Basic Wireless Questions
How do I turn on the Wireless feature in the DSL Modem with Wireless Gateway (Model
#GT701-WG)?
1. Access the web interface of the router by typing http://192.168.0.1, into the
address bar of Internet Explorer.
2. Click on Setup/Configuration on the Main page.
3. On the left hand panel, click Advanced Setup.
4. Then click on the Begin Advanced Setup button.
5. On the left hand panel click Wireless Settings.
6. In the Wireless Settings page, click the radio button next to On.
7. Click Next.
8. Then Save and Restart at the bottom of the left hand panel.
9. Click the Save and Restart button on the next page to reboot your DSL Modem.
10. Once the Modem reboots, the Wireless LED should be green.

I set up my wireless, but I can't connect. What should I do?
Many times just changing the Channel and or changing the ESSID of the Modem can fix this
issue. You can only change the channel from the web interface (i.e. going to
http://192.168.0.1) and clicking on setup and advanced setup. For more detailed information
please look on page 63 of the Modem manual located on your installation disk.

How do I set my wireless channel?
1. On a computer connected to the Modem, open a Web browser and enter

http://192.168.0.1 in the Address text box.
2. When the Main Menu screen appears, select Setup/Configuration.
3. When the Set Up/Configuration screen appears, select Advanced Setup.
4. In the next screen, click Begin Advanced Setup.
5. When the Configuring the Advanced Settings screen appears, select Wireless
Settings.
6. In the Wireless Settings screen, enter the channel desired in the Channel text box.
7. When finished, click Save and Restart.

What is the preferred channel?
The preferred channel on the Modem is 9. However, if there is interference on Channel 9 try
channels 6 or 11.

Which speeds does the DSL Modem with Wireless Gateway (Model #GT701-WG) support?
The Modem supports 11 Mbps using 802.11b and 54 Mbps using 802.11g.

Yes, the DSL Modem with Wireless Gateway can communicate with 802.11b or 802.11g
wireless adapters, because the 802.11g standard is backward compatible with 802.11b. You
can program your Modem to communicate on just one of the standards or both.

6. In the Wireless Settings screen activate On (next to Wireless), and enter the ESSID
and Channel values in the appropriate text boxes.
7. At the bottom of the screen, activate WEP (next to Security).
8. The Wireless Settings: WEP Key screen appears. Activate Key 1, then select the type
of WEP (64 bits, 128 bits, 265 bits).
9. Make a WEP key, see below for instructions.
10. Then, click Save and Restart.

How do I make a HEX based WEP key?
1. 64bit - Generated as 10 alphanumeric characters (0-9, a-f)(example: 843c29a562)

7. At the bottom of the screen, activate WEP+802.1x (next to Security).
8. When the Wireless 802.1x Security Settings screen appears, enter the IP address of
the RADIUS server in the Server IP Address text box, and the Secret key (for
communication between the RADIUS server and the Router) in the Secret text box.
The Port and Group Key Interval values should remain the same.
9. Then, click Save and Restart.

7. At the bottom of the screen, activate WPA (next to Security).
8. The Wireless WPA Settings screen appears. There are two levels of WPA. Actiontec
recommends that you use PSK (Pre-Shared Key). The Group Key Interval, Server IP
Address, Port, and Secret text boxes, along with the 802.1x radio button, are
enterprise network specific, and should only be accessed by experienced information
systems professional.
To set up a PSK (Pre-Shared Key):
1. Click in the circle next to PSK String.

2. Then enter at least eight alphanumeric characters in the text box.
Note: All wireless-enabled devices must support WPA and know the PSK to join the
network.
Wireless MAC Address Authentication -

5. When the Configuring the Advanced Settings screen appears, select Wireless MAC
Authentication.
6. When the Wireless MAC Authentication screen appears, activate Enable Access List,
and then activate Accept all Clients or Deny all Clients.
7. Enter the MAC address of the client you want to deny (if you activated Accept all
Clients) or of the client that you want to accept (if you activated Deny all Clients) in
the Client MAC Address text box, and click Add.
8. The MAC address appears in the Exception List text box.
9. Repeat for another wireless client.

Plugging in an Ethernet hub or switch can expand the number of computers that is connected
to the DSL Modem. Run a standard Ethernet cable from the UPLINK port of your new hub or
switch to Yellow Port on the back of the DSL Modem.

NAT (Network Address Translation) is a level of security, which masks the private IP
addresses of the PCs on your network with a single public IP address. With NAT the private
IP address of any PC on your network is never transmitted over the Internet.

Press and hold the reset button on the back of the Modem for 15 seconds. This will reset the

Select Start, Run, and type "winipcfg". Press Enter.
When the winipcfg screen is displayed, ensure your network device is selected.
