1) a) Discuss the statement that two mutually exclusive events need not be equally likely by
suitable example.
b) Enlist the Basic properties of Probability also narrate the characteristics of Binomial
Distribution.
2) A husband and wife appear in an interview for two vacancies in the same post. The
probability of husbands selection is 2/7 and that of wifes selection is 1/5 what is the
probability that
a) Both of them will be selected.
b) None of them will be selected
3) a) Ten passengers have made reservations for an airplane flight. If the probability that a
passenger who has a reservation will show up is 0.08. What is the probability that exactly 6
will show up?
b) A class contains 20 men and 30 women of which half of the men and half of the women
have brown eyes. Find the probability that a person chosen at random is a woman or has
brown eyes.
4) The incidence of occupational disease in an industry is such that the workmen have
20% chance of suffering from it. What is the probability that out of 6 workmen.
(i) Exactly 4 (ii) not more than 2 and (iii) 4 or more will catch the disease?
5) Is there any inconsistency in the statement that the mean of the binomial distribution is 20
and its standard deviation is 4? If no inconsistency is found what shall be the values of p,q
and n.
