elcome to 2014 2015! As we
begin the new fiscal year, we al-
ready have new things to cele-
brate, including a new National First Anti-
Basileus from our region, a new Amicae Auxil-
iary, new State appointees, new State Bylaws
and new National Constitution and Bylaws.
During my 5th year as your State Director, we
will focus on our undergraduates and Elder
Care. I, along with the State Undergraduate
Coordinators, will work diligently to ensure the
viability of our undergraduate chapters. I
also look forward to working with the State
Elder Care Coordinator to implement Grand

Please join me in thanking Soror Deseree
McFarlane who, with this issue of our monthly
newsletter, has completed her term as our
newsletter editor and social media coordina-
tor. Soror McFarlane, thank you for your
steadfastness and ensuring that NJ had a
newsletter on a monthly basis! I welcome Soror
Kiana Lawhorn as the new editor and coordi-

the open State positions. (See page 4)
I enjoyed seeing you at Boule and wish
you safe travels to all of you attending Zeta

tification session on September 6. As you
gear up for the year, take the enclosed Elder
Care quiz and review pertinent information
taken from our National Web Site and the
Elder Care Toolkit. Please also remember to
take note of key dates on page 14, including
the upcoming Regional Executive Board Meet-

I
hope everyone had and awesome summer and are excited to get back to doing the work of ZETA! To begin the new
year, we will review the steps to making a motion. A motion is a formal proposal by a member, in a meeting, that the
group take certain action.* A main motion is one whose introduction brings business before an assembly. Strictly speak-
ing, there should be no debate on a matter before a motion regarding it has been made. Only one main motion may
be before the assembly for action at a time. ** Below are the steps in appropriately making a motion.

EIGHT STEPS TO A MOTION
1. Member addresses the chair
2. Assigning the floor- chair recognizes the member and gives her the right to speak
3. Member makes the motion- I move that
4. Another member seconds the motion (does not have to agree with the motion)
5. Chair states the motion (body cannot debate the motion until it is restated by the chair)
6. Debating the question-Maker has the right to speak first in debate. Maker cannot speak against the motion.
