There are many yogas in our astrological texts. Pushkara Yoga has no
place there. This yoga refers to the time of death. There are two such
yogas which are inauspicious. One arises from the combination of the
lunar tithi (day) and the weekday. There are two kinds of lunar days
(tithis) in this connection. The st! "th and th lunar tithis are called
#anda. The $nd! %th and $th are &hadras. 'f these lunar tithis fall on
Sunday! Tuesday and Saturday at the time of death! it is d(i)Pushkara
Yoga. There are two groups of #akshatras (constellations) in(ol(ed in
the second (ariety. The biped #akshatras are *rigasira! +hitta and
,hanishta. The #akshatras ha(ing three feet are -rittika! Punar(asu!
.ttara! /isakha! .ttarashadha and Poor(abhadra. 'f in the abo(e d(i)
Pushkara Yoga! any of these constellations is present! then it becomes
tri)Pushkara Yoga. 0enerally death is inauspicious for the li(ing if it
falls on any of these1 (a) 2unar tithis ! $! "! %! 3! $! 4 and 56 (b)

.ttarashadha! ,hanishta! Satbhisha! Poor(abhadra! .ttarabhadra and
9e(ati. ,eath in these constellations forebodes malefic results. This
malefic nature is doubled in d(i)Pushkara Yoga and trebled in the tri)
Pushkara Yoga. :n illustration will make this clear. 'f on the day of
death there are the first lunar tithi! Tuesday and *rigasira! then it is a
case of d(i)Pushkara Yoga. 'f on the day of death we ha(e the th
lunar tithi Sunday! and Punr(asu! then there is tri)Pushkara Yoga. Of
the bad constellations for death we ha(e to find out which ha(e two
feet and which ha(e three feet. 'f the bad constellation does not fall in
these two categories! then it is only d(i)Pushkara Yoga. 'f the tithi is
neither #anda nor &hadra! but the weekday and the two)feet or three)
feet constellation is present! then it is a case of d(i)pushkara Yoga.
7hat is the result; The text states <griha na sthata(yah<1 one should
not stay in the house. 't should be closed for how long; +ounting from
the constellations from :swini and gi(ing only their number we get the
periods thus1 = and 5 > two months6 4! %! $! " and $ > three
months6 5 and 3 > fi(e months6 $4 to $% > six months. Some texts
gi(e the following1 $4 > six! $5 > fi(e! $= > four! $" > three and $% >
two months. Some state that if the dead one is a parent! then one
need not close the house. 'n these days! it is not possible to close the
house for its rental or any other significance. The basic ?uestion is >
should the house be deserted; Our answer based on the ,harma
Sastras and /edic texts is an emphatic negati(e. The authorities are
clear that the best shanti (propitiation) is <.daka)Shanti< found in the
/edic texts. This is far more efficacious than lea(ing the house
deserted. (+ourtesy1 The :strological *aga@ine! :pril! AA3)
