Most of the work was putting catalog content onto a template, but I got to do creative work for a few covers as well. I put together four styles for each manufacturer, which youll see in order on the next few pages: One is a cleaner, atter version of 2013s style; one uses two blended titles to form a gradient efect, immersing the title in the space of the photo when possible; one adds a translucent back panel and tilts the title to t the action of the photo; the last places diferent vehicles on the same backdrop and uses the title to get attention, along with a diferent form of organizing the information on the back cover. With each style implemented for each brand, a cohesive set was ready no matter which was chosen. The bottom of each front cover is reserved space for customer-specic information. Umber This was an exercise in producing realistic mockups of a logo in diferent usages, both print and digital, for presentation to a client in demonstrating its versatility. For the exercise, I developed the name, logo and writing voice of a book publisher. Fausey Fashions This logo was developed for an online clothing store. It emulates the sort of classic style and tasteful restraint the client is fond of, and is intended to look at home on a collar tag. Kelchner Fitness Center My rst client work involved developing a logo for a tness center, along with posters for each of their popular group activities, seen on the next few pages. Above is the approved logo, which conveys a gender-neutral sense of speed and athleticism, along with other versions that were proposed. The poster for yoga suggests a sense of enlightened calm, as well as referencing the activitys Indian origin. The smaller version was the proposed original, while the larger version is the nal approved poster, which is less feminine as well as feeling calmer. Each poster in the project uses a diferent style to reect the feel of the depicted activity, while remaining unied by a common bottom bar. Some of the posters use humorous copy to get the viewers interest. If I could revisit this project, I probably would have made the bottom bar even more uniform, with a consistent typeface and time format. Posters (Clockwise from top left) This is a clean, organized redesign of a poster for a play. The original was a cluttered mess by comparison. This is an exercise in creating the psychedelic animal style so common in concert posters. This is part of a poster-a-day personal project, and an homage to the art deco style. Print Ads Another position involved creating print ads for newspapers in diferent regions across the country. Some of my better- executed concepts are on this page and the next. Above is the result of being given close to a dozen images with the challenge of creating a cohesive ad using all of them. Im pleased with the result I reached. To its right is an ad for an individual franchise of a large chain, which led me to emulate the chains style. This gave me the opportunity to research their ofcial style and act as if I were designing directly for them. Above is a high-quality ad produced for a small local business. This is the type of project that gives me the most satisfaction as a designer. Growing up in a small area, Ive seen my share of low-budget design, and I love being given the opportunity to improve upon it for a client who might not otherwise have access to it. Above is one of many newspaper ads Ive made that were produced to be run in grayscale. I wanted to make it as eye- catching as posssible given this limitation. www.skylarwilcox.com
