"Button Up Video Contest 2014" Official Rules

General
The BUTTON UP VIDEO CONTEST 2014 (the Contest) is sponsored by Capstone
Community Action (Sponsor).
By participating in the Contest, each Contestant (and his/her parent or legal guardian)
unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and
the decisions of the Sponsor, which will be final and binding.
Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any Contestant who it
believes has failed to follow these Official Rules.
There is no entry fee.
Capstone Community Action reserves the right to alter, amend, clarify, or interpret these
rules at any time as it may deem necessary.
Who can enter?
Unless provided otherwise, the contest is open to anyone with no restriction regarding
age or place of residence. However, minors (under 18) participation is subject to parent
or guardian approval.
Videos may be submitted by individuals or by teams. However, whether the project is an
individual or team effort, it must be submitted under only one name and that individual
will be the Lead Producer. Any submissions made by a team shall include, whether
stated explicitly or not, that the Lead Producer has the authority to grant any licenses or
rights to Sponsor contained in these rules on behalf of the entire team. Team members
may be any age, but the category for award will be based on the age of the Lead
Producer.
There is no limit to the number of entries an individual may be involved with.
Employees, officers and directors of Sponsor, and each of their dependents and
immediate family members and individuals residing in the same household of each
(whether or not related), are not eligible to participate.
What are the tech requirements?
Videos can be no more than two-minutes long
Maximum video size is 200 MB.
Videos must be uploaded in one of these three digital formats (.mp4, .mov, .flv).
Contestants may use a video camera, camera, computer, smartphone or tablet to produce
videos.

What should be in the video?
Entries must clearly focus on the theme of Button Up as used in the context of the contest
description.
Videos may be animated, live action, musical, or documentary-style.
Production credits are not required to be included in the video, but will be part of the
online registration form.
How, when, and where do you enter?
Contestants must fill out and submit the online entry form, which will be available
through this site starting September 2, 2014. Incomplete entry forms will disqualify
entries.
Entries must be uploaded directly through the official contest site on or after 12:01 a.m.
Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on September 2, 2014 and must be received by 11:59 p.m.
EDT on October 19, 2014.
If Lead Producer is under the age of 18 at the time of submission, then they must submit
a completed and signed Parent/Guardian Permission Form at the time of entry to the
satisfaction of the Sponsor to be considered eligible to win a prize. Failure to do so will
result in disqualification. The form will be posted on the Contest site.
Lead Producers must also have permission of any individual (or, if the individual is under
18, his/her parent/legal guardian) who is identifiable in the video to submit the
individuals likeness, persona, or voice to the Contest. At the time of entry, Lead
Producers must submit a completed and signed Actor Release Form for each person who
is identifiable in the video to the satisfaction of the Sponsor to be considered eligible to
win a prize. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. The form will be posted on the
Contest site.

Contestants shall retain ownership of their film, however by submitting to this contest
shall grant Sponsors a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use, reproduce, distribute, and
modify all submissions as explained below.
Sponsor reserves the right to verify the eligibility of any Contestant.
How will videos be judged?
Videos will be judged in three categories:
Most humorous
Most likely to spur action
Most informative
Each category will have prizes for three age groups: 1) Students in 8
th
grade or younger, 2)
students in 9-12
th
grade, and 3) adults.
There will be a total of nine Judges Choice Awards: one for each age group in every
category. Judges can also select an unlimited number of Honorable Mentions from the videos
entered.
Judges Choice prizes awarded to Vermont residents only, however all entries will be eligible
for Honorable Mentions.
Judges Choice and Honorable Mentions will make up the pool of candidates eligible for the
Peoples Choice award to be selected through social media.
Entries can be by individuals or collaborative groups. All submissions will be considered for
all three categories.
Entries will be pre-screened by a designated committee to select the finalists for the
Judging Panels consideration.
Judging will take place between October 21 and October 25, 2014.
The Judging Panel will be picked from those with expertise in the fields of education,
weatherization & efficiency, marketing, media, and other related professions.
Judges will base their decisions on the following criteria: 1) Clear and compelling message
related to the theme, 2) Memorable content and delivery, and 3) Creativity
Nine winners will be selected and will be notified of their selection during the week of
October 26, 2014. Winners will be selected at the sole discretion of the Sponsor.
Judges Choice and Honorable Mentions will be announced on or before October 31,
2014.
Social media voting for Peoples Choice will begin in early November and last
throughout the month. The Peoples Choice winner will be announced in December.
Judges may not understand languages other than English.
What are the benefits and prizes?
All of the videos submitted will be available for public viewing on the contest site. In
addition, videos may be shared through social media channels, screened at meetings,
conferences, and festivals, or broadcast on public access or commercial outlets.
Peoples Choice: The one winner for this award receives a $300 cash prize. The pool for
the Peoples Choice award will be made up of all Judges Choice and Honorable
Mentions.
Judges Choice: School-age winners will receive a Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream party for
their class (or comparable for home schoolers). Adult winners will receive a $100 cash
prize.
Honorable Mentions receive a letter of accomplishment from Capstone.
Judges Choice prizes awarded to Vermont residents only, however all entries will be
eligible for Honorable Mentions. Entries that earn those distinctions will make up the
pool for the Peoples Choice award.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the Lead Producer only. Participants can choose to divide
the prize on their own terms if they wish.

No-No Rules include the following:
Videos must not contain any material that is an infringement of any third partys
intellectual property rights.
Use of images, music, and other works in the public domain may be incorporated into
videos.
No copyrighted materials (music, images, etc.) may be used for this contest unless you
own the copyright or have a license to use the material for this contest. Written
permission must be obtained and provided upon request for all copyrighted materials.
Videos must not contain promotion of any specific product brands.
Videos entered in other contests are eligible, providing the contestant has the authority to
submit it to this Contest.
Content must comply with all local and national laws of the country of origin and the
United States. Content must not 1) promote illegal behavior; 2) support racial, religious,
sexual or other invidious prejudice; 3) advocate sexual or violent exploitation; 4) violate
rights established by law or agreement; 5) invade the privacy of any person; 6) promote
bigotry, racism, hatred, or harm against any group or individual; or 7) be otherwise
inappropriate as determined by Sponsor in its sole and conclusive determination.
Videos must not contain material that is indecent, obscene, pornographic, hateful,
defamatory, slanderous, libelous, objectionable, or otherwise lacking in taste or quality in
the views of the judges.
Perpetual License and Reproduction
Contestants shall retain ownership of any works submitted to this contest.
Contestants grant the Sponsor the perpetual right to use, reproduce, reprint, distribute,
and/or display their videos without notification, compensation, or additional attribution to
Contestant.
Contestants grant the Sponsor the non-exclusive, perpetual right to use their names,
school names, grade levels (e.g., freshman, sophomore, junior, senior), photographs,
statements, quotes, testimonials, and video submissions for advertising, publicity, and
promotional purposes without notification, compensation, or additional attribution to
Contestant.
Contestants grant the Sponsor the non-exclusive, perpetual right to produce and market
objects, works, products and services premised upon the ideas, themes and/or concepts in
submitted videos without notification, compensation, or additional attribution to
Contestant.
The Contestant grants Sponsor the non-exclusive, perpetual right to reproduce, reprint,
distribute, and/or display the Contestants videos for any legal purpose including but not
limited to advertising, publicity, and promotional purposes on its website, at conferences,
or at any other venues or in any medium or method of transmission, without notification,
compensation, or additional attribution to Contestant.

Contestants grant the Sponsor the non-exclusive, perpetual right to use any concepts,
ideas, dialogue, or images as Sponsor sees fit including, but not limited to, adopting such
concepts into new material. Such use shall not require notice, compensation, or
additional attribution to Contestant.
Liability and Finality
Contestants should keep at least one copy of their video. Sponsor is not responsible for
any videos that are lost, damaged, or that do not upload properly.
Contestants agree to indemnify and hold the Sponsor harmless against any and all claims
and liability arising out of the Contest.
By accepting the prizes, Winners agree to indemnify and hold the Sponsor harmless
against any and all claims and liability arising out of use of such prizes.
Contestants assume all liability for any injury or damage caused from participation in the
Contest or use/redemption of any prize.
If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including, due to
infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical
failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect the
administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, Sponsor
reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, suspend or extend the
Contest and, in the event of any termination or cancellation, select winners from among
all eligible, non-suspect entries received prior to the termination or cancellation.
