PRODUCT DATA SHEET METROTECT ACOTHANE TU BRUSH GRADE
Desc r i pt i on:
High build, solvent free, two component, tar modified urethane coating with
outstanding physical properties in terms of flexural strength, tensile strength,
impact resistance, and hardness.
Uses:
Protection of steel and concrete structures in aggressive environments, i.e.
internal and external protection of pipelines, offshore splash zones, chemical
plants, effluent tanks, etc. Designed for application to small areas and items, or
where spray application is impractical. Also suitable for repair to mechanically
damaged coating and upgrading of below thickness spray applied Acothane TU.

Cl eaner s:
Acothane 380 Solvent or Xylene is a recommended cleaning fluid. Under no
circumstances should solvent be added to paint.

Appl i c at i on:
Normal application requires relative humidity below 80%. To avoid risk of
condensation, application should be done only when the temperature of the steel
surface is at least 3C (5F) higher than the dew point. Application at
temperatures below 1C (33F) must be carefully monitored since the possible
presence of ice on the surface (or in the pores in the case of concrete) will result
in poor performance.

St eel :

Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from contaminants. Grit blast to BS7079
Standard Sa 2.5 to an amplitude of 50-100 microns. Overlap areas should be firm
and well abraded.

Remove all laitence and other contaminants by most appropriate method, i.e.
blast cleaning.

Ensure concrete is dry to protimeter reading of less than 5 on the concrete scale.
Seal with U-Coat 501..
Mi x i ng:
Stir base to ease structure, then add one complete unit of correct activator. Mix
thoroughly, scraping the sides and bottom of the can, then decant into a clean
container and further mix to ensure a uniform blend. Use before pot life expires. In
cold conditions it is recommended that the material temperature is maintained at
approximately 20C (68F) to assist mixing (water entrainment must be avoided).
