DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING
COURSE NO.: ECE 102 (CSE) / ECE 202 (CEE) Name Of The Expt.: Verification of Superposition Theorem. OBJECTIVE: To verify experimentally the Superposition theorem which is an analytical technique of determining currents in a circuit with more than one emf source. Theorem: In a circuit (network) made up of linear elements (e.g. resistors) and containing two or more sources of emf, the current in any particular ranch when all the emf sources are acting simultaneously may e found y considering the sources of emf to act one at a time, then finding the current in the specified ranch due to each source and then superimposing, or adding algeraically, these component currents. !ote regarding Superposition theorem" #hile the current due to a particular source of emf is eing found the other emf sources are rendered inactive and if any ranch element is in series with those sources that remains intact. APPARATUS: Two $% power supplies of suitale voltage and current ratings. Three rheostats of suitale ratings. Three $% ammeter (&'( amps) and one $% voltmeter (&'(& )). *ne multimeter. Two S+$T switches and one S+ST switch. PROCEDURES: Set up the network (circuit) as in ,ig. -. ,ig. - .eep oth sources active in the circuit y keeping the poles of S+$T s in proper position. /pply -( volts from 0- and 1& volts from 01. EXPT. NO. 4 S 1 2 1 S 2 2 1 S 3 I 2 - 2 1 2 3 0 1 0 - / Set the rheostats 2-, 21, 23 at such value so that none of the ammeter readings I- , I1 , I3 exceed the power supplies ( 0- and 01 current ratings and the rheostat current) ratings. 4easure the current I1 and record it in the given tale. 2ender 01 inactive. 4easure the current I1 5 in the ranch 21 and record it in the Tale. 2ender 0- inactive. 4easure the current I1 55 in the ranch 21 and record it in the Tale. )erify if I1 6 I1 5 7 I1 55 which would validate the superposition theorem for this particular circuit. 2epeat steps 8 to -& y changing 2-, 21, and 23 and take a few more sets of readings.
