2014 Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association Conference
The First Coast Section of APA Florida will be the Host for the 2014 APA
Florida Annual Conference to be held September 3-6 at the Hyatt Regency
Jacksonville Riverfront.
With our landscape rapidly diversifying and energy in downtown picking up
steam, this years conference theme, Plan In Motion, says it all. Primary focus
areas for the conference include historic preservation and revitalization,
economic development, sustainability, infrastructure, water resources, and
professional development. In total, there will be nearly 70 sessions and
workshops spanning 7 conference tracks.
Furthermore, this event will be held in conjunction with the Southeastern
Planning Students Conference, attracting students from planning programs in 9
states and seamlessly integrated with Downtown Jacksonvilles First
Wednesday Art Walk, Community First Saturday, and Riverside Arts Market.
In addition, nine mobile workshops are planned, highlighting Farm-to-Table Agri-
Planning, the historic cities of St. Augustine and Fernandina Beach, the St. Johns
River, preservation and revitalization efforts in the urban core and beach
communities, and economic development issues involving Naval Air Station
Jacksonville.

Keynote speakers are Governor Ed Rendell, two term Governor of Pennsylvania
and former Mayor of Philadelphia; Brent Toderian, MCIP, an internationally
respected leader of city planning, founder of TODERIAN UrbanWORKS and
former Vancouver, BC Chief Planner (2006-2012); and William Anderson,
FAICP, Executive Director and CEO of National APA. Other speakers include
Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown, who will provide an update on downtown
revitalization and economic development and J. Benjamin Warner of the
Jacksonville Community Council Inc. (JCCI)

The closing session will feature an expert panel, Lisa Rinaman, of the St. Johns
Riverkeeper; Brian Taylor, CEO of JAXPORT; and Eric Bush, U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers Chief of Planning and Policy, discussing the environment and the
economy.

The American Planning Association and its professional institute, the American Institute of
Certified Planners, are organized to advance the art and science of planning and to foster the
activity of planning - physical, economic, and social - at the local, regional, state, and national
levels. The objective of the Association is to encourage planning that will contribute to public
well-being by developing communities and environments that meet the needs of society more
effectively. The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association serves APA members in
the state, and is the state-level resource for networking and professional development. The
