THE COURTHOUSE COMES ALIVE WITH MUSIC- On Sunday, September 7 at 3 pm,
the courtroom of the Historic Salem Courthouse will come alive with the stunning music of classical
masters. Concert pianist, Daniel Shulman, and concert violinist, Kaori Washiyama, will be the guest
performers. The first of two fall concerts features one of Beethovens most popular instrumental
works, the Kreutzer Sonata for Violin and Piano. On a broad scale unprecedented for its time,
this signature piece of Beethovens, full of fiery display, is characterized by an intense drama, its
novel dance-like finale ( a Tarantella), and a set of contrasting variations of great charm and sophis-
tication. One of the crown jewels of the violin literature and a long favorite with the public, it is a
piece with a curious history that deserves, and will receive preceding the performance, a little
explanation. Also on the program are two substantial works for each of the instruments alone:
Bachs G Minor Sonata for the violin, remarkable for its fully developed harmonies, even when only
implied, as played by the solo violin without the aid of any accompanying parts; and Schuberts
thematically exquisite and finely detailed Sonata for Piano in B Major, music written in his 20
th
year
that in its easy-going manner points the way directly to what has come to be known as the Viennese
style. Tickets for this outstanding performance are $20 ( or $30 for this concert and the September

Due to the construction project in the village, we have had to make a change in the
location of the Arts and Crafts that is usually held in Juckett Park. This year the arts and
crafts will be held on the grounds of the Zion Episcopal Church on Main St., just north of
the village hall.
A sincere thanks to Rev. Richard Chandler and the members of the Zion Episcopal
Church for allowing us to use their grounds.
There will be no fireworks display this year. The committee had to make a difficult
decision in regards to the fireworks. Since there will be no lighting in the area where most
people view the fireworks display, it was decided that the safety of the spectators was a
major concern and therefore no fireworks this year. Watch out for 2015- we hope to be able
to make up for the lack of fireworks in 2014.
Paris Park will have carnival rides, games and food vendors in addition to the entertain-
ment.
The arts & crafts venue will feature local artisans, food vendors and entertainment.
The Hudson Falls Police Department along with other local law enforcement agencies
will be holding various demonstrations from 12-5 on Saturday in front of village hall. Be
sure to stop and check out the seatbelt simulators, rollover demonstration, get your
childrens IDs and much more.
All of the proceeds from Sandy Hill Days goes back into the community. Last year we
were able to provide scholarships to Hudson Falls graduating seniors totaling $3,500.00.
Another $1,800.00 went to various organizations within the community- Boy Scouts, Fire
Department, Rescue Squad, Washington County Childrens Committee, Toys for Tots,
Hudson Falls Police Benevolent Association, Operation Santa Claus, Cornerstone Soup
Kitchen and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
Also the committee is looking for new members. Meetings are the 1st Thursday of each
month from February through September at 7 pm in village hall. In order to keep Sandy Hill
Days alive, we need new young members. If anyone is interested, please come to a
meeting or stop and chat with a member during the event.
Please come out and support the 29th annual Sandy Hill Days event on Friday, Sept. 5th
and Saturday, Sept. 6th so that we can continue to support the organization and citizens
of our great community.

HUNTER EDUCATION SUPER WEEKEND- Cornell
Cooperative Extension of Warren County, in partnership with DEC
Sportsman Education volunteer instructors, will be organizing a Hunter
Education Classes on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday,
September 14th. The following classes are being offered each day;
Sportsman Education, Bow Hunter Education, or Trapper Education
(you may choose ONE class per day, bow hunter students must have
completed hunter education previous to registering for bow hunter
education). Those who have completed online training MUST pre-
register and must bring their printed certificate of completion with
them to class. They do not need to pick up the books. All classes are
free and open to the public (ages 11 and up). Classes will be held from
8:30 am - 4:30 pm at Pack Forest in Warrensburg. All courses are
"Home Study" courses, materials MUST be picked up at the CCE
Education Center, 377 Schroon River Road, Warrensburg by August
28th at 4:30pm. The CCE office is open 8:30 am 4:30 pm Monday
through Thursday. The workbook section of the bow hunter and hunter
education courses must be completed for students to gain entry into
the class. Lunch will be available to purchase for $7.00 and will include
either (2) Hamburgers or (2) hot dogs with chips and a drink. Pre-
registration is required by August 29th. Registration is done online

ADIRONDACK VOICES TO BEGIN REHEARSALS. The

THE PAINTINGS OF D. STEVENS BURGESS. The artwork of
Salem artist, D. Stevens Burgess, is currently on display in the first
floor Benn Room of the Salem Courthouse Community Center and
will remain on view through the month of September. Stevens was
born in New Delhi, India and studied art in Bangkok, Thailand and
New York. His exhibit contains 17 works focusing on land, water and
the natural world. His studies are creations of his own imagination,
and he no longer uses points of reference in any of his pieces. His
tones are subtle, and his paintings draw the viewer into the landscape
in a most relaxing manner. Stevens has exhibited his work in several
area galleries with this being his third exhibit at the CCC. The Benn
room is handicap accessible and open to the public.
