Annual Magazine
2011-12

If its H6. Life ROCKS!!!
Vibrancy and liveliness marking their presence, youthful energy filling your
spirits, and a smile on each face you come across, welcome to life @ Hostel
6. With the echo of sophomores crowned with freedom and final year
looking their best in formals, the voyage of another happening year started,
just to end up with priceless memories.
Getting up late, gobbling the breakfast, rushing to classes, finding an excuse
to make someone bakra for treat, endless downloading from LAN , that
scream after head shot in CS, shitty talks with your best friends, GDs on
most irrelevant issues on Earth, assignments just before the deadlines,
running in corridors screaming minors postponed, knowing the actual
syllabus only in exam rooms, playing cards late till night, the famed link-
ups, the leg pulling, those birthday bumps, dozens dancing in a stuffy
stinking single room to celebrate anything under the sun- from break ups to
job offers, the joy, the relief , the satisfaction of getting a job and the pit
forming in the stomach when our friend doesnt make the cut, the first love
and last goodbyes to all these, walls of H6 would always be witness of your
dreams, aspirations, failures and achievements. There is nothing other than
the fact that the things we detested would be among the things that we would
talk about in the future with a twinkle in our eyes and a smile on our lips.
Wonderful memories, that's what we're building,
Things to think about when we get old...
And have nothing more to do than sit and think,
They'll be the sweetest stories ever told!

Its a matter of great pleasure to see the annual Hostel Magazine titled Mega-
gene published. I congratulate Mr Jatinder Kumar and his team for bringing out
such a holistic magazine that highlights the talent and creativity of students. Such
initiatives give students an edge over others and provide experience beyond the
books. No doubt Mega-gene contributes another feather to our silver jubilee
celebrations!
I once again appreciate the efforts of students and hope that this would help them
to relish the memories of their stay and take the next stride forward.
My best wishes to the Mega-gene and all of you!

Dr. Samir Kumar Das
DIRECTOR

As earth completes another revolution around the sun; its my pleasure to
introduce the second edition of Megagene - gene of the mega minds, the annual
magazine of Hostel 6. Hostel magazine has always been a testimony of various
facets of the life of inmates and radiates an aura of reminiscence associated with
days within and beyond the walls. It not only manifests the flair and forte of
students but also highlights their activities and achievements. In brief, its H6 in
silver screen!
This academic year saw NITJs biggest Intra-Hostel Sports tournament-
Carpedium12 touching new heights with successful organization of first ever
Tug-of-War and athletic competitions by any hostel. H6 can also boast of its
unique photography and literary competitions to promote all round development
of its inmates. In context of infrastructure, new badminton and volleyball courts
besides fully automatic washing machines have been dedicated to the hostellers.
Very shortly we would be having hostel library, coffee machine and music
system in mess to cater the needs of students. What more, H6 is also the first
hostel to launch its own website!
To my dear students, the message I would like to give is to reiterate the words of
Margaret Thatcher, Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end.
It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing, it's when you've had
everything to do and you've done it. Hardly anyone knows who is the second
person to step on moon, climb Mount Everest or reach poles; world worships the
best. So strive for unparalleled excellence and unrivalled acumen. But yes, in this
pursuit, never forget to live for today not tomorrow!
Once again, heart warm accolades to all for bringing out Megagene. Hope that its
turns out to be aide-mmoire of time worth living again.
Manzil mil hi jaegi
Bhatakte hue hi sahi
Gumraah to vo hain
Jo ghar se nikalte hi nahi

-Jatinder Kumar
Warden

Twinkle Twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are
Odd way to start an editorial, isnt ;) But yeah, these lines formed the substratum for voyage
of learning, never ending, and everlasting! From A for apple to apple of Newton, journey has
been full of fascination. Hands that once dissected the toys (Desi Dexters) are now competent
enough to build and rule the tomorrow. We hope that ad mist this quest for new zeniths, we
have time to listen to our heartbeats, build those sand castles again, wait for the princess
from the fairy land, laugh heartily on even petty things, cry loudly to doff off the rue, watch
the sunset with your best friends, enjoy maggi at 4 in morning, fight for last share of parathas
in canteen, hug the people who mean a lot and let them know how much you love, in
nutshell, relive your innocent naughty childhood, once again!

Mega-gene has never been just a magazine, its the dhak dhak of its inmates, striving to
capture the moments which are worth reliving. Of course life between these walls is
impossible to captivate between few inked pages but sure it promises to act as a souvenir for
all those who ever wish to connect back! No doubt it also proves to a platform for showcasing
literary talent for our budding writers. A long way yet to go

We heartily thank our warden sir, Mr Jatinder Kumar for his motivation, guidance and being
mainspring as well as personally part of our every endeavor. Mega-gene is just a fruit of his
vision, and we are highly indebted for the same!

Bon voyage to entire final year! Graffiti of memories with you will always be held high!
And to all my dear friends, thanks for making H6 FAMILY REDEFINED!

A Sarcastic Saturday
This Saturday went down with melting ice-creams and balls potted down in different holes. The plan was
made in the most planned way that could be possible on this earth. We were giving some good competition
to 5- year plans by the Indian government.
We were supposed to leave by 11 but everyone was sleeping as if some chloroform was inserted
directly into their nostrils. If Kumbhkaran might have been watching us from any corner of this great
universe, he must have been pleased dearly on seeing his great and kind-hearted followers. Still a plan was
made and it should be accomplished. I got a message from Akhil at 10am , I was feeling too sleepy even to
check my mobile but my room-mate was not. He said, We are leaving in 1 hour. Wake everyone else and
also tell them to make a program as where to go. I replied, Aye! Aye! Captain. Now it was Red-Alert.
We should move fast and swift. Lets beat the clock this time and I went back to sleep.
By 2:00 pm, At last we were all out on the street moving towards the college main-gate deciding
where to go. But the guard stopped us saying, No ID! You cant go. All except one had the IDs. So we
tried to negotiate but he was persistent. We were being treated as some refugees were trying to cross the
L.O.C without the legalized papers or the Bollywood Superstars are being treated at US airports. I think
everyone should become a minister at some point to time in his life. You can save hell lot of time of your
life surpassing queues and inspections. Soon we were allowed to pass the LOC.
We hired an auto-rickshaw to COOL road. We decided to have some food first. The food was
delicious but the quantity surprised all of us as if some food crises are going on in the country right now and
we were among the victims. We hostlers all across the country save so much food skipping so many
breakfasts sleeping, lunches and dinners partying around the town still India is facing high rate
of inflation and crises time after time, I dont understand where the hell all the stuff is going and we started
dumping food straight into our stomach as if we were just thrown out of a hunger strike or I should better
use the word Anshan. All praise to the demon Kumbhkaran. I know he will bless us some day.
The crux of the evening is yet to be achieved. We headed toward the Pool hall at Jyoti Chowk. We
rented one table and everybody picked up sticks as they are going to beat Dennis Orcollo (the guy who won
the WPA world Eight-ball championship 2011). Soon the rules of the game of two were altered to fit for a
fair game of five people. After all we are Indians, we are good at this. If a place of two can accommodate
five on a bike, room of three can accommodate six in a hostel, I believe it was quite fair we, five people,
were playing a game of two.
But these comprising agendas were draining off all the fun, so two of us countrified themselves to
another table. The game started with a feeble shot and that didnt result in a foul as who actually knows
them. The game with sixteen balls was actually named Eight-Ball; I always wonder how all this stuff
happens. Smell of the cigarettes soon started irritating the rest and we marched back to our hostel or I prefer
calling it as an Ant-colony, the only difference I feel that there is concrete and paint instead of the mud.

Sin of being a Mess Committee Member
'Oye tu mess committee me hai', gosh! I never understand whether its question or exclamation, still my
nodding paves up the way for setting up of Mock Parliament! Censorship doesnt allow me to quote the
arguments as such, but still on lighter note its just like 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the world'! Mess to jhaand hai,
IITs me ye milta hai and few more bla bla Just to state, a guy didnt like Verkas milk, so he suggested
to keep buffaloes in Hostels! It seems as if we have cooks recruited from Taj while entire other lots are fed
in refugee camps. No doubt, time period of getting chapattis is long enough to take some power naps in
between, diet rate are sky high, sometimes we can draw liquid solid equilibrium curve in daals and gravy,
rubber and paneer have same Young Modulus, but dear friends, we too eat the same. All we can do is
suggest mess menu, keep some check on quality, but do you expect us to cook the food for you? Or if
someone is that expert, join mess; at least some loads of PRs would decrease. I agree we are to represent you
but not just your problems but also to implement your feasible solutions (which unfortunately we dont get)
or atleast search for them together.

Former Wardens Message

Dear Residents of Hostel 6,
I bear a special feeling about this hostel. My association with the hostel
started few years back when I took over as warden. The hostel was new and
gave me ample opportunity to develop it. It is the joint effort of the residents
and the warden which can make the stay comfortable and meaningful. I am
keen to see further development of the hostel and wish all the residents of the
hostel shine in their respective field.
Dr. S. K. Sinha
Warden ( )
I always had a special bond with Hostel 6. My advice to dear students is that
hostel life is a media by which you can turn your independence into
congenial direction to achieve success. It is a golden period that will
determine your future step of action. Just learn to manage time and toil hard,
success will be all yours. I wish God to be your guiding light in all your
endeavors.
Dr. M. D. Roy
Warden ( )
Its indeed a matter of pride for me to be one of the first wardens of Hostel 6.
During those days there were very few students and hostel lacked modern
infrastructure. I was made warden by the then Director, Dr Mehta with an
objective to create facilities not existing in other hostels. I still remember we,
the team of 5 members went to Devi Talab for looking for contractors for
constructing NITJs first modern kitchen which later became model for other
hostels. Even today, H6 holds a special place in my heart and I hope it
touches new zeniths. I wish all its residents a bright future. May God bless
you all.
Dr. Anish Sachdeva

Power Pillars

Go Green, Go Veg!!!

Helping Animals also helps the Global Poor: Every year in the UK we feed our livestock enough
food to feed 250,000,000 people while in the world 30,000,000 people die of starvation.
Eating Meat Supports Cruelty to Animals: The green pastures and idyllic barnyard scenes of
years past are now distant memories. On today's factory farms, animals are crammed by the
thousands into filthy windowless sheds, wire cages, gestation crates, and other confinement systems.
These animals will never raise families, root in the soil, build nests, or do anything else that is
natural and important to them.
Eating Meat Is Bad for the Environment: Eating meat causes almost 40 percent more
greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, and planes in the world combined.
If You Wouldn't Eat a Dog, You Shouldn't Eat a Chicken: Several recent studies have shown
that chickens are bright animals who are able to solve complex problems, demonstrate self-control,
and worry about the future.
Vegetarian food contain more water: If a man does not get food he can survive for 60 days but
without water he can live for a maximum 7 hours or more depending on the capacity of the person.
The body requires water for the circulation of the blood and digestion process. The food, which we
consume, contains maximum 60 per cent of water but fruits and vegetable contain 95 per cent of
water. This makes them easily digestible and nutritious. A pear contains 89.4 per cent water and
cabbage and carrot contain 91.5 and 88.2 per cent water respectively. Similarly spinach and the
green leafy vegetables and tomato contain 92.3 and 94.3 per cent water. Therefore vegetables are
more beneficial and healthy when compared to non-vegetarian food. The body weight can increase
with the consumption of meat and heavy food but those who want to remain healthy; disease free
with good skin quality should consume water in sufficient amount. This can be obtained only from
vegetarian food.
Vegetarian food - complete food: The toned milk also contains 38 per cent of high protein. There
is no nutritional element, which is present in meat and eggs and not available in milk. This is
beneficial for the heart patients as well because it reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood; it is
the antidote to several poisons.
Fiber rich food: The vegetarian food is rich in fiber whereas the non-vegetarian food is deficient in
this element. These fibers are helpful in providing minerals and vitamins to the body. These avoid
constipation and related diseases like piles, hernia, appendicitis, hepatitis, divertica, and varicose
veins. These fibers are important because they protect us from stones and heart diseases by mutual
action of cholesterol and bilirubin.
The vegetarian food is low in cholesterol: The meat and meat products contain very high levels of
cholesterol. They deposit inside the arteries and block the way this obstructs the free flow of blood
to the hart and hence heart problem is more among the non-vegetarians.
Oiliness: The oiliness present in the vegetarian food is thin in quality, this is known as linolic acid,
this is very important for the body and its deficiency causes paleness in the body. The body looses
the capacity to fight out diseases.
Vitamin B-12: According to the specialists, half liter of milk provides the required quantity of this
vitamin. The best sources of B-12 are curds, Idli, Dosa, Dokhla, and Jalebi etc.
The best source of vitamins is vegetarian food: Sprouted grains and cereals are rich in vitamin B.
the amount of vitamin C increases ten times. Gandhiji's opinion: The religion does not allow us to
eat eggs and meat, "looking at the climate of our nation we should stop the consumption of eggs,
meat and alcohol.

Life of :(
My heart weeps for the days bygone,
Now moments are dreary and life woebegone,
Your words are now echo of my heart,
Bewailing my destiny, they are lacerated apart.
(Zindagi ki bhi kya rut hai
Kal sath tha to pyar nai, aaj pyar hai par tera sath
nai)
As your lips waved the final adieu,
Our story was raze by fate bestrew,
I wished I could have kiss them again,
But tears dropped from eyes, all in vain.
(Shayad nahi pahuchi tere dar par, mere pyar ki
gavahii
Pal bhar ka pyar diya, phir umar bhar ki judaii)
Flashes before my eyes your white face,
On which I could feel my loves glaze,
That smile which I could never resist,
For hours I would stare as time desist.
(Koi to bata haal mere pyar ka
Sab kuch le le, bus baksh de didaar mere yaar
ka)
In our dreams all remains is darkest pang,
World is deaf, unheard is our harangue,
Am fed up of the fake smile that I wear all the day,
It hurts when one knows he was just a play.
(kabhi raat me aa kar in aashuoo ko dekh zaara,
tere pyaar ka pyaasa hai har ek katra)

People say that in loves resides the Lord,
But probably for me my love was my God,
Our paths may not ever meet,
But I have learnt to live with those memories
sweet.

(Saato jahaan ka khusiyaan ho jhooli me teri
muskuraati rehe tu, yahi fariyaad hai meri)

My Dreams with You
Minutes turning into hours, an hour seems a day;
Just because you left me and gone away.
My heart is crying and my eyes are wet;
As they cant accept what life has set.
Your memories are making me wild and mad;
Cant stop thinking of the special times we had.
Its you whom I see every time I blink;
Coz you are the one of whom I always think.
I want to sleep in your lap; I wish to feel your
touch;
I want to be with you always coz I love you so
much.
I want to be with you the whole night long;
And then just for you, wanna sing a love song.
I want you to be the one whom I must care;
And myself the one with whom you must share.
I want to call you and have a long talk;
That I wish you to be with me in lifes walk.
And I want these dreams to become true;
So that again I can be with you...

Cant Forget
To forget her is an impossible task;
Coz every girl seems to be wearing her mask.
The sun for once can forget to rise;
But I cant forget those beautiful eyes.
A priest can forget his daily prayer;
But I cant forget her silky hairs.
The river for once can forget to flow;
But I cant forget that faces glow.
The clouds for once can forget to rain;
But I cant forget the voice as sweet as cane.
The trees can forget to shed their leaves;
But I cant forget my hearts thief.
The pond can forget to evolve ripples;
But I cant forget those cute dimples.
To forget her and the bitter past;
Is impossible as it will forever last...

God Knows the Best
Sometimes, God breaks our spirit to save our soul.
Sometimes, He breaks our hearts to make us
whole.
Sometimes, He sends us pain so we can be
stronger.
Sometimes, He sends us failure so we can be
humble.
Sometimes, He sends us illness so we can take
better care of ourselves.
Sometimes, He takes everything away from us so
we can learn the value of everything we have.
-Vikas Nagar

Midnight Wood
Dark in the wood the shadows stir;
What do you see?
Mist and mood, star and cloud
Hunchback shapes that creep and crowd
From tree to tree.
Dark in the wood a thin wind calls;
What do you hear?
Frond and form and clutching grass
Snigger at you as you pass,
Whispering fear.
Dark in the wood a river flows;
What does it hide?
Otter, water rat, old can
Bones of fish and bones of man
Drift in its tide
Dark in the wood the owlets shriek;
What do the cry?
Choose between the wood and river,
Who comes here is lost forever,
And must die!
-Jitendra Chaudhary

The Night Sky
It has witnessed the nonpareil retro age
It has seen many revolts dark rage
It has beholder Hiroshima refurbish
It has given eyes to the age of renaissance
The age when pioneers of new thoughts of science
Galileo, Kepler, Newton and Copernicus
Worked hard to make our lives luxurious
Architecture saw the revival of classical style
And fine arts were enhanced and travelled miles
With Giorgione, Bellini, Michelangelo and
Raphael
When Martin Luthers work affected religion
They all were glorious future masons
It is enticing for a lover
It is a poets inspiration and fervor
It is a childs cart to store dreams
It provides splendiferous spiritualism to horizons
seam
It shelters boundless stars
But still exists in solitary and that is innately lit
As every star leaves it in a lickety-split
It has unabated stillness
Notwithstanding its of no statical significance
Every day with the night fall comes the same
Murky munificent night sky
Which comes and goes like
The facile demands of a well off child.
-Deepak Jaryal

Kya Baat
Kitabo k panno ko palat k sochta hu,
Yu palat jae meri zndg toh kya baat hai.
Khwabo me roz milti hai jo,
Haqiqat me aae toh kya baat hai.
Kuch log matlab k liye dhundte hai mujhko,
Bin matlab jo aae toh kya baat hai.
Katl kar k to sab le jaenge dil mera,
Koi baato se diwana bana jae toh kya baat hai
Apne rehne tak toh khushiya dunga sabko
Jo meri maut se khushi mil jae kisi ko toh...
-Prem Kumawat

My friend
To the ends of time I will love you my friend
Knowing that you're gone leaves me abed
An angle to me you were so kind
Raising my sprits with ways I cant find
Over and over the days with you replayed
Loving you so much wished u would have stayed
I crossed a line which I know not fit
Now each day I die a little bit
An empty void replaces what I feel
Growing sadder and sadder, will I ever heal
From the feeling of love I felt for a friend.

GIRLS and their STUPID QUESTION
01. At the movies: When you meet your classmate
Girl: Hey, what are you doing here?
Answer: Well,it's so hot, there were no cool cabs, so I thought I'd watch some advertisements in the cool
comfort of the theatre.
02. In the bus: A fat girl wearing pointed high-heeled shoes steps on your feet
Girl:Sorry, did that hurt ?
Answer: No, not at all, I'm on local anesthesia... why don't you try again or should I try this time.
03. At a funeral: One of the teary-eyed girl ask.
Girl: Why, why him, of all people.
Answer: Why? Would it rather have been you?
04. At a restaurant: When girl ask the waiter.
Girl: Is the "blah, blah, blah" dish good
Answer: No, it's terrible and made of adulterated cement. We occasionally also spit in it.
05. At a family get-together. When some distant aunt meets you after years
Aunt: Munna, Chickoo, you've become so big.
Answer: Well you haven't shrunk.
06. When a friend announces his wedding, and girl asks
Girl: Is the girl you're marrying good?
Answer: No, she's a miserable insensitive lout... it's just the money.
07. When she wakes you up at midnight by a phone call.
Girl: Sorry. Were you sleeping?
Answer: No. I was playing cricket for India at Sharjahan and just when you called, Salim Malik was betting
with me that Pakistan would win. What do you think?
08. When a girl sees a friend/colleague with evidently shorter hair.
