Leonardo da Vinci
Overview of Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was a man of the Renaissance time
period. He painted the Mona Lisa. He also was a skilled
architect. He was a vegetarian because he wouldnt eat
anything that was once alive. Leonardo Da Vinci was a
skilled man. He sketched many of pictures. Leonardo da
Vinci also sketched many self portraits of himself. Da
Vinci was a weapons designer too.[1] He designed the
first and working armored tank. He sketched a war
chariot. Da Vinci like lots of people wanted to know how
things worked.[4]Da Vinci designed an early type of
submarine. Leonardo da Vinci lived from 1452-1519.
Renaissance means the time of rebirth. Where people
who forgot how curious became curious again.
Leonardo da Vinci was curious about life and everything
came into balance. So he started designing objects that
worked in an odder way than objects worked in his time
period. He was 100 years smarter than his time period.
[8]

Leonardo da Vinci's Life as a Young Man

Leonardo was born April 15 1452 in Vinci. His father
and mother never married. He was apprenticed to an
artist named Andrea del Verrocchio when he was 15.
In 1472 he was accepted into the painters guild of
Florence. He remained with Verrocchio for 5 more
years in which he sketched out in pen or pencil things
such as weapons and inventions.[2] In 1478 The
Annunciation was painted. Originally it was credited
to da Vinci it is now credited to Lorenzo de Credi.
And in 1481 he started The Adoration of The
Magi.[3] In 1482 he moved to Milan to work for the
duke. Strangely enough he left with an unfinished
painting and some that never began. He stayed in
Milan for 17 years. While in Milan he completed 6
works. For example he painted The Virgin of The
Rocks during that time. Also The last Supper was
commissioned then. [2] From left to right here are the
people in it; Bartholomew, James Minor, Andrew,
Judas (holding a small bag, possibly of silver?), Peter
(holding knife), John (not a woman), Christ, Thomas,
James Major, Philip, Matthew, Thaddeus and Simon.
[5] During this time he decided he would sculpt a
giant bronze horse for the duke of Milan. This
enormous sculpture was never finished. In a war with
the French the bronze for the sculpture was melted
down to make cannons. [2]

What Leonardo's life was as a child?
He was born in 1452. He was born to unmarried
parents. His name wasn't Leonardo da Vinci. His real
name was Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. If
Leonardo da Vinci was his name it would mean
Leonardo of Vinci. Vinci is a place in Florence, Italy.

What was in Leonardos books?
If you respect Leonardo da Vinci mainly for his
contributions to science, you will undoubtedly
appreciate Leonardo's books. It comprises all of his
drawings and notes on human anatomy, fetal
anatomy, and the position of organs within the human
body. It also covers Leonardos comparative anatomy
studies, including his dissection and examination of
certain animals in order to compare them to the
human species.

The Bronze Horse
Once completed, the horse was to stand 24 feet high.
Da Vinci, an expert perfectionist, spent years making
sketches. Then, Leonardo sculpted a full-size clay
model. Later, Leonardo was set to cast it in bronze.
The French army was a threat, because bronze was
needed to build. French used his clay model just as
target practice! Then, a retired American pilot was
fascinated by the story of the bronze horse, and
founded an organization that would finish the
Leonardo Da Vinci sculpture. [5].In 1999, the statue
was unveiled the 24 foot bronze horse in Milan, Italy,
and a month later, a second statue was unveiled in
Grand Rapids, Michigan, bringing Da Vincis beloved
sculpture to be loved all over! Leonardo you would
think he got taught by someone right. Well your
wrong Leonardo taught himself when he knew
nothing. When he was 14 he moved to Florence and
joined the renaissances. Leonardo da Vinci was into
framework, zoology, botany, geology, optics,
aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. But Leonardo is
mostly known for study of framework, zoology,
geology, and botany. [6]

Leonardo's inventions
Giant Crossbow
This is one of Leonardo's war inventions. You would
think it shoots giant crossbows right. NO! It shoots
stones and flaming bombs. You wouldnt pull
anything to make it shoot. You would use a mallet to
knock a pin holder out of place. Then, it will shoot.
However, this weapon wasnt used to fight! It was
used to make the enemy flee. Leonardo always had a
brilliant mind. [7]

Leonardo da Vinci's Cannon
Leonardo da Vinci created the first ever cannon. Da
Vinci created lots of inventions but none that could
blow through walls or shoot a ten pound ball soaring
through castle walls and maybe keep going. As a
military engineer, one of Leonardo da Vinci's key
beliefs was that mobility was crucial to victory on the
battlefield. This idea is seen in his triple barrel
cannon invention. [10]
