan or do not wish to set up an account for the purpose of sport messages then please refer to the
school website where the twitter messages that I generate are cloned. Click on the link WET WEATHER
NOTIFICATIONS, and then click on the Junior School tab to see the messages.
