When we released our router plane in September of 2005, we could not have imagined that
we would eventually produce ve different models yet here we are, introducing our newest,
the medium router plane (page 5). With only a slightly larger footprint than the small router
plane, it uses the same square-shanked blades as the large router plane (and the hinge mortise
plane), which is why it will be the rst plane we have offered with the option of buying it with
a blade, or without for those who already have the larger version.
Also of note is the recent migration of the Lee Valley Library App to platforms using the

operating system, in addition to the version already compatible with Apple devices
such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod . This app lets you download our catalogs for browsing ofine,

Precision Square
This could easily become the most-
used measuring tool in your shop.
An ideal size for cabinetmaking, it
has the accuracy of an engineers
square (0.001 per inch of length). All four edges
are ground, and both faces are graduated on the
inside and outside edges. The Imperial square is
graduated in 32nds on the 3 leg and in 16ths on
the 6 leg; the metric version is graduated in half
millimetres on the 8cm leg and in millimetres on
the 15cm leg. Each is useful not only for general
layout and checking whether surfaces are at or
straight, but also for machine set-up, since it lets
you measure and check for square on the same
plane. The chrome-plated high-carbon steel legs
can be marked with pencil for direct-reference

Precision made in our own
machine shop, these chisels are
milled from PM-V11 steel (Rc61-
63), an innovative proprietary
alloy. This metals micro-structure
makes it extremely durable, so it
can withstand the impact of heavy
chopping cuts without chipping or
deforming as readily as other tool steels,
even at bevel angles as low as 20.
Highly wear resistant, the edge typically
lasts at least twice as long in use as an A2
blade before it needs sharpening, yet its as
easy to sharpen as A2 steel using common
abrasive media such as water stones. Our
chisel blades taper from shoulder to tip for
strength and rigidity, and have parallel sides and
true bevel edges for clearance and minimal fric-
tion when working into an angled corner or a tight
recess. To ensure that the face of each blade is both
smooth and true, the chisels are lapped at.
The blade and handle are connected with a tang and a
socket-like stainless-steel ferrule that seats directly
onto the shoulder of the blade. Flats on the tang prevent
the handle from rolling. Each chisel is superbly

and hinge mortise plane. It has ten labelled

Medium Router Plane

Slightly larger than our small router plane, this
tool has the advantage of using the same blades as
our full-size router plane, letting you use the
complete range of blade sizes we offer*. For
general use, the blade may be positioned inboard
with the sole encircling it for maximum registra-
tion on the workpiece, even when approaching
from the side or working an edge. This allows it
to bridge recesses, providing great stability even
on narrow stock. The blade can also be used in an
outboard conguration, with the blade extending
past the body, for bullnose applications.
The blade-clamping knob uses a wave washer to
hold the blade as it is loosened, for easy, controlled
depth adjustment. An included stainless-steel
depth-stop collar locks onto the blade shaft to limit

Repair Glue and Powder

The advantage of this cyanoacrylate glue is that it offers you complete
control over when it begins curing, giving you all the time you need to
prepare and position the parts. The curing process doesnt begin until you
drive the air out of the joint joining the parts under nger pressure is
enough to initiate this. Most materials bond within a few seconds to half a
minute; some materials may take a few minutes to form a strong bond. The
glue has the consistency of thin syrup so it can ow into cracks, and dries
clear to make repairs almost invisible. All joints achieve maximum
strength within 24 hours. Not recommended for joining porous materials,
polyethylene or polypropylene plastics, or Teon
.
Supplied with the adhesive, the silica-based welding powder is used for
gap lling. Apply alternating thin layers of glue and powder to solidify the
glue within seconds, building up a tough patch that can be sanded, drilled or
painted. The powder also helps to bulk up joints for added strength.
A versatile adhesive, sold as a set containing 10ml of glue and 10ml of
silica powder. The formula ensures that the glue wont ash-cure in the
bottle, so a little goes a long way.

instrument while the glue sets, this tape is conve-
nient for a much wider range of tasks. It is similar to
conventional masking tape, but has slightly greater

ties make it a practical alternative when gluing
small, delicate projects, or shapes that are tricky to

superior gap-lling characteristics due to its high
solids content. Its high viscosity reduces joint
starving and virtually eliminates staining. Any
squeeze-out remains on the surface where it can
be fully removed, avoiding any problems when a
nish is applied later. When dry, its light brown
color is hidden at joint seams, yet is easy to spot
should any excess get elsewhere. With an open
time of 15 to 20 minutes and a clamping time of
30 to 90 minutes (depending upon application),
it can be worked after 4 hours and reaches full
strength after 24 hours. Sure to become your

Modular Storage Cases

These are among the best modular insert storage cases weve found.
Their removable internal bins can be arranged in various congura-
tions and allow easy access to contents; you can simply lift a bin out
and tip the contents into your palm. Grid patterns on the bottom and
lid of the case interlock with the bins so they wont shift during trans-
port even if a few are missing. The transparent top lets you nd what
you want easily, and ts snugly to help prevent contents from mixing
when the case is tipped. The lid has recesses that accept the feet of a
case of the same type (economy or professional) to make stacked
cases more stable.
The economy case is made of sturdy polypropylene, with a lid that
latches securely with two clips and a molded-in carrying handle.

Double-Acting Sprayer

detailing companies and
window cleaners, this type
of sprayer has a double-
acting piston that sprays on
both the squeeze and release
of the trigger, making it
more efcient and less tiring
to use. The German-made model we found has a
contoured neck and trigger that t comfortably
in your hand. A translucent window on the side
shows the uid level, with markings to help you
mix solutions right in the bottle. It has a brass
nozzle insert and a rubber gasket, resistant to
mild household cleaners. It is not suitable for use
with acidic solutions including dilute vinegar.
The spray can be adjusted from a ne mist to a

this metal polish is effective on a wide range of

good job on dirt, grease and bug spots. The ne
absorbent bers make short work of stains on

Made from citrus extracts, this concentrated biode-
gradable cleaner dissolves stuck-on gum and tar, and
removes stains left by grease, oil, ink and lipstick, to
mention only a few. Useful for removing label and
sticker glues (great when removing price tags from
presents), as well as pine sap or bugs from a wind-
shield. While some natural cleaning products are more
well-intentioned than effective, this one really works.
It even has a pleasant citrus scent. Can be diluted with
water for lighter duties or used undiluted for heavier

Wash Brush & Pole
Getting the right tools for scrubbing siding,
softs and the inside and outside of green-
houses can be difcult, but this ow-through
pole and choice of brushes do the job admi-
rably. The aluminum telescoping pole extends
from 54 to 96 (which gives an effective reach
of 13 to 14) and locks in any position. It comes
with an on/off ow-control valve. With a hose
connected, water can ow through the pole and
out the middle of the brush head. Two styles of
8 wide brushes are available a regular brush
and a soft-bristle brush. Regular stiffness would
be used for most jobs except vehicle washing,
where the soft-bristle style works wonders.
