FROM THE MINISTER'S DESK
"Pray without ceasing'^IIhess. 5:17)
The old hymn ask the question: "DID YOU THINK
TO PRAY?" And then there is, of course, the
very old saying of "PRAYER CHANGES THINGS."
In a recent article in the CHRISTIAN STANDARD
June Beeman gives a very good reason to pray
daily. We are including this article in our
church paper for those of you who do not get
this very infoimiative church periodical.
It is hoped that by us sharing this with you
we will begin to see results in areas of the
church and in your own lives that will help
us to not only make us better people of
prayer, but to be in better communication
with the Lord on a daily basis.
If you do not have a daily list for prayer -
of those to pray for then may we suggest you
do as June Beeman puts in the article an then
maybe it will help you to develop a prayer
list and and a prayer time.
We have started this at Maili and we hope to
have all of our Sister congregations around
the Island join us and hopefully we can see
the results as we let the Lord work through
us here in Hawaii. Please take time to read
the article and let the Lord lead you to a
greater prayer life.
Aloha In Christ,
Joe Sholtis

A TESTIMONY OF THE "57" VARIETIES MAN
Henry J. Heinz, of the 57 varieties fame,
wrote his will as follows: **Looking forward
to the time when my earthly career will end,
I desire to set forth at the very beginning
of this will,as the most important item in
it, a confession of my faith in Jesus Christ
as my Saviour. I also desire to bear witness
to the fact that throughout my life, in which
were the usual joys and sorrows, I have been
wonderfully sustained by my faith in God
through Jesus Christ. This legacy was left me
by my consecrated mother, a woman of srtong
faith, and to it I attribute any success I
have attained." copied

Greetings in the name
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
It has been some time since we last wrote you and a great many things
have happened since our last letter. We have been really busy and we
pray you will bear with us as we try to get it all in and hope that we
will not -forget anything in the process.
First, we are beginning to see results in the area of our Pre-School-
It has been a long and sometimes frustrating thing, but our prayers
and faith in our Lord that this effort would become reality has paid
off. We thought at first that we were going to have to write to the
mainland to find a teacher. But, our Lord has found us one right here
in our own "backyard" in the person of MISS ZOLA BROWN from our Sunset
Beach School. Zola was a missionary in Africa years ago and came to
Hawaii in 1970 to work with the Sunset Beach Christian School and with
the Waialua Christian Church. She is a very devoted Christian and we
know that the Lord has led her to us here at Maili. Please pray for
us as we work to get the property ready for this school. We must put
up fence in certain areas and get insurance for the church and school.
The insurance -for one year will be about *.^1300.00- This amount will
include fire and liability insurance. If you can help with funds in
these areas, we would certainly appreciate it. Zola has received some
funds to help with the fence and we are looking for additional funds
so we can get our buildings in good shape prior to turning in the
application to get our license. The restrooms need fixing and the
school building needs a new roof. Inside, the ceiling needs
repairs as the rains has cause some buckling there- We know that the
Lord will provide as He wants to see the children in our area learn
about Him and how important it is to be loved by Him. The school will
be a contact also for the church and we are confident that the Lord is
going to bless this effort for others to learn about Him.
Second, many of you know that both Dora and 1 have to work to
ourselves. So, last year 1 changed employers, from Burger
MacDonalds. They opened a new MacDonalds just a few miles from where
we live. The owner asked me if 1 wanted a job there. After a few
days of praying and thinking about it, 1 told him 1 would take it. A
few weeks later 1 was put in charge of the night maintainence crew as
that was the type of work 1 was doing
challenge and has given me a better
fellow workers. Pray that my efforts
the workers are young people c\nd some
support
King to
at Burger King. It is a great
opportunity to witness to my
will prove fruitful. Many of
are already church people. But,
we know that some of them are looking and seeking. We hope and pray
that I can be there to answer any of their questions and invite them
to worship services. Eyeing the head o-f the night maintainence crew
also gives me an opportunity to talk to the men that work with me. We
are the only ones in the restaurant and we talk -freely about many
things. In our conversations we talk about the Lord and our personal
relationship with Him. Many o-f these men have family problems and I
can be there to offer spiritual advise. I pray that it will prove to
be a rewarding effort for Christ and His church.
In other areas of the church here, we are moving right along- The
Bilbe Club is doing real good on Wednesday afternoons. The children
get out of school early on Wednesday here in Hawaii, This gives them
tinier to get home and get their homework done or whatever they have to
do at home before coming to Etible Club at 3:00 P.M, MRS, HLWRIETTA
LLITTRELL is doing a beautiful job in this area. She is going through
a series on "(3rDwing" and the young people are learning to grow up and
how important it is grow up in the Lord.
The Wednesday evening services have been going very well also. We are
going through a series entitled "SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES". 1hey are
very informative and the questions help all of us to either remember
something we may have forgotten or just learn as a new Christian in
the Word", It has been a wonderful learning experience for all of us.
On Sunday evenings we have been going through a study of Did Testa
ment Characters. We took 16 of the most important men of the Old
Testament and study how the Lord used them and what we can learn from
their lives and apply it to ours. This has also been a great
experience as Henrietta and I tee*ch those in attendance about these
fine servants of God and what He did in their lives. And, more
Important, what He can do in our lives if we listen and heed His Word-^
One final note: our Forwarding Agents, SAM KIT FISHER have made
their move and are now in their new location. Bo, if you are sending
any checks, you need to send it to this address: MR. and MRS. SAM
FISHER'S 11734 ROAD 33 1/2; MADERA, CALIFORNIA 9363B. Sam and Kit have
done the best they can in helping our efforts here in Hawaii. We hope
you will write to them and pray for them in their efforts for the Lord
concerning our work here in Maili, Hawaii.
Once again, we want to say MAHALO NUI LOA (Thank you very much) for
all of you who have been praying for our work. We do ask that you
continue to pray for our efforts to win others in the 50th State to
Jesus.
Aloha in Christ,

FROM THE MINISm'S DESK. 77 ELEANORS' ETCHINGS. . .
"And they, continuing daily with one accord in
the teiiiple, and breaking bread from house to
tiouse, did eat their meat- with gladness and
singleness^ of heart, Praising God, and having
favor with all the people. And the Lord added
to the church daily such as should be saved."
Acts 2:46-47
EffiVIVAL is what really went on here as the Lord
sparked people to know \diat they were to have
in their lives. So often we can catch a true
glimpse of what went on in the early church
and what a glorious thing it must have been
after having so many other things happening in
the world. There was so much turmoil that to
have a spiritual experience go on such as this
was more enlisting to every individual that
was involved in the whole days events.
Consider for a moment that the Lord Jesus had
arisen into heaven and now the Apostles are
just waiting for that expected moment of the
arrival of the power that Jesus had promised
them and then all of a sudden as the first
part of the 2nd chapter of Acts relate that
there own revival was about to begin and now
they would turn the world upside down with
their message from the Father in Heaven.
We are about to enter our own revival here in
our area. The AGAPE H meeting will be held
this week, June 14,15,&16, 1989 from 7 to 9PM.
The man preaching this revival is BRO. JOHN
FREDRICKS, a catholic friend who has caused a
revival with in his own church and we hope that
we will be able to see lives changed through
the efforts of this man and some others in our
community. John's own personal goal is to see
every "empty" seat in every church building
filled with people searching for the Love of
Jesus. It is hoped that you who are reading
this will take the time if you live in our
area to stop by and join us in this new experi
ence of just a simple soul searching time and
to see the REVIVAL that we all need and that
was experienced on the day of Pentecost.
Aloha In Christ,
Joe Sholtis
Hi, my name is ELEANOR SHOLTIS and I want to

TWO GREAT EVENTS
The month of June tends to be a month with
so many activities. We have High Schools
having Graduations and many times we have
a lot of parties associated with this event.
Also for some reason many people choose to
get married in June. These are certainly
great events in themselves, but here at Maili
Christian Church we are going to be very
busy for the next two weeks.
FIRST is our Revival this week and that it
is very important that we remind you. It
will start JUNE 14th at 7PM and will run
until JUNE 16th. BRO. JOHN FREDRICKS will
be the Evangelist and we hope that you will
attend the services that are planned.
The times of the services are 7pm to 9pm.
COME EKFECTING A MIRACLE.
Our next big event will take place after
the revival the next week. This will be
our Vacation Bible School to be held June
19 thru 23. We hope that we will have
many of the young people attend this event.
Our Vacatian Bible Schools are a plus for
the fellowship of young people and especi
ally when it comes to learning about the
Master. Our theme for this year is a very
good one: CHAMPIONS FOR JESUS.
We will be needing Cookies and Juice for the
break times and if you can provide these it
would be greatly appreciated. The times for
this are 6:00PM to 8:00PM each evening. We
trust that you will be in prayer for our
VBS as well as our Revival.
We would like to also take this opportunity
to invite you to the other services of the
fellowship here at Maili Christian Church
where Jesus is always present at every
service.

Dear Friends in Christ,
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We are just praising the Lord here at Maili Christian Church these
days. Since our last newsletter we have had a great many things
happen. Our Preschool is still our top priority and we are continuing
to pray that we
to borrow some
using our Lanai
taking out some
the Lanai area and be
area we we would have
the use of the house,
prayers that the bank
a very great need in
encouraged by the
students, we will
will be open before the end of the year. We will have
money from the bank and change our original idea of
(Patio) to moving to our Educational Building. By
walls in this building we will have the same space as
able to pass the building codes- In the Lanai
to put up a firewall which would really restrict
The Lord is blessing us and now we need your
will give us the loan for this effort. There is
this area for a Preschool and the we are being
community leaders to get it started. With 16 to 20
be able to make the monthly loan payments and still
support the school. We covet your prayers in this matter.
In June we had our Vacation Bible School and it was a tremendous
experience for all in attendence. Once again MRS. HENRIETTA LUTTRELL
was in charge and we had help from MISS ZOLA BROWN, AMY S< DAVID KING
and MRS. ROBERTA VELLES and her family. Roberta is one of the newest
members in our church and she is doing a fantastic job of getting many
of our local children to church and to stay for Sunday School. She
has a very enthusiastic program going and we are just thrilled about
the way the Lord is using Roberta and her two children, Paris and
Dutch. Continue to pray for as she is trying to win her family to the
Lord.
WE are also encouraged by the fact that we may be able to start a
Bible Book Store in our area in the future. There is none here at the
present and it has been a goal of mine to see such a store in Waianae.
A local Chinese Restaurant owner is planning to build a Commercial
Center behind his restaurant and will be charging only a monthly lease
rate; not a part of the profits like many other shopping centers do.
So this is another way we hope to witness in the community. There are
some things stopping this man from building at present. But, in
talking with him, he said as soon as the governmental hangups are over
he will start building. I have contacted the people in charge of the
leasing and as soon as they start building, we will see what can be
done about starting a Bible Book Store. We would appreciate your
prayers on this matter also.
Our -family is doing -fine. Our two sons, STEPHAN and JOHN were laid
o-ff -from their jobs- They were working -for a local company here in
Waianae and it ran into some -financial problems. When you are the
last to be hired you are the first to go and five people were laid
off. The boys had been fortunate to find these jobs as it hard to do
in this area but as times change so do the jobs. We ask for your
prayers as they both look for new jobs at the present. Our daughtei-
in-law is working for a local bank and also a clothing store three
nights a week until Stephan can find a job. Dora is still at Burger
King, although they have transferred her back to Waianae which helps
to save gas and wear on the car. Our daughter, ELEANOR is very excited
about being in the 6th grade as Summer was a boring time for her.
However, she kept busy watching the neice and nephew, although she
seemed a little tired of it some times and complained that they did
not listen, but all in all, she enjoyed their company. Our oldest
grandchdaughter is in kindergarten and she is very excited about that.
But her brother, JOHNATHAN, thinks that because he is three he should
be allowed to go to kindergarten, too. We are trying to find a pre-
schoolr somewhere^c1ose, butthey-al l- have-waiti ng l i st . Now, you may
S00 why we want to get our Preschool started to meet the needs of the
community. It will also be a great outreach for the church and the
Lord -
Once again, we want to let you know that our forwarding agents, SAM 8<
KIT FISHER have moved to Madera, California. Their new address is at
the top of this newsletter. Please feel free to send all inquiries to
them about the work we are doing here in Hawaii.
We do want to say MAHALO WUI LOA (thank you so very much) to all who
have helped us in many ways here in our work and especially to those
who have us on their prayer lists. We do serve in a very difficult
field and we need your prayers going up before the Lord to show that
people are concerned about our work in the Hawaiian Islands. If you
want to help in any way, please contact our forwarding agents and let
them know. All and any help will be gratefully appreciated.
Aloha in Christ,
Joe and Dora Sholtis Family
