What is the R-5 Window Program?
Ideal Window is proud to offer our UltraWeld window
which qualifies for the Department of Energy's
Building Technologies Program for Highly Efficient
R5 Windows.


Key Points
1) R-5 Windows are highly insulating windows with a whole window
R-value of around 5 (A U-Factor of 0.22) and are at the top tier of
energy efficient windows for cold and mixed climates available
today.
2) Common Energy Star windows only have an R-value of around 3.3
in the Northern Region. Increasing the R-Value from 3 to 5 reduces
the average heat loss through the windows by about 40% and saves
the consumer money on their energy bills.
3) The principal barrier to widespread market commercialization of
R-5 windows is the cost. The DOE is working with the fenestration
industry and potential buyers to lower costs and make these energy
efficient products more readily available.
4) Currently many states are specifying R-5 rated products for use in
their weatherization programs.
The R5 program is an effort by the U.S. Department of Energy to promote
windows with an overall window R Factor of 5.

Argon Gas, which is about 190%
more dense than air, replaces air
and is sealed between the panes of
glass.
The result is a slower transfer of
temperature through the I.G. unit.

Krypton Gas is most effective in
narrow air spaces, such as the gaps
found in a piece of triple glazed
insulated glass. Krypton is two to
three times as heavy as Argon,
further slowing the heat transfer or
conduction between the inside and
outside and vice-versa.

of the windows glass warmer, therefore reducing the overall U-
Factor as well as helping to eliminate interior condensation

! Intercept spacer is machine formed, folded and installed straight,
providing a spacer which stays hidden behind the sash profile over
long distances and in the corners.

plot for grids to be clipped into. This virtually eliminates crooked
grids due to human error or handling.

allowing the I.G. unit to adjust to temperature changes.
! The U-Channel design adjusts to convex or outward bowing which
occurs during the summer months when the airspace is hot and
convex or inward bowing which occurs during the cold winter

Ideal meets these requirements!
THE AMERICAN RECOVERY & REINVESTMENT ACT:
Provides a consumer tax credit of 10% of the cost up to $200. Our windows qualify.
Applies to products placed in service from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.
Only windows with a U-Value of 0.30 or lower and solar heat gain coefficient of at least
0.30 or lower, or Energy Star compliant window will qualify.
Products must be for taxpayers principle residence.
