LEARNINGOBJECTIVES:
Theaimofthiscourseistoprovidethestudentwithaclearpresentationofthetheoryandapplicationofthe
principles of microelectronic engineering and to develop students ability to analyze problems based on the
understanding of its basic concepts, such the nature of noise, noise temperature, noise factor and S/N ratio,
types and sources of electrical noise; thermal noise, shot noise, flicker noise, white noise. Shielding; against
capacitive and inductive coupling, RF shielding, EMI and RFI shielding materials. Safety and signal ground,
practical grounding. Noise in BJTs, in FETs and in ICs. Sources of digital noise; crosstalk noise, power supply
noise,chargesharingnoise,leakagenoise.

Classroomlectures:Thetheoreticalfundamentalsforthreehoursaweek
Classroom problem solving sessions : The solution methods of the related problems for one hour a week are
given.

Elements of hypothesis testing, Bayesian, minimax, NeymanPearson and composite hypothesis testing
methods. Signal detection in discrete time, sequential detection, nonparametric and robust detection. Least
squares, maximum likelihood, MAP and Bayesian parameter estimation. Detection and estimation of known
signals in white and colored Gaussian noise. Multiuser detection, optimum multiuser detector, decorrelating
detector,nondecorrelatinglinearmultiuserdetection,decisiondrivendetectors.
