Verse I Unchanging Hand
Great is Thy faithfulness, Verse I
O God my Father, Time is filled with swift transition.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Naught of earth unmoved can stand.
Thou changest not, Build your hopes on things eternal.
Thy compassions, they fail not, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
As Thou has been Thou for ever wilt be.
Chorus
Hold to His hand, God’s unchanging hand.
Refrain
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Hold to His hand, God’s unchanging hand.
Morning by morning new mercies I see; Build your hopes on things eternal.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
Great is Thy faithfulness Lord unto me! Verse II
Trust in Him who will not leave you.
Verse II Whatsoever years may bring.
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
If by earthly friends forsaken,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Still more closely to Him cling.
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. (Repeat chorus)
(Repeat Refrain) Verse III
Covet not this world’s vain riches
Verse III That so rapidly decay.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Seek to gain the heav’nly treasures.
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; They will never pass away.
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

If to God you have been true,
Fair and bright the home in Glory

DAY OF DECENCY
Save The Date and Join The Protest

O
n Tuesday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. (CST), the National Action Network’s Decency Initiative
will take to the streets in 20 cities, including Chicago, in an effort to mount public pressure
on the music industry to adopt a universal standard of respect for all people.
On that day, the Chicago Chapter of the National Action Network will gather at 10:15 a.m. at the
Wrigley Plaza located in Millennium Park (corner of Michigan and Randolph), and will march from
there to the designated location of the Day of Decency protest.
Since April, the Decency Initiative, under the leadership of Reverend Al Sharpton and Tamika
Mallory, and in collaboration with dozens of activists across the nation, has demanded that the music
recording industry eliminate the use of the offensive “n,” “b,” and “h” words in recordings. Because
no other ethnic group is subjected to denigration for profit by the music industry, the Decency Initia-
tive will continue to demand a universal standard of respect, particularly for all women and African
Americans.
Protests and press conferences will take place outside the offices of major music distributors that dis-
tribute this offensive music within our communities. The protests will be multicultural and will include
all age groups. We invite all women and men (especially leaders and students), from all facets of the
community to join us. We will stand united in defense of decency, and protest the use of public airwaves
to promote disrespect. This gathering is just the beginning of a national movement to achieve this end.
For more information, call 773-319-1297 or send an e-mail to the Chicago Chapter of the National
Action Network at NAN_Chgo@yahoo.com, or visit www.nationalactionnetwork.net.

O
ur member, Lonnie Rashid Lynn (internationally known as COMMON), has released a new
CD, “Finding Forever.” COMMON’s use of the Hip Hop genre is in the socially conscious
camp of music that was the original “rap” which Michael Eric Dyson writes about and
Rev. Otis Moss preaches about. COMMON’s music does not denigrate our black queens, nor call them
out of their names!

When I talked with COMMON on the day before he went on Oprah, I reminded him that there
are some preachers who are pimps and into bling-bling, distorting the Word of God to rip off their
members, listeners and viewers; but he did not grow up in a church with that kind of preacher, so he
knew that the negative preachers were not the only preachers preaching today.

I reminded him that there are some teachers who do not care about their black, poor and disadvan-
taged students. They are only in the teaching profession for their paycheck. He knew, however, that
his mother was a teacher and that she was never that kind of teacher; so he also knew that the bad
teachers were not the only teachers in the profession today.

I ultimately reminded him that there are some rappers and some members of the Hip Hop communi-
ty who use language which calls his mother, my wife and my daughters names he did not approve of;
but they were not the only rappers. He was not one of those and neither was Kanye West. “Finding
Forever” is an example of the positive socially conscious rap he and I talked about that day. “Black
Maybe” is a must (Cut #8) on his new CD!

When COMMON says in “Black Maybe” that to be a person of color means that “Because you are
that color you endure obstacles and opposition and not all the time from other nationalities; some-
times it’s from your own kind, or maybe even from your own mind. You get judged. You get laughed
at. You get looked at wrong. You get cited for not being strong. The struggle of just being you.
The struggle of just being us! Black maybe,” that is vintage COMMON. His last line on the CD
(from “Forever Begins”) is vintage Hip-Hop theology. COMMON says, “God’s memory is forever!”

S TE WARDSHIP
the results of a Redeemed LifE
Do you know this riddle?

H
ave you ever heard the riddle, “What gets wetter the more it
dries?” At first, it doesn’t seem to make any sense. How can
something become wetter if it’s drying? However, the answer
makes it clear: A towel.

In the same way, we could ask the riddle, “What has more, the more it
gives?” If you know the answer to the first one, you may be able to guess
that this answer is “A Christian steward.”

But how? There are actually many possibilities. For example, a person
who plays the violin in the church talent show to help raise funds can also
enjoy the other performers. A person who helps paint the church gains
fellowship with those who work with him/her.

By giving time, talent and treasure, in the long run, a good steward
actually receives more. Christ makes this clear in His parable of the three
stewards. Those who invested the talents entrusted to them, were given
more.

The Stewardship Ministry

not otherwise be able to purchase them. Church In Society is asking
the Trinity Church Family to donate new book bags filled with school

During this period, Church in Society members will also be on

hand to take the names of students requesting book bags.

(Although everyone would like a book bag, we ask that you sign up only if there
