transactions of AIBL. 9here are three kinds of foreign exchange transactions-

:redit <LC:=. 9he $art also descri3es vario!s terms !sed in foreign exchange
3!siness like 3ack-to-3ack LC:0 FOB0 !nderstanding0 shi$ment0 LI0 L9" etc.
According to im$ort and ex$ort control act0 1A-+0 the o7cer of the chief
controller of im$ort and ex$ort $rovides the registration <I":= to the im$orter.
After o3taining this0 this $erson has to sec!re a letter of credit a!thoriDation
<L:A= from Bangladesh Bank and then a $erson 3ecomes a 5!ali4ed im$orter. ?e
is the $erson 6ho re5!ests or instr!cts the o$ening 3ank to o$en an LC:. he is
also called o$ener or a$$licant of the credit.
AIBL is an a!thoriDed dealer <A#= to o$erate foreign exchange transaction. Lith
the legal formalities the 3ank serves the c!stomers 6ith ex$ort0 im$ort 8
remittance services. In the $rocess of $roviding remittance service it sells and
3!'s foreign c!rrenc'0 the conversation of one c!rrenc' into another takes $lace
at an agreed rate of exchange 0 6hich than Banker 5!ote one for 3!'ing and

Banking system occupies an important place in a nation's economy A !anking institution is
indispensa!le in a modern society Financial institutions are very much essential for the
overall development of a country "specially !anks play an important role in the field of
promotion of capital# encouragement of entrepreneurship# generation of employment
opportunities etc $arket economy or free economy is %idely used&concept a!out the present
economy of Bangladesh 'he country adopted the concept in the late seventies %ith the
privati(ation of significant num!er of enterprises 'he practices of free market economy
started from the eighties %ith the changing of the %orld economy A num!er of initiatives
%ere taken from the nineties to increase the competition and efficiency in money market#
relaxation of un%anted rules and regulations# improvement of loan related la% and other
situations and improve the financial !ase of the !anks of the country In recent times the
!anking sector over the %orld has !een undergoing a lot of changes due to deregulation#
technological innovation# glo!ali(ation etc Banking sector in Bangladesh is lagging !ehind
