The GP14 is a sailing dinghy, 14 foot (4.26m) in length, with mainsail, genoa and spinnaker (no trapeze). It was
designed by Jack Holt, who also designed the Enterprise.
GP14's are currently raced at Pretoria Sailing Club, Benoni Sailing Club and Boskop Yacht Club. Another club
with GP14's in this area is Lake Denys Yacht Club on Vaal Dam. The other stronghold of GP14's in South Africa
is George Lakes Yacht Club, Wilderness.

Enterprise

An international sailing class, the restricted design enterprise, with its
highly distinctive blue sail, is a very popular boat at many levels of
sailing. One of the finest boats designed by Jack Holt in the 1950's, this
old boat is still incredibly popular despite its age, with over 23,000
models constructed. Initially constructed from plywood, these have
now been joined by more recently built fibreglass models which are
virtually unsinkable, unlike the early ply ones. The Enterprise is a
particularly favoured boat within inland clubs, and is ideally suited to
tactical racing.

Despite their reputation as needing to be sailed
by heavyweight gorillas, Finns are actually
quite controllable. 2nd hand boats are quite
cheap and as Finns are built very solidly an old
boat isn't likely to fall apart around you!

Although the boom always looks very low and
likely to take your head off, this isn't actually a
problem as the boom lifts up when you tack
leaving plenty of room.

They are quite heavy and you could do with
being taller, stronger or heavier than average
to sail them, but well worth it.
