Product Concept
The MQ Rock Breaker Boom is a hydraulically operated mechanical arm fitted with a hydraulic
breaker. When mounted in close proximity to the primary crusher it allows blockages to be
removed and obstructions to be cleared.
Increased Production and Improved Safety
The installation of an MQ Rock Breaker Boom greatly improves productivity, maintaining
production capacity by preventing the crusher from clogging and averting bridging in
the feeder and jaw. The boom is used to resize oversized material and also to rake
obstructed or bridged material towards the crusher, thus ensuring that the primary
crusher operates at its full capacity at all times. This has significant economic benefits
for the quarry operator as the MQ boom quickly pays for itself in increased production.
Therefore the installation of a MQ boom represents a simple and highly cost-effective
means for a quarry operator to eliminate some of the most hazardous operations found
in the industry. A strong safety policy makes long term business sense.

Static Pedestal
Boom Systems
McQuaid Engineering Ltds range of Static Pedestal Boom Systems are designed
for use on Jaw, Impact, Cone and Gyratory crushers as well as other applications
such as breaking oversized material on the Grizzly.
Our Static Pedestal Boom range consists of 7 models with horizontal reach
of 3m to 7.5m. Manufactured from the highest quality materials to withstand
the toughest of applications, the range is built to ensure safety and
increased production. To date our Pedestal Boom Systems have been
successfully installed by industry leading firms such as Tarmac,
Lafarge, Aggregate Industries, Hanson, Roadstone, Cemex
(Readymix) and Quinn Group.

Selecting the Right Pedestal Boom

Our team of designers are on hand to help you select the correct boom for your application.
When selecting a Pedestal Rock Breaker Boom System you need to consider two key factors,
its Location and the Breaker Size required.
When looking at the Location you need to consider where best the boom can be positioned
so it that it can provide;

MCM4000 mounted on a raised platform

Optimum coverage to break oversized material whilst allowing ability to rake material into the crusher
Operator and service/maintenance personnel accessibility to the boom, pedestal and breaker.
Safe working position for the operator whilst maintaining an optimum view.

The Breaker Size is also an important factor as it affects the efficiency of the boom. You must consider how
often it will be necessary to break oversized material and how hard the material is.

Mobile Boom Systems

The MQ Mobile Boom Systems are specifically designed for mobile crusher applications.
Their compact dimensions enable the boom to remain on the crusher during transport
thus eliminating down-time on site for assembly and disassembly.
By design the mobile boom systems integrate onto ALL makes and models
of mobile crushers. As a general rule the boom systems are powered
directly from the mobile crushers own hydraulic system, therefore
eliminating the need in most cases for a separate hydraulic power supply.

MCM2400FB
The MCM2400FB model Mobile Boom is a variation of the standard MCM2400. It
is ideal for an application whereby integrating extended supporting steelwork onto
the crusher is not an option.
The boom has a lower column in comparison to the standard, allowing
it to fold into a very compact position for transport.

Our Mobile Boom range consists of 8 models with horizontal reach of

1.9m to 5.4m, catering for a large variety of different sizes of mobile
crusher and mounting conditions. To date our Mobile Boom systems have
been successfully installed onto a wide range of mobile crusher makes
and models including; Kleemann, Terex Finlay, Terex Pegson, Extec,
Metso/ Nordberg, Fintec, Hartl-Crushtek, Hartl-Powercrusher, Parker,
Tesab, Gipo and Continental Nord.

MCM2400FB mounted on a Finlay

MCM2400
The MCM2400 model Mobile Boom is lightweight and compact. It is
ideal for integration onto small to medium size mobile crushers. By
design this boom can be mounted close beside the jaw allowing the
boom to be mounted using the crushers existing structural steelwork.
The boom has 2 jibs and operates on a 180 degree slewing system.

Selecting the right Mobile Boom

We can offer a boom system for ALL makes and models of mobile
crusher and our team of engineers are on hand to help you select the
correct boom.

MCM2400 mounted
on a Pegson

Key factors to consider when selecting a mobile boom are the

Transport Requirement, Size of Breaker and Boom Function.
Is there a requirement for the boom to be attached
to the mobile crusher?
What size is the oversized material?
Is the boom required to break material in the feeder
and rake material into the crusher?

ROCK BREAKER BOOM SYSTEMS

MQ Boom System Package

We also offer two remote control options, radio remote and umbilical cable.
Both come with an extremely compact and lightweight yet remarkably robust and
reliable hand unit. The hand unit (as illustrated) permits easy configuration of the
boom functions function speed and function responsiveness can be adjusted
at the touch of a button without alteration to the hydraulic system. The hand unit
also incorporates an accessible stop button.
Importantly the hand held unit gives the operator the freedom to position
themselves where they can best observe the area the breaker is working in at all
times, all while maintaining a safe distance.

At McQuaid Engineering Ltd we offer a complete boom system package to our customers. Along with our
Rock Breaker Boom, we can also supply the Hydraulic Breaker, Hydraulic Power Unit, Operating Controls,
Supporting Platform and Full Installation.
Hydraulic Breakers
We offer the option of supplying a hydraulic breaker with the boom. We can source and supply any make
or model of hydraulic breaker that the customer wishes. It is also possible to use an existing breaker. If the
customer wishes to procure their own beaker or use an existing one, a custom made breaker bracket will be
manufactured and dispatched with the boom and the hydraulic circuit will be appropriately adjusted to ensure
optimum performance.

When supplying a remote control system we generally mount manual controls on

the booms base as a back up to the remote control unit supplied. This allows the
boom to be controlled both manually and remotely.
