KYLE CARNEY/The Sun
Josh Primmer baits his line while Frank Esbensen watches his in the water at Strawbridge Lake on Aug. 6. There wasnt much biting,
but the pair continued to throw their lines in, eventually netting a bass. They werent the only ones fishing on the lake, as many people
were out and about enjoying the beautiful summer weather.
Finding a Moorestown fishing hole
By KYLE CARNEY
The Sun
In a town such as Moorestown,
there arent very many projects
available to a teenager looking to
earn an Eagle Scout badge. It took
17-year-old Kirk Zimmer Jr. a lit-
tle while to find his project, but
when he did, he dove in headfirst.
I was talking to my benefici-
ary and he suggested restoring
the Mount Carmel Cemetery
wrought iron fence, Zimmer
said. When I looked at the fence,
I knew it wasnt going to be a one-
man job, but I also knew that the
work needed to get done.
Before Zimmer could even for-
mulate a plan for how to attack
the work, he had to find some vol-
unteers.
That was definitely a little
tough, he said. Since the project
was hands on, I figured it was
going to be hard to find anyone
who wanted to help, but it wasnt
actually as hard as I thought it
was going to be.
Zimmer was creative, using the

By KYLE CARNEY
The Sun
Moorestown Department of
Parks and Recreation offers a
number of fall programs,
but one in particular
has Kahra Buss ex-
cited.
The youth
soccer
league we
have is a
very excit-
ing pro-
gram,
she said.
For most
kids, its
the first
program
they can par-
ticipate in, so
its very fun to
see the next crop of
kids who come through
every year.
The youth soccer program has
been around for the better half of
the century, and according to
Buss, it continues to get more
children involved every year.
Thousands of kids have
passed through our youth soccer
league, she said. This year, we
are expecting to get more than 500
kids signed up, which is a tremen-
dous number.
The league is designed as a de-
velopmental and learning oppor-
tunity for the kids, as well as a
chance to play within the commu-
nity. Buss has seen a shift in the
role of recreational soccer in re-
cent years. Whereas kids used to
play for the majority of their
youth, many kids are now joining
travel teams at a younger age.
The kids love playing against
their friends, she said. Instead
of traveling all over the place and
playing teams from other towns,
we try to provide a community as-
pect, where kids will know the
players on the other team.
There is also a charitable side
to the program that sets it apart
from other programs offered by
the Department of Parks and
Recreation. Sean Fischel Connect
Inc., an organization designed to
support childrens health and
well-being, sponsors the league.
Sean Fischel Connect was
started in memory of Sean Fis-
chel, who lost his life after bat-
tling hemophagocytic lymphohis-
tiocytosis in 2013 at 7 years old.
Sean participated in the
Moorestown soccer league, and

T
his editorial is not about Oba-
macare, per say. It wont be a
support for the infamous
health-care reform act nor a call for its
repeal.
Instead, this editorial is about health
care in general, and how theres more
than one problem under the umbrella
that needs to be solved.
Let us first backtrack and start from
the beginning...
Last week, a NBC 4 New York I-Team
investigation uncovered the story of
Bayonne resident Baer Hanusz-Ra-
jkowski.
Last August, Baer cut his finger on a
hammer, an injury that he thought
might need stitches. So Baer went to
his local emergency room the hospi-
tal, for our purposes, doesnt matter.
Turns out, no stitches were needed,
nor was an X-ray. So Baer left that
emergency room with a tetanus shot,
bandage and antibacterial ointment,
all administered by a nurse practition-
er.
The total bill for those services: al-
most $9,000. He was charged $8,200 for
the emergency room visit, $180 for a
tetanus shot, $242 for sterile supplies
and $8 for the ointment.
When asked for a comment, the CEO
of the hospital blamed the insurance
company, saying it decided to not
renew its in-network pricing contract
with the provider, which now doesnt
offer fair reimbursement rates.
Its the expected response. The med-
ical center blames the insurance com-
pany.
The insurance company, were sure,
would blame the medical center or, bet-
ter yet, blame Obamacare. Its a blame
cycle that never stops.
Baers story is a great example of
how the health-care system in this
country is flawed dramatically. Oba-
macare alone wont fix the problem at
least not as its in operation today be-
cause it only attempts to fix one spoke
and not the whole wheel.
The problem isnt just health insur-
ance, its also the health-care providers
such as this hospital. Medical centers
dont have to charge $8,200 for an emer-
gency room visit, but they do. Why?
Because, until recently, they could
without batting an eye, and insurance
companies would cover it.
But thats no longer the case. Now,
insurance companies are not covering
many medical expenses or not cover-
ing them as much as they did in the
past and the patients are the ones
who are left to suffer.
The choice ends up being a bad one
for the patient should I go to the doc-
tor if there is potentially nothing
wrong with me and pay an exorbitant
bill, or should I take the chance that
Im fine and not seek help? Thats not a
choice we should force people to make.
Until we completely reform health
care, though from the health insur-
ance to the actual health-care
providers thats an increasingly like-
ly scenario for many.
in our opinion
Health care needs to be fixed...
... And its not only the health insurance side that needs fixing

reform? Is Obamacare enough? Or do we

website to spread the word. He
also gathered a few of his fellow
Scouts from Troop 601 to fill out
the team. When the group de-
scended on the cemetery on Aug.
2, 25 volunteers surrounded Zim-
mer.
The turnout was amazing, he
said. I am really thankful to
everyone who came out and
helped me. I couldnt have done it
without them.
Zimmer also relied on the gen-
erosity of local businesses, in-
cluding Moorestown Hardware
Store, which donated $800 worth
of materials, and Home Depot.
And while it was a long process
getting the people and materials
ready, the work was still ahead of
them.
The work wasnt easy, Zim-
mer said. It was hot and humid,
but everyone made the best out of
it, and we all had fun.
To start, the volunteers had to
scrape away the rust and loose
paint that was flaking off the
fence. Once that was gone, the vol-
unteers started spraying. In total,
it took three and a half hours and
114 cans of spray paint to finish
the job.
Looking to the future, Zimmer
isnt sure about what his next vol-
unteer project will be. He does
have plans to continue with vol-
unteering, but as of now, he will
be admiring the work he has al-
ready done.
Looking at the work we did, it
looks great, he said. Anyone vis-
iting the cemetery will definitely
notice a difference, and even peo-
ple just walking by will be able to
see what we did. Im very proud of
our efforts, and Im glad we were
able to make Moorestown an even
nicer place.
Special to The Sun
Moorestown 17-year-old Kirk Zimmer Jr. painted the Mount Carmel

Its a tremendous thing they
do for the community, Buss said.
As a recreation league, we try to
do as much for the community as
possible, and its always nice to
see that our efforts are appreciat-
ed.
Sean Fischel Connect will be
joined by Live Civilly, a non-profit
organization dedicated to devel-
oping innovative youth service
initiatives at the Sept. 6 Soccer
Kickoff. The event will serve as
an opportunity to begin the soc-
cer season, as well as a chance to
give back to the community with
a food drive and a sports equip-
ment swap.
The kick-off is a great way for
everyone to get together and give
back, Buss said. We have two
great charity organizations that
come out, and we always get a
good turnout for this event.
The Sept. 6 kick-off will also
give the kids the chance to meet
their coaches and teammates.
The kids will also participate in a
skills assessment to showcase
their talents.
Its a really nice community
day, Buss said. The kids get the
chance to come out and be with
their friends, and the parents get
to meet the coaches.
Registration for the youth soc-
cer league is open until Aug.15,
and the season begins Sept. 13.
