Kershaw, Lana. "Health Insurance and the Reform." Telephone interview. 10 Apr. 2014
I had an interview with an insurance agent. She has sold insurance for a few different
insurance companies. Shes been in the insurance industry for quite some time now
working for different places like, Blue Cross Blue Shield and eHealth Insurance. Shes
very knowledgeable on the topic. I asked her a variety of questions and the things she had
to say were pretty surprising. She mentioned that the one thing that has surprised her was
the amount of people that didnt know what the benefits of the reform are. I think this
information will be useful in my paper because she touched on some things that I wasnt
aware of before talking to her. Interviewing her gave me some hope have another
interview scheduled for Wednesday April 16th at 4:00pm via telephone with a
Representative in the Utah State Legislature. Im really looking forward to learning more
about the reform and the views that politicians have on it.
Representative Chavez-Houck, Rebecca. Affordable Health Care Telephone interview. 1
April 2014.
I was lucky enough to land an interview with a Representatives in the Utah State
Legislature. She was appointed in 2008. Shes the Minority Whip as well as head of the
Health and Human Services Committee. She had a lot of information about the reform
and why people arent clear on what exactly the reform entails. She was very

knowledgeable and provided a lot of great insight for my paper. She gave me clarity on
the subject and provided a lot of detail about what was actually going on. Thus is why I
paraphrased a lot of the conversation I had with her.
Tozzi, John. "The Healthy, the White, and the 50-Plus Are Most Likely to Oppose Obama-care."
Bloomberg Business Week. Bloomberg, 03 Mar. 2014. Web. 13 Apr. 2014
I got a lot of information from this website about the public opinion of Obama-care and
how misinformed we all are. This mostly shows different graphs and percentages of the
publics opinions on the healthcare reform. According to the polls, we really arent sure
what is included in the reform. As a whole we are basing our opinions based on our
political party. This survey even shows that the one aspect everyone seemed to know
about is the fact that if you dont/didnt have insurance purchased by the end of March
2014 you would be fined; its now a law to have insurance no longer just an option. Also,
I learned that small business and individuals get a tax break, which I didnt know before.
I think this information will be helpful in my paper because it shows that Im not the only
one that wasnt knowledgeable on the subject. Also, I think it gives some pertinent
information that people should probably know.
Ura, Alexa. "Doctors Shun Insurance, Offering Care for Cash." The New York Times. The New
York Times, 10 Apr. 2014. Web. 13 Apr. 2014.
This newspaper article talks about the millions of Texas residents that are uninsured and
the doctors that are forgoing using the insurance system. There are different examples of
the ways that doctors are going about this. One father-son business is offering
memberships that basically charge an annual fee for their members and the cost covers all
vaccinations, unlimited office visits and medical care at all hours via phone call. It then

goes on to state that from the doctors perspective theyre able to work less hours to make
a good living. They dont have to take as many appointments to make money. Some
charge a $50 flat rate to treat things like the common cold, some infections and other
minor health concerns. If they do require special things that include an X-ray or MRI
theyll be referred and probably have to have insurance coverage. This will be a good
piece to include in my research because, it focuses on the physicians viewpoint of the
healthcare system and that its not up to the doctors to charge the way they do.
