December 3, 2009

Killeen Police have arrested two Killeen men for robbing the Motel 6 located at 800 E. CTE
today, December 3, 2009 at approximately 3:30am.

Officers responded to the Motel 6 after receiving a 911 call about a robbery that had just
occurred and the suspects shot at the attendant. Upon the officer’s arrival they located the
attendant inside the motel with a gunshot wound to the head; he was alert and speaking with
officers. The victim advised two males approached the desk from one of the hallways, one male
was wearing a mask and the other male was wearing a dark colored bandana, they both were
wearing dark colored clothing and one of them was armed with a handgun. One of the suspects
jumped over the counter and demanded money from him while the other suspect acted as a
lookout. When the victim did not move the suspect shot him; the suspect then jumped back over
the counter and fled with the other suspect on foot.

The victim, a 25 year old male, was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in
stable condition and has since been transferred to the Scott & White Memorial Hospital in
Temple.

At approximately 4:30am officers were told of an armed subject outside the Kettle Restaurant
located at 1301 E. CTE; officers arrived and were told where the armed subject was located. The
officers were told the suspect was a white male wearing a black coat and black hat turned
backwards and that he was with a light skinned black male. The officers located both subjects on
the west side of the building; they were ordered to the ground and detained. The officers had
been given the description of the suspects who had robbed the Motel 6 and shot the attendant;
these two males also fit the description of the robbery suspects. During the investigation it was
determined that these two males were involved in the Aggravated Robbery of the Motel 6 and
were taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

Family has requested that the name of the victim not be released.

UPDATE: DECEMBER 4, 2009

The Bell County District Attorney’s Office issued a complaint charging 20 year old Brandon
Gregory Rendon and 24 year old Avanti Amar Leon Baugus each Aggravated Robbery of a
Business. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set their bond at $100,000; they have been
transferred to the Bell County Jail.
