Philosophy of teacher

I do believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a secure and stimulating
atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. It is
my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing
an environment which invites the sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are
conducive to establishing such an environment: the teacher acting as a guide, allowing the
students natural curiosity to direct his or her learning and promoting respect for all things and all
people.
When the teachers role is to guide, providing access to information rather than acting as the
primary source of information, the students search for knowledge as they learn to find answers
to their questions. For students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover
for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Providing students with the access
to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time and space to use materials that reinforce
the lesson being studied creates an opportunity for individual discovery and construction of
knowledge to occur.
One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I share my own
passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong and dedicated
individuals who are excited about working with students. In this ever changing society it is
important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to work with someone who is
aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to be
the best educator that I can be.

Lisa Forbes Arnold Philosophy of Education

My theory of teaching aligns with the Constructivist orientation. I believe that through the active
process of knowledge construction, effective learning environments will engage learners in
representing the world around them. As such, divergent and reflective thinking among students
must be encouraged to help learners examine identities, clarify values, analyze education and
internalize learning. Of central importance, I see education as more than mere curriculum and
strategies. It holds in it the value of culture-shaping through interactions.

My primary objective is to provide an environment which fosters learning, cultivates personal
growth and challenges students to think critically in Technology in Education. Because reading,
writing and public speaking are important in every context, they will be stressed in all my
classes.

Another element I believe that is conducive to establishing such an environment is promoting
respect for self, others and the environment through an open sharing setting. Teaching is a
lifelong learning process and it is important for me to reinforce knowledge so that students can
apply what they learn to others areas of their lives. Ill also make myself accessible outside of the
classroom to all students who wish to further enhance their understanding of specific issues. The
internet is an invaluable resource and computer skills are becoming a requisite for all
professionals. The use of these will be encouraged through given assignments
