Thebrainconsistsoftwomajorparts;thelefthemisphere,andtherighthemisphere.Theright

Thebrainissoftnervoustissue,andourcognitivefunctionsareinfactthebrainsresponsesto
variousstimulitriggeredbybiochemicalreactionsinthebrain.Neurons,hormones,andother
variousbiologicalprocessesareconstantlyatworkintandemwiththecentralnervoussystem.

Thebrainworksthroughthetransmissionofelectricalsignalsfromoneregiontoanother,
throughthecentralnervoussystemandsubsequentlytoallotherareasofthebody.These
electricalsignalstravelthroughnervecellsandchemicalmessagescalledneurotransmitters.

Aselectricalsignalstraveldownonenervecelltoanothernervecell(oranyothercellforthat
matter)theytriggerthereleaseofneurotransmitters.Theseneurotransmitterstravelthesmall
gap(synapse)betweencells,bindtoaproteinonthereceivingcellmembrane(receptor),and
effectachangeeitherelectrical,chemical,ormechanicalintherecipientcell.

Neurotransmittersandreceptorsworkhandinhandandarespecifictoeachother,verymuch
likealockandkey.Neurotransmittersareessentialbecausetheycaneitherstimulatethe
recipientcelltotriggeraresponse,orinhibitthecellfromstimulation.Thisisespeciallytrue

Workwithsomeoneyouhardlyknow.Besuretoclarifythatthefollowingexerciseismerelya
game,andthattheobjectiveoftheexerciseistoNOTgetemotionalorantagonisticwithone
anotheroverit.Nowusethemasatargetandunleashemotionallychargedremarks,oneata
time.Thepersonyoureworkingwithissupposedtokeepascoolandcalmaspossible,and
provideaverbalresponsetoyouasquicklyastheyreable.Allthatisneededisonesplitsecond
ofclarityamidsttheemotionalturmoil,andafterseveralpractices,youwouldhavegottenthe
hangofit.Oncedone,doarolereversal.

Thisexerciseisbestdoneinaworkshop,becauseyouwouldhavetheopportunitytoobserve
othersperformingtheexercise,andyouwillmostlikelylearnquickerbylearningfromthe
mistakesofothers.Atsomepointduringtheentireexercise,youmayrealizethatmoreoften
thannot,aresponseformedasacalmquestionwilltakeanemotionalindividualoffguard,
becausetheywouldhavetoliterallystopandthinkabouthowtorespond.Theywouldhaveto

However,thinkingfastisnotjustlimitedtowinningarguments.Inalotofemergency
situations,critical,lightningquickthinkingisamatteroflifeanddeath.Imagineifyoufind
yourselfinaburningbuilding,orinvolvedinaterriblecaraccident,oryourebeingrobbedat
gunpoint.Insuchcases,criticalthinkingiskeytoyoursurvival.

Moreoftenthannot,itisnotthesituationthatkillspeopleinsuchcases,butrather,panicis
therealkiller.Peoplehavediedincars,frozentodeathdespitehavingenoughgasintheircar

water,visualizebreathingfromtheshallowairpocketstrappedjustunderthelayerofice.If
youimagineyourselffreefallingfromaplanewithparachutesthatfailtodeploybothyour
primaryandsecondarychutesvisualizeyourselfcarefullyslittingyourpackopensoyoure
abletopulloutthechuteyourself.

Continualvisualizationofdifferentemergencyscenariosandsolutionsforeachoneofthemwill
ingraininyouthelifesavingabilityofcriticalthinking,sowhenyoudofindyourselfinsuch
scenarios,thesolutionwillcomenaturallytoyou,andyouwouldhavesavedyourselforanyone
insuchsituations.Byperfectingthisvisualizationtechnique,youwillbuildtheselfconfidence

Whileitisfineanddandytobementallypreparedfortheunexpected,mostpeopleseektoput
moreeffortintoattuningtheirbraintowardsuccess,especiallyfinancialsuccess.Whilehaving
suchambitionsisnatural,especiallyinthehighlycompetitiveenvironmentweliveintoday,the
verythoughtofwealthshouldnotconsumeusentirely.

Themistakemostpeopletendtomakeistohavethebeliefofmoremoney,noproblem,that
themoremoneytheyaccumulate,thelessproblemstheywouldhavetodealwith.Ifthatwere
true,thenwhyaresomanymillionairesintheworldunhappywiththeirlives?

Youveprobablywitnesseditforyourself;everysooftenwereadaboutmillionairecelebrities
findingthemselvesinbadpress,caughtdoingsomethingembarrassingorunbecomingofa
successfulcelebrity.Despitetheirriches,theyfeeltheneedtovalidatethemselvesthrough

thatitwasasillyendeavorbecausethereisnoguaranteeitwouldwork.
